  • In this Helldivers 2 guide you will see how and why the Quasar Cannon is still the go to support weapon in Helldivers 2 and a complete build guide surrounding it to give you the best chance to spread that much needed democracy!
    Helldivers 2 is a 3rd person squad-based shooter that sees the elite forces of the Helldivers battling to win an intergalactic struggle to rid the galaxy of the rising alien threats. As a Helldiver, it’s your responsibility to combat these alien forces and protect your home planet and restore peace. In doing so, you’ll need to engage in high-stakes combat with an onslaught of alien lifeforms alongside your comrades. Players are able to select Stratagems, which are air drops players can call, which include cluster bombs, sentry guns, shield generators or supply pods containing limited-use special weaponry. It’s hilarious, smartly designed, and intense whether you’re playing solo, with a squad of other random Helldivers, or serving up a nice hot cup of Liber-tea across the galaxy with your friends and spreading that sweet democracy!

    I’m surprised nobody has mentioned using the quasar to close bug holes. Always nice to know you still have the capability of closing the odd bug hole if you’ve used up all your grenades on chaff

      It is definitely good to have when you're out of grenades and stratagems and there's just the one pesky hole left!

      It's what I use when running impact grenades as they're harder to close bug holes

      And that's because u take grenade pistol, u don't wanna waste grenades on bug holes

    Incendiary breaker is great, no doubt. But i still prefer the blitzer because of its stun/pushback especially for brood commanders, unlimited ammo is always a plus. Blitzer struggles against shriekers though, unless you wait for them to dive at you.
    Stun grenades are my go-to for bugs and bots. Unfortunately this necessitates bringing the grenade pistol for holes unless you really want to wait for the Qcannon to cooldown for every hole. With the blitzer primary though, i don't miss having a secondary to shoot bugs up close with.

      Dude for the higher levels stun grenades are looking more and more useful. Same with smoke

    Pretty good! I love how diverse loadouts around a support weapon can be.
    My Quasar build is pretty different for example. I prefer pairing it with the Jump Pack to quickly reposition or escape in a bad situation, as such I pair it with the extra padding light armor (light gunner) for more defense while keeping the speed and stamina regen of light armor.
    I bring the Sickle, since it's nice to have two weapons with infinite ammo and against bugs you don't really need the armor penetration that much (and because I feel they pair well aesthetically), use the Senator for hive guards who have the medium penetration headplate (or if the sickle is about to heat up) and the Impact to close holes and deal with bile spewers if needed.
    For my other stratagems I just bring red ones since you're pretty much always on the move with this loadout. I also use the 500kg (or OPS if I bring another eagle strike and there's no scatter modifier) for the titans, and a good anti-chaff stratagem like Gas Strike, Airburst Strike, the newly buffed Orbital Gatling Barrage or even some Cluster Bombs (it mostly depends how I feel), just launch any into a breach and see that kill counter go up.

      The jump pack is very fun to use, and I'm currently having a good time with the Orbital Gatling Barrage! It's definitely something I can see myself using in future builds 👌

    The biggest turn-off for me for the quasar cannon is the 3seconds charge up time before firing. It completely sucks ass when a charger comes after you and you have to pray it doesnt ram you before it hits you. Worse, it moves too fkn much and your shots miss at the last second.
    I'd rather use the recoilless rifle. It has on demand firing and can take down chargers in the heat of battle. The reload is totally not a problem as you can use reload cancelling to speed it up. Also you can take down shrieker nests and spore towers from miles away easily without having to wait so long. The backpack is really not a problem since you'd be able to use a more offensive strategem. Never liked backpack strategem as they arent the most proactive things out there.

      Honestly I feel the charge up it's not that bad against terminids once you master how to preemptively start charging the cannon and space yourself from other bugs.
      But yeah the charge up is why I use it very rarely against bots, any stray bullet can make you flinch and you end up shooting to the sky that single shot of explosive energy you've been waiting 15 seconds for, instead of shooting it at the hulk that it's about to cook you into helldiver brochettes.

      @puffer_frog I honestly found the 3 seconds not an issue and if anything it lets me steady my aim before firing. As long as you work on your timings and learn the movements of chargers you'll be fine.
      I know when a charger charges and you dodge it, it takes roughly 2/3 seconds for the charger to turn around, which times in well for charging my Quasar for an easy kill. 🫡

      @@BlaggerYT It takes me 0.5 seconds to steady my aim for the recoiless rifle. Also, I hate when there are 500000 bugs nibbling at your feet while you charge up a shot and you have to waste time killing them first, then waste even more time charging up the queso.
      When a charger charges at you, you can pop a cap in its head with a recoiless rifle, pronto. And then I know there are stuff like edging your cannon to prepare for stuff but idk it just seems to me like quasar cannon has too many hoops to go through to make it usable.

