"there's a child's bike outside" 🤣🤣
"We can disguise it"
"Yeah, we'll put a wooly hat on it and say its you" 😂
"Inflatable for Brian Potter."
"Sounds like a good swap."
😂😂 That exchange is so underrated 😂
You missed off one of the best lines on the audition, "where they coming from, she only had four!"
I'd go further. One of the funniest lines (as well as delivery) in British comedy history!
Definitely 😂
@staticcentrehalf7166 not even close.
I’ve been waiting for this. He’s probably gonna fall off his chair laughing at the bit with the bouncy castle.
100% this!! 😂
“1 of the Balls went over the garden & they said we can’t have it back”! 🤣🤣🤣
The "Les Cadbury's Fingres" was a reference to a joke in one of Peter Kay's tours where he was on about people being excited when they see things they recognise from home when they are abroad.
"Oh look, Les Cadbury's Fingres..." *takes bite "They taste the same!!"
It's on UA-cam titled "Going On Holiday"
I’m from the UK and I enjoy watching your reactions to phoenix nights!! Keep up the work Muppet 😊
You cut the last joke off at the end: - (re the ping pong lady) Brian “where are they coming from? She only had four!”
Sweet Truck Haul often goes under the radar.
Peter's good at getting the visual humour in - there are loads in Car Share.
I’ve never even noticed this OMFG
"I don't know how carnivals and fairs are in the UK"
Exactly the same. Always a scam.
From the many reaction vids I've watched of yours, Brian, you get most of the gags. Some might go past you, but that's understandable because they are either quickfire one after another, or are a reference that you would be unaware of (outside of the UK). This is one of my favourite Phoenix Nights episodes! 👍
I don’t know why people are so obsessed with you not getting jokes, or thinking you don’t for that matter. I don’t even think that when I watch your videos I just enjoy it.
I had the DVD box set of this much loved show and the outakes were absolute gold.
A lot of people still do a 'Booze Run' to France cos it's cheaper, well literally anywhere is cheaper but France on the Ferry and back can be done in a very short time.
Truth. My family and I did this a few times way back when
same for cigs/tobacco - cheaper EU tax.
A good point well made about not getting everything. One of the joys of comedy is finding stuff that's funny which you may have missed first time around.
By far my favourite episode. I also love the fact that Young Kenny wears the face paint for the rest of the series 😂
After this episode the show keeps leveling up and gets so good... This is a core memory from when I was younger 😂
Hey kingboomer I think every video you do
I honestly think whether it’s phoenix night or would I lie to you
I think your doing an amazing job by making this sort of British content be more known to you
As a British man myself
I really enjoy watching you react to British humour
Not everything is laughable
And I’m happy for you to show that side of you because you don’t need to understand everything just to laugh at it
It’s a show to enjoy watching
And if it wasn’t for you showing these content then a lot of Americans would be never know about the show or even the generation after me
So I thank you for showing us that Americans can enjoy a British show as much as the British do
Keep doing what ya doing and keep on doing what you love
Your an inspiration even if it’s an American thing
Keep up the good work
Once played rugby against Den Perry at Rochdale rugby club years ago when I first got into the seniors (he was semi retired from playing by then) and it was after this show. Such a nice bloke.
Ted Robbins had a health scare a while back but thankfully seems to be in good health at present. Kate Robbins is his sister.
@@andymerrett I believe he was on stage when that happened too.
your rant is hilarious, and well put 🤣
6:20 As someone from The North of England, who grew up with club land dying and worked with people exactly like these characters, I'm really glad someone from outside the UK is watching them. Even if you don't fully get them we get a chance to explain them and enjoy how odd it might seem to someone from the outside, bit like when I worked in Florida and shared with Americans.
I think this episode accounted for nearly all the outtakes. Great stuff!
You might not recognise him but the guy who plays Alan is the Racist in Peep Show
That bouncy castle is on every UK-based Facebook page at least once a week 🤣
I'm English - a southerner - and there's probably stuff that I don't get because it relates to living up north, and that's OK. That means that I might get it on a subsequent re-watch, which makes the show even better! If King Muppett is enjoying the show - even if he's missing out on jokes & references 'cos he's only an American, and doesn't have all the same reference points that us Brits do - then let him enjoy what he does get. Like me, he'll probably get even more of the jokes & references when he re-watches it again.
Having said that, it would be quite fun to make him have to show a sign every time! 😄
Good for you! That’s what expands our minds!
Hi King boomer/Queen boomer love your content, fuck the silly ppl who cannot understand that you will not get every joke you can drive 40mins in any direction in England and experience 10 different accent changes and different ways of saying the same thing I was born here and it's still a fxcking minefield ❤
"We'll put a woolly hat on it and say its you" 😂😂
It used to be common to go on a 'booze cruise/run' for cheap alcohol from France, it's not so much nowadays.
