"No, I really like mine" - Ron's delivery on that line reverberates big playground-diplomacy vibes 🤣
*checks notes* yep, Ron is still my spirit animal.
🥰
Some folks are just built like cyclists. Ron seems to be built like an actual bicycle! Amazing!😂
Always bring the Ron. His description of his sandwich is worth the view.
Now put the rigid fork off the salsa onto the Ibis, call it a "squishtail" and start a new MTB movement... 🤔
you're doing a pretty amazing job editing these.
The biggest takeaway: a casserole sandwich is not good for long rides while a fancy vegetarian wrap on the other hand is good. Thank you Dustin (and Ron), for the invaluable cycling advice.
How did I stumble upon you're channel? It's good stuff, I'm not much of a cyclist, but my son is, his last adventure ride with his team, time: 4 hours, distance: 34 miles, elevation: 2,973 ft, not to mention he rocked out 5 of 5 races with his mountain bike race team this year! My son is 15 years old! Can't wait for next season!
You and your son sound amazing! 🎉
I get so many ideas for riding food from your channel Dustin. Thank you! But no thanks on the cassasandwhich.
Having never been in the same room as Ron, I imagine he's seventeen feet tall. I listened to your podcast with him (bad audio and all) on a ride and was even more charmed by the guy. As if that's possible.
The ride is always fun with Ron.
Syncline! I just did that ride TODAY! The foliage colors are amazing right now (this video must be a few weeks old)!! Yes, this is in the Columbia River Gorge, near the town of White Salmon on the Washington side. Coyote Wall is a sick ass line that at times gets 4 feet away from a cliff. Dustin, did you send Little Mohab? That, on drop bars, would have been fun to watch ;) I foresee a hardtail in your near future, which is awesome. My Ron is a Gene btw ;)
That stat drop at the end with the different personas did it for me.
I know that this is about the Salsa Cutthroat but, man, I love your glasses!
Enjoy your vids! Epic ride
Wasn't the Ritchy Bike contest ending today? or maybe on wrong?
That shug reference blew my mind 😮
Vistas GALORE! Good looking snake. Hackeysack. Experimental bike stylings. Groovy soundtrack. All the trappings of a proper EBD vid! Maybe the Salsa goes rigid again?! Like you, I'm undecided. Carry on.
Absolutely glorious riding in and out of the trees and crossing farm gates. I'm assuming that's the Columbia River Gorge
you called it! this ride is actually in WA
Some experimental bike tinkering, fat rubber meats, vicarious adventure shredding + plus Ron and Dustin strike back... these are all my favorite ingredients, what's not to love about this dish?
Well balanced diet!
Ron is a legend!
For wide bars try the Ritchey WCS Beacon XL, they are a big bad 520 wide, they would help ya.
You gotta get the Curve Walmer Bars. 60 at the hoods and 75 at the drops.
Love the Spinal Tap and Hans and Franz from Ron!
Oh, and love the food reports!
I used to ride gravel bikes. A few years ago, i converted to mtbs Their definitely better when the going gets a bit rougher. I run 630mm wide handle bars which saves the shoulders, rockshox sid, carbon seatpost and pressure relief saddle.
Ron's bike game is on point.
Loving the Dustin/Ron videos. What tremendous views! So envious.
my Cutthtroat is a Ritchey Ultra, rigid carbon fork and Enve gravel bars.... love it
Another vote for some big old Curve Walmers. Game changers
Needs a dropper post, all bikes need a dropper post. Also, my Ron is a Kyle.
Oh, great idea. The grandkids need dropper posts on their Strider bikes. Sounds silly, but really would be great.
I'm in the middle of my own dropbar hardtail build! Thanks for giving me a taste of what to expect!
Super fun looking ride as always!
I like the colour of Ron’s car. It’s a shade I’d like to respray my rigid ‘94 Kona Cindercone in. 👍🏻
So rad!
Most roadies would still prefer a rigid fork over suspension fork. Since a suspension fork just adds extra weight on a bike. If there was any marginal gains benefit. Cyclocross and Paris-Roubaix would have adopted it. But for recreational gravel cyclist. A suspension fork do provide a level of comfort when riding off-road. If you aren't racing, comfort is more imporant than weight.
