Zuko was born with a deformity in two of his legs and was abandoned in a desert town. Katie McKittrick and Idan Riek headed out and brought him back to Los Angeles. Working with the medical team at CARES and with Chad Marquis, a Prosthetist/Orthotist, we provided him with a custom device that will protect his knees and joints from injury over time. Sometimes, amputation is the only option, like in the case of this Pit Bull by the freeway: • Can you see the pain i... , but we always do whatever would yield the best results for a healthy and happy life.
Zuko found a home thanks to our friends at The Little Red Dog, and it is so cool to see him walking around on all four legs. 🥰👍

What a sweet baby! So trusting, right from the start. And now he is walking - even trotting! - and he has the "pittie smile"! Thank you HFP for rescuing Zuko, & thank you Chad Marquis for designing & fabricating the perfect prosthetic, & thank you Little Red Dog for finding him a loving forever home!

My sister used to work in a veterinary hospital. People would bring in their pet to be euthanized for the stupidest reasons. Some actual cases she experienced; a woman wanted one of her dogs euthanized because all her dogs had fleas and she blamed the one dog; one lady wanted her dog euthanized because it's coat was matted; people will want an older (still healthy) dog euthanized so they can get a puppy and on and on. Whenever possible the vets would ask the owner to surrender the dog and they'd find them a new home. I wish these types of people would stop getting pets. They treat them like they're disposable and not living creatures who have feelings. And what's really sad is these animals love their owners and are loyal to them, and in return they get betrayed.
@@trinitylane2202 All my dogs have stayed with me until they died. The first one from old age..she went downhill gradually and finally refused to eat, drink, or try to stand up. The vet said nothing could be done for her. The second one got an incurable autoimmune disease. The third one was 16 and had a stroke that paralyzed her back legs. The vet said nothing could be done. I think I did the right thing for all 3, but it's hard to make the decision to euthanize, even in those circumstances.
My current dog is 7 1/2 and healthy. He stays with me until 1 of us dies or I'm so disabled that I can't care for him.

I trust you with my monthly donations & urge all reading this to consider donating if you don’t already. Everybody’s ’little bit’ is a collective BIG AMOUNT so needed for animals in need. I’d also like to address his original owners. We don’t know their situation or why he was left behind. I’m sure it absolutely needed to be done for he’s been taken care of.
