I wish that I could press the Like button each time I’ve listened, as it is so many. One of my favorite classical pieces of all time, arranged and performed so beautifully. This sounds like angels’ song to my welcoming ears. ❤

Neben der Einzelleistung aller Spieler oder besser gesagt Spielerinnen ist für mich, die ich selbst schon ein (nur sehr kleines)Blockflötenensemble geleitet habe, der saubere Gesamtklang/homogene Sound ein wahres Wunder. Großes Kompliment auch für das einwandfreie Zusammenspiel, das einen erstklassigen Klangkörper ergibt!

I've always wanted to be part of a recorder orchestra. They always sound so good in orchestral groups.
me too and i hate how people always say that recorder is only for small kids or something like my kid is going to play only for year, because the next one, he will start playing saxophone or something. JUST WHY. but nevermind. This orchestra is giving me that motivation to tell more people about this gorgeous instrument😻
If you get the chance to join one, I can only recommend it! I've played in four different recorder ensembles/orchestras so far, and absolutely love it! It provides a new kind of challenge, and the community (and friendships) that come with it, are totally worth joining imo

Wunderschön. Moechte fragen wie die ganz grossen Blockfloeten heissen, die im Stehen gespielt werden. Vielen Dank. Ich spiele seit Kinderzeiten und wir waren damals einer der ersten Musikschulen nach dem Krieg, ins Leben gerufen von einem Soldaten der in unserer Stadt geblieben ist. Vielen Dank! Die großen Flöten sind Subbässe in F, Subgroßbass in C und Subkontrabass in F in viereckiger Bauweise von Paetzold by Kunath.
Wunderschön! Neben dem tollen Klang finde ich sehr schön, dass das Ochester altersmäßig gut gemischt ist und so jede (r) seinen Platz hat. Gratulation!

Tampoco hay escuelas de flauta dulce. En Chile no se vende la flauta dulce contrabajo o subcontrabajo [la gigante] ni tampoco está a la venta en ninguna tienda aquella contralto que tiene un 'pie en Mi'. Igual entiendo este fenómeno por que ésta, no tiene una línea histórica en mi país o América latina, aunque he sabido que en Mexico, me parece, hay una agrupación o algo más serio, de hecho hay un flautista mexicano virtuoso, muy bueno en este instrumento. En Chile sólo hallas hasta la flauta dulce bajo. Yo tengo 2: una soprano de plástico marca Honner afinada en Do [semi profesional o de estudio] y una Yamaha tenor de plástico de excelente calidad afinada en Si, ésta sí es profesional, de concierto.
Los felicito de verdad, yo soy flautista pero no soy virtuoso.

wow at the start i wondered how the recorder could replace the organ .it is much more solemn in places and then seems happier before it becomes more funerial loved it
Yes. I think this is, because the organ has no living breath and articulation as has the recorder who can shape the sound in every direction.

I learned to play the Recorder when I was 10 years of age. Over the years, I have collected a Consort of Recorders and have played much music on them. I am now 76 years of age and they are still my favourite instrument. It is such a shame that so few people like to play Recorders, once they have finished school. They are easy to carry around and there is an instrument for all occasions - from a Sopranino, to a Bass - if you want a simple accompaniment to a singer or melody. Russ. UK

Diese Rendition von Albinonis Adagio ist wunderschön. Dennoch möchte ich dir lieber Simon und dem ganzen Ensemble ein paar Ratschläge mitgeben: Lasst euch mehr Zeit für Ausdruck, nehmt vielleicht das Tempo ein wenig zurück, formt die erste Stimme mit mehr Hingabe an die Sehnsucht...alles in diesem Stück spiegelt eine unerfüllte Sehnsucht wieder...genau das macht dieses Musikstück so unwiederstehlich faszinierend...und habt den Mut die Tragik dahinter hörbar zu machen, nämlich genau davon lebt diese geniale Komposition. Geht etwas tiefer und klarer in die Dynamik. Auch wenn die dynamische Bandbreite eures Blockflötenorchesters vielleicht begrenzter ist, als die eines herkömmlichen Orchesters, möchte ich doch ermutigen die unnachahmliche Wellenbewegung der Komposition zu verstärken...ich weiß mit Sicherheit, dass ihr das könnt.
Übrigens die Pizzikato-Stellen sind ein schlagender Beweis dafür, wie ausdrucksstark ihr sein könnt und seid!!!! Gratuliere euch allen von Herzen für diese Rendition und hoffe noch so manches von euch zu hören. In Hochachtung und Liebe Siddhartha Nama'Es'Tranus

When she pulls her leg up to the instrument, what does that do exactly?
It stops the end of the recorder, which changes the pitch of the note she would otherwise be playing. It is often used to obtain a high F sharp, which is a very difficult note on an alto recorder unless a special 'bell-key' has been fitted.
...not to mention high A, etc. The actual effect of partially stopping the bell is to lower the tone a half note (e.g. from G to f sharp).

The sense of enesmble and tuning of all players is superb. This is the most difficult thing with recorder groups.....achieving a beutiful overall tone. Any practical suggestions how you achieve this? Having all players having the same standard of instrument?

Weird thing about this piece - it's not actually by Albinoni. It was written by Albinoni scholar Remo Giazotto (as stated in the video description), apparently based on a short fragment of an Albinoni trio sonata (the manuscript fragment may or may not actually exist). And tbh it doesn't sound particularly Baroque to me, although it is a beautiful twentieth century piece.

What is the instrument that looks like a wooden box?
These are Paetzold (Kunath) bass recorders in various sizes. They are constructed from very high quality plywood and played entirely with wooden keys; there are no open holes covered by the fingers. They have recently become available in synthetic materials too, though the keywork is still wood, I believe. The sizes available are the standard F and C basses, then bigger versions sounding an octave lower: contrabasses in F and C. Even bigger ones, an octave below these two, are now finding their way into recorder orchestras - you can see examples here. Their advantage is that their bore can be folded back on itself, and the wooden keys make what would be an almost impossible stretch for the fingers relatively simple.