This 👍 I'm tempted to try a suspension fork on my cutthroat but I'm afraid I would remove it after a few rides cause the bike is awesome as it is already....
If you spin your crank backwards while saying his name 3 times, Dan appears.
If you complain about me talking, you need to ask nicely when you ask me to grab the fork.😉
Nice video and I like how you put a new suspension fork on the Cutthroat. My husband has been thinking about doing the same to his Journeyer. Only thing that is stopping is the loss of the mounts on the Waxing fork.
Another GREAT video!
I have a V2 Cutty amd love it. The simplicity and capability of the rigid is a drug. I can't boing mine.
Completely agree with you!
@@EverythingsBeenDone Player!
Uhhh, that scenery and route was rideliscious!
And stay rigid like a corpse. Only go squishy for hacky sack and burritos!
Great fun gents! Who makes Rons beautiful mustard yellow LS jersey . Never been one for aesthetics, but i do love beautiful things! Thanks
Riding Salsa Fargo, rigid 29 drop bar-carbon fork. Much better bike than the Canondale M3 rigid I rode in the "90s. A little under biking is good for you.
Everyone needs a Freaking Magical Mechanic like Tom. Damn!!!!
Sus fork is high on my todo list. Trashed my rear hub so replacing that is taking my side funds for now. If you want to mess around on the SE side of WA there are some good routes for dropbarmtb from easy to medium/advanced but I bet you could have fun on any of them.
@dustinklein I am currently putting together the same bike. I just got the fork, now time to wait for the bike hahah
You are going to be so stoked! I would have gone with the widdest bars I could find had I known.
@@EverythingsBeenDone I cannot wait! I will be running some Salsa bars at 52cm at the hoods. Been running them on the cross bike and just love them.
Excellent video, I love this bike. For you, which is better, the Salsa cutthroat 2024 or the Santa Cruz Stigmata 2024?
Dk & Ron + 🚵🏻♂️🚵🏻♂️ will always be a great watch 👍🏻👍🏻
My man!!
You definitely should check some downcountry bikes. Full sus, capable but still light enough for long epic rides
The Tyndell special! 😎
If you are going to get a wider bar, make sure you compensate with a shorter stem. may be even a shorter on with higher rise...
I like the squish, but the rigid fork looks better. It's a real Sophie's choice.
Hi , i gotta ask , what are those lovely Oakley sunglasses you are wearing? What a great video!
Just when I thought Ron couldn't get any more awesome, he presents a snackwrap containing Jarlsberg swiss cheese. Total hero!
This is a cool experiment. I’m doing a similar thing, but it’s from trail hardtail to gnarly rigid 29er.
Love it!
If you’re looking for that WIIDE bar, PNW has that 56cm Coast bar. I’m running the narrower one at 48cm
I heard the word "Capable." I'm warnin you D, keep using that word and before you know it your gonna be riding a carbon hardtail fat bike with flat bars and aeros and a DIY repaired ebay Lauf Carbonara (despite the forks' engineer's recommendation not to repair it) converted to 29er Plus with 3.0 Knards on Framed fatty-slims (19 ID) and a 10 speed 11-36 rear cassette combined with a "flavor of the day" 22-24-26-28 front ring choice. Aloha from MN. Ron looks super Rapha in his Rapha shorts btw. Snootchie Bootchies!!
Great video, but I like all your content, thanks for what you do! I am down to one bike now, my cross bike (Ritchey steel break-away, w/cantis) but my favorite riding is New England singletrack. Something like this could work for me that kind of riding and then my cross bike can be for less tech gravel and maybe get back to racing cross again and for air travel.
Ace vid, not sure I’d fancy the forks, but hey I’ve never tried!✌️👌❤️🏁
Im still on the fence. It's all in the name of experimentation
What's the difference between this with the squish and your Bombtrack Hook when you made it squishy?
The fork! this is a proper 100mm fork the bombtrack has a 40mm fox ax and I did not like the fox fork.
For a hardtail, what about a Breadwinner Goodwater? A local custom bike - it would make an awesome video series.
