Hello! I just got this machine today. Thank you so much for making your playlist!! I bought my machine to sew my paper clusters for my junk journals or my handmade cards. Your videos are great!! Thank you again! :)
Hi Mom. Thanks for the video, i always learn something new from you. I purchase this machine from watching your videos from a while back. Brother owns you a commission lol 😁😁😁💖 Also love the cute apron.
Hi Mom, Thanks for your video. Its very helpful. I've never done any sewing so I'm new at this. Just bought a Brother sewing machine from Wal-Mart model 3817A. Trying to get set up to do minor sewing repairs. Your instructions are very helpful but I have one question. Does the bobbin thread go under the cloth when your sewing? I know the needle thread would stay on top of what you are sewing. The reason I ask is I'm trying to sew up some old pillow cases where the seams have come apart. There's a lot of cloth there and the bobbin thread gets under the cloth. Please advise! Thanks!
Well, it might, but it probably wouldn't be fun to do a lot of it. Have a look at this ua-cam.com/video/ygwpkCCAL8A/v-deo.html And think about this machine ua-cam.com/video/6ZLDJd248v4/v-deo.html
Hi. I’m completely new to sewing. I just bought this machine to use with paper crafting. My stitches come out like they are supposed to look on the bottom but not on the top. I assume it has something to do with tension. I have adjusted it but nothing works. And my needle keeps unthreading. Any ides how I can fix this? I hope that makes sense. Thank you!
Yes, it must be tension. With the presser foot up, pull on the thread coming out of the needle. Is it hard to pull? There should be no tension on the thread when the presser foot is raised. If it's tight, the thread is hung up somewhere or not gong through all the guides correctly. Check this for threading ua-cam.com/video/0GZ9KDDkB-I/v-deo.html
Hi , Can you do a video showing how to sew box pleats. ie: A box pleat ruffle to trim the bottom of a lampshade. Can you sew a box pleat without a box pleat presser foot ( how...what settings...what tension...etc. ) on the Brother LX3817 ? ty.
@@momdoesstuff ok. I saw another woman put a ' Ruffler Mechanism Foot " on her LX3817 ( with not an in depth explanation of it's features ). Would you explain how to use that attachment on the LX3817 , which model Ruffler you like, ....is it worth the investment, the differences and what applications you can get out of a Ruffler Foot Attachment.
@@momdoesstuff Since my first comment I watched a video on Box Pleats and have a better grasp on how to make them. However, I don't understand how to choose from all of the tensions on the dial. I am talking about both box pleats and Ruffler Foot mechanisms on this thread. 🪡
I have a machine like that and have worked great. I want to try sewing with elastic thread for a shirred dress but I'm not sure if this sewing machine can do that. Can you guide me here please?
I have not tried that in this machine, but I have been wanting to also! As soon as I can get some elastic thread I’ll try it and make a video. Thanks for watching!

You are so welcome! This is one little shortcut tip I use all the time!
That gathering technique is an excellent idea
Lol it was definitely a game changer for me when I learned it!
Thank you, but I have a brother machine & my zig zag stitches just stopped working, what's wrong?
You are an amazing teacher thank you
Thank you!!!
Such a creative trick. I still haven't used my machine. Hoping to today.
Hopefully you've had time to play a little bit :)
Very nice -- Thank you for sharing!

Congrats on the new machine! Yes, the bobbin thread goes on the bottom, upper thread on top. They lock in the middle
Thanks! (Wow quick response)
Im looking to get a machine to upcycle - does this handle multiple layers of regular denim?
Well, it might, but it probably wouldn't be fun to do a lot of it. Have a look at this ua-cam.com/video/ygwpkCCAL8A/v-deo.html

@@momdoesstuff OH THANK YOU!!!🤩
do you use different presser foot for zig zag stitch?
No, you can just use the general purpose foot
Hi, thanks for posting! Does this machine do any stitches appropriate for stretch fabric, like t-shirts? Thank you!
You can do knits with the zigzag
@@momdoesstuff wonderful. Thank you!!

Thank you so much for responding! I had my thread threaded incorrectly and my bobbin wasn’t in the right way. It is working perfectly now. Happy 4th!
Zigzag stitch on my machine .. same kind as your… not working.. help!!
Oh no😢Is it just not going from side to side? Or does it not sew at all?
Can you make a apron with your brother sewing machine please

Thank you mom Your video is very helpful . Can I use zigzag like an overlocker ?
Sure you can! I do it on a lot of my heirloom sewing. It won’t cut the edge like a server will, but it will finish the edge nicely

What can you do for skipped zigzag stitches?
Thank You so much.

How to go back to straight stitches?
Just turn the stitch selector back to straight