    Flamethrower and Spear are probably bis rn on bugs if u want to have helldive not so difficult
    I would recommend spear if u want to kill big enemies or machine gun/heavy machine gun if u like to kill more less armored enemies and kinda clear for ur team.
    Quasar is more like for solo play and good if u need it to use just once so probably on like 5-7 difficulty, it's not really that op anymore.
    I think if u want to clear helldive in most efficent way u gottta take 1 flamethrower 1 spear and 1 macine gun + ammobackpack and 4th member would have some good wave clearing strategems on bugholes.
    In 80% scenarios i take what i think is best to cover my teammates if take take machine guns and spear i take turrets or more offensive strategems. Becaause if everyone will have same build it will kinda end in disaster

      @Aveniz Very good team layout but I still think the Quasar is the best support strat to take in against heavy enemies still. This build also takes into consideration playing with randoms, so you need the versatility, which is what the Quasar gives you 🫡

      @@BlaggerYT It's not dmg is good, but u need to charge it + recharged. For me personaly spear is a winner against both fractions. On the other hand quasar is could be A tier only on bugs, but on automatons it's like B. + with recent fix for reload, every supply pack from supply regen max ammo for spear so another reason why it's just way too good now

      @Aveniz Spear is definitely a great weapon and against the bots I agree it's the better choice, I will still always pick the Quasar over the Spear for the bugs though 🫡

    Breaker incendiary is usually an issue for 90% of people who use it due to situational awareness with teammates. Scorcher is good but so is the dominator, is the sway annoying at first? Yeah a little, but once you get use to it it's just as good as scorcher if not better. Also galling barrage or hmg turret is so good at dealing with breaches

    Quasar is big yikes on hot planets. Basically 17 seconds between shots. Not a bad weapon but it’s just okay.

      @Phillip_Viera Even though it's every 17 seconds on hot planets, it's still faster than every 60+ seconds to call in EATs or even longer for resupplies to be called in to refill your spear etc 🫡

      I’d argue that on cold planets it feels the best. Not quite back to its original form but close to like 12-13 seconds and THATS where it shines the best on either faction. I would prefer to get the quicker reload time from the recoilless rifle if you have things to take out sooner and pair that with one more heavy attacking stratagem. Your load out definitely works though. I think it shines best on cold planets and if you have team mates bringing more crowd clear (for bugs). Bots - well everyone can just do a hit and run style.
      The good news here is, we have a lot of viable options so no one should ever get mad at other folk’s loadouts like they used to originally. As someone with almost 600 hours, this makes me very happy.

    I prefer team loadouts and roles. But it’s a hit or miss with random matchmaking. For example flamethrowers are ridiculously good against chargers. Quasar or spear for bile titans. Grenade launcher is my own favourite go-to as it can deal very well with anything but chargers. I personally don’t like quasar as the cooldown takes too long…

      @GamingPIPI Yeah it definitely depends on roles, and I play and record all my gameplay with randoms so I try to make them as versatile as possible. The Quasar cooldown isn't too bad considering it has unlimited ammo so the trade off is definitely worth it in my opinion 🫡

    another great build I've been using recently in diff 5-6 is grenade launcher, incendiary breaker, orbital precision or 500kg, stun grenade, eagle airstrike and either the laser drone or another offensive strat depending on if I'm carrying my friends ammo pack and finally the bushwhacker, which seams like a meme gun but being able to kill a brood commander or spewer in one shot on three barrel mode is great for sticky situations, also I don't remember what its called but the gold trim armor is GOATED the Liberty Protects perk has saved me so many times whether its a charger punting me into a wall or standing too close to an explosion, for chargers I like to yeet a freeze nade and orbital or run and blow half a mag out of the fire shotty into their butt

      Looks like a very good build for Diff 6 but once you go higher you'll probably want to switch out your Grenade Launcher for the Quasar cannon for more consistent heavy enemy take downs and I agree any armour with the Democracy Protects armour passive is very strong 🫡

    For some reason since the update, it's become incredibly difficult to not only get the spear to lock onto ship engines, sometimes it just doesn't want to target lock at all. As such until this is identified and fixed I'll be bringing the Quasar to bots missions. Unless it's a hot planet. Ef those planets.

      Yeah I noticed the Spears lock on has improved massively for ground troops but seems to be more buggy when targeting air units 🫡

    Love how you only talk about this weapon in regards to fighting bugs. Typical bugdiver, us helldivers could use some tips on the western front, bots still exist.

    The Quasar cannon is massively overrated. It's really not that good, just use EAT unironically.