Sounds fun
That old washed out double track! Shit like that everywhere in Idaho. No flats for the wicked!
"No flats for the wicked" I like that!
nice move Ron
He did it ... the madman did it.
I have a 2021 Cutthroat and I sure do think the ability to run suspension is cool, but it seems like the result is a little bit "meh"
I wonder if this would be a candidate for that much-maligned new Rockshox Rudy?
I really want to do something like this with my bike. I love drop bars but I need the mountain bike for the trails
The Snake was the best! Not too cold for reptiles?
Those who follow the Instagram know why that bike shop clip was hilarious
Love that you mentioned this!
I would take the Ripley with some fast tires.
Thumbnail got me
Hyped!
Hey Dustin! Thanks for this video i keep going back to it. I love my Cutthroat rigid but have an opportunity to try it with a sus fork.
Are you still running yours with suspension?
When you say you recommend wide bars...what do you mean?
For ref im 6'4" with 46cm wide drop bars
Player‼️ looked like a dope ride.
Hey Dustin. Not sure what size frame you have or the width of the handlebars but I went with a wider bar on my 2019 cutthroat and it transformed the ride. Overly twitchy to totally smoothed out. Give it a shot. Oh and I also put a bouncy fork on mine as well. I love it.
I agree immediately replaced the stock one with a venturemax XL, night and day
This is exactly what I am thinking this thing needs. Thanks for the nudge players!!
Living the dream, 2 of my buddies love there cutties
Hey Dustin, what's the name of the orange top/jersey you were wearing? looks nice and cosy
Can’t go too far wrong with Eno or Lanois production, eh Ron?
That fork fits the nature of the Cutthroat, plow away! I'd keep her right there player.
Maybe I'm showing my age, but maybe not mention Cass + Sandwich;-p! Curious at your fork decision, why not go with something really svelte like the Rudy XPLR?
That’s what we call the frugal gourmet as Ube or Taro
Custom paint that fork to match the red on your bike.
loving every video!
Put some Ritchy WCS Venturemax 52cm bars on it!
HI Dustin, does your CUTTHROAT BB creek? i want one but i'm afraid that pressfit will drive me nuts.
So far so good.
Nothing I don’t like about that bike.
Hey Dustin! What every happened to the bombtrack? You still riding that one? Any new upgrades to it?
idk about that bike but damn, those trails 😳
Hey Dustin! Any more thoughts about adding front suspension to the Cutty? I've been contemplating it for months and still haven't pulled the trigger. Do you still prefer this bike rigid?
Alan I wish you had been on a recent EBD live with us. I talked about this very subject.
I think it’s fun with the suspension. Not necessary though.
It’s a trade off for control in the descents vs weight.
If you do go with the fork I suggest wider bars.
@@EverythingsBeenDone wide flats or wide drops tho?
@@BRAINpl drops for sure! The Cutthroat is way to short to run flat bars.
Does the fork sap your energy on the climbs?
My body is ready
Don’t see the Ride with GPS route. Can we get that?
good call, updated in description and just for you here: bit.ly/Elk_Mountain_Route
i would think a true MTB fork with out front drop bars is just gonna make your hands get fishing pole effect from suspension.
Give us Ron’s recipes for Sweet Potatoes.
Put a dropper post on it.
💯
Like the Salsa, some who have children later in life say it’s worth the wait penalty.
This is an ammmmmmmazing thumbnail lol
You just made my day!
Hey Dustin whats the last songs name?
one thing left to do.....sell it to Coco in Canada !!
LOL!
Can we have a list of the amazing music you play in tbe background? Cheers FROM Amsterdam
Link in description
How long does it take to put a fork on? Well, spin around for a cool UA-cam insta-edit and every bike is different on the rack and the bike shop guy is wearing totally different clothes. So like 3 weeks?
Did it make any difference in height from rigid to suspension?
yeah it made it taller. manageable but noticable
In my opinion, the Cutthroat is perfect as a rigid 29er. Get rid of the suspension fork!
Great Music. Tell me please the name of the Band or Singer 🤘🤘👍
Is it just me or does Ron always sound like Ernie from Sesame Street?
READY
Can someone help me find the second track?
What took you so long!
