I assume the 7975WX would benchmark higher because the higher clock speed? That’s what I’m looking at getting from both a price and performance standpoint… I also wonder if they both overclock to the same limit because they’re both the same zen cores
Nobody tested these things tuned (SMT off and locking the game to use cores inside 1 chiplet only while somehow still having access to all the L3 on the chip). I bet these could outperform the 3D CPUs.
I know a game, which would break even this cpu apart :) Playing X4 (Spacesim) with a station built out of 4000+ modules (its normally 20+- modules) would probably drop the framerate under 5 fps... My Pc brings same framerates in red dead etc like this. But in X4 when near this station: 1-2 fps. When oos np, framerate goes back to 60+ fps :) I would like to see this game and station-setup with this cpu.
Dude, you buy a 9999 cpu and the first thing you do is game? You can literally make a lot of money with such a powerful cpu and buy every f…ing gaming pc you want. This a a 3D rendering monster, video editing, cad work, architecture, everything but not gaming.
i like the 0% processor usage with some of these games.... i do wonder if even at 0% processor usage there can be system hangs because of a bus clogging. for example when doing some heavy work in the background.... Like compiling, doing texture conversion, rendering, converting a video, compressing a library and playing a game at the same time. does the 8 channel memory make a difference in throughput? or can the system act the same as say 6 systems side by side where nothing hinders the operation of the other?? lets pretend all the apps and games draw and store data from seperate and dedicated ssd's. Assassinscreed valhalla 25% processor usage?? Seriously it uses 24 cpu's 100% max?
I'm trying to make the decision between a 96 core thread ripper and the latest 24 core intel, I need the cores for servers but I also want to have a good computer for gaming in 4k what are your thoughts? any lag or issues with the 96 core? I have a bit of money but not allot to justify buying 2 seperate computers, I'd rather the 1 to do everything, what are your thoughts?
I think it is best to have several computers for each purpose. I'm just compromising because I don't have money, but if I can afford it, I don't have to
@benchmarker6464 thanks bud appreciate the responses and benchmark videos, now I believe I will buy a 24 core Intel cpu seems the best for gaming wise.
The 96 cores would destroy the 24 Intel in anything non gaming. Why not go with the 24 cores TR? If gaming performance is a concer, the 12, 16, 24 and 32 cores TR Pro are all 5.3GHz max while the rest is 5.1GHz. All of them in the same 350w TDP, so the ones with lower clocks have potentially better single core performance at high utilization because there’s less cores per watt. Anyway, if you don’t need/want the massive RAM and PCIe quantities, go normal TR instead of TR Pro.
Warning: This CPU is made for AI computing and machine learning tasks, not made specially for gaming, and also this is not a better choice to pair with 4090 because this is not utilizing system perfectly.
Looks like a memory bottleneck..def need the 1 or 2 tb to let this cpu breathe. Also dosent amd gpu offer better and faster trading and is more optimized.. f when will game engines finally get optimized to run 98.98% cpu and gpu.
this is a mega cpu made for workstations like nasa and shit, it has nothing to do with gaming, it plays far worse than the 7800x3d and you can t even fit it in a normal pc because it s like 4 times bigge. it s not made for gaming and they made it this big just so they can fit more cores threads and cache. they would never be able to do this in a normal sized gaming cpu with the technology we have now
@@benchmarker6464 Indeed, in most games, single core performance is more important (if you have like 3-5 cores). It seems that this monster threadripper's single core performance is not THAT good, but still, for virtualization or CPU RT rendering pipeline, this is a very, very good CPU, if not the best.
Nice video, now why don't you run all these games on integrated graphics on the threadripper and see how it does then? And also, we all know the best CPU benchmark in existence is to run Distant Horizons on maximum CPU load and see how it does xD
You should do test where you run the game and run OBS but with cpu encoding both recording and streaming at the same time while also having Google Chrome open and a few other apps and see how much FPS you have.
Keeping multiple game platforms on is also giving you enough load, First of all, I'm making videos focused on people who play games rather than broadcasting. Are you curious about the performance of playing games while recording?
Yeh that makes sense, have youtube in background with discord running sharing screen while running obs, streaming and playing a game, that's what I usually do.
It literally won’t change anything, this monster has 192 threads clocking decently high with a 350w max TDP. It could use 32 threads just for encoding in very slow and another 32 for background tasks and it would still not be using all threads and would still annihilate any gaming CPU on those other tasks since it has som nay threads to spare for those.
As for the 4k resolution, the performance of gpu is bigger than that of cpu, so there is no significant result. But I tested it, so I'm preparing a video!
Linus tested Crysis 1 or 3 on CPU only mode and it did somewhat ok I think, but terrible 1%s because RAM is still technically too far from CPU. you cant use both because the sync would be terrible and if you force it to sync the latency will be terrible. this can be possible if we get a full SoC x86 chip, with CPU GPU and memory on die.
This thing is a server CPU first and foremost. It can run probably a bazillion servers considering ONE SINGLE CORE in this thing is probably more powerful than most laptops xD

Not a pointless test. The CPU usage is 0-1% and the GPU is not 98-99%? It seems like despite the monster CPU, that is the bottleneck :D