Yes the prices have closed a bit, only viable if you’re close to the south
Remember years ago coming back from France 98 as a teenager I saw a guy filling his car with wine and every door pocket off and hiding it in every place you could imagine
I’m actually just back from France via Dover. Love how this episode mirrors what used to be very very common for businesses
Phoenix nights is sooo British more so northern Britain , that it's subtleties are mostly lost even on you King Boomer and you have a good sense of British comedy better than most Americans . It really is stand out comedy and still makes me and millions of others laugh hard 20 years on , it has earned it's place as a comedy legend status .
Congratulations on the 100K+
Never mind any negative comments with numbers like that 😅👍
You can laugh at whatever you want KB!
Same here, f the moaners ,for some of us brits it's only life they have . . F, em
You’d love the bloopers for Phoenix Nights 😂😂😂
9:26 Peter Kay, just talking sense before the world went insane.
Think it was Paddy McGuinness who in the cast commentary of this episode, the production company wouldn't let them have foliage for the bouncy castle haha, they all fell about laughing (have a number of the cast with them when talking about each episode lol).
It gets better and better. Once you're done remember to move on to the spin-off 'Max & Paddy's Road to Nowhere'
Peter Kay and Dave Spikey (Jerry) wrote PN and starred in it, they made a great show, sadly ended too early. Max And Paddy had their own show too. Very much lined up gags that pay off in an instant or later on. PK UK tour this year sold out.
France used to be the place to get cheap beer and wine. Hop on a ferry, fill your car boot and come home same day. Sadly those days are long gone.
It was a double-take moment when I saw this as it first aired, and it's still a bit mad now. The newspaper reporter lived next door to me when we were both kids. She was a couple of years older than me. When we were neighbours she was in Brookside and Coronation Street for a few episodes each, but this was long after I'd been to University and was living elsewhere.
"They might as well be speaking Chinese" - and with that one comment King B proves he has better mystical powers than Clinton Baptiste given how this episode pans out
13:58 omg I’m literally eating cadburys fingers right now lol I feel seen 😂😂
I reckon you and Queen Boomer do very well by all accounts. I know you get most of our wacky humour. It's obvious some of the stuff you won't, but as long as you're enjoying it...good on ya both!😉👍
Has nobody cottoned on what's written on the side of the van?
Check out Freddie Starr, Brititish comedian, either his Vincent sketch, Ray Charles impression, or Indian Sketch. You’ll not regret it🤣
I can see that blue bridge behind Max n Paddy from my house. It was filmed in the UK.😂
Oh I missed it haha, this is hilarious!
The good old beer run , used to do it weekly for a bit [ Belgium], i was working in empty warehouses which doubled up as dance venues on Saturday nights , [think Ray vaun boomer, clue, rave on].The baccy and water did"nt do any harm either. The customs geezers once told us to piss off, the week we forgot our passports and the 2 other lads were pissed with me driving, it was my turn to get pissed as well , never did happen. [they did mention that we certainly went to a lot of private parties , but just let us do it, i think we amused them]. SUF Records on YT [stay up forever]. All the best from East London , Come on you Irons !
The bouncy castle episode epic you will piss your pants 😂 🙌
As soon as I knew you were reacting to this episode, I was so happy to watch it again. It's my favourite. It's to do with the face-paint. Laughing now - haven't even seen it yet!
PS. You always request information about things which are British, that you're not familiar with. I think that's OK.
Few little notes if anyone not from UK 😅
3:10 get it slung - throw in the bin
5:15 burning a hole in their shell suit - a joke on the customers willingness to waste money, plus traditional working class clothing of shell suit which were very flammable (also a nice inclusion of fire metaphor, to reflect with the overarching theme of the club catching fire)
8:40 foreshadowing of the face paint, being done by a "dodgy gypsy friend of Ray Vonn"
10:45 the drawing of Brian incorporates his large flower vase he uses to reach the alcohol from his wheelchair in an earlier episode, to look like the broomstick
11:55 I like he says "the pictures" instead of the cinema. In a later episode it is shown he still uses VHS instead of DVD, showing he is fairly old fashioned and reluctant to change.
15:30 even for the time that Nokia was old, again showing how cheap / unwilling to invest in unnecessary improvements Brian is
16:40 Max mistakenly says "Rosemary Beads" instead of Rosary. Showing his clear ignorance of both religion and research for his smuggling plan.
20:20 someone already mentioned this one but Sweet Truck Haul is here
21:30 "face like a smacked arse" fairly obvious but just a funny awesome English phrase so thought I'd highlight it.
I’ve only recently found your stuff. Amazing. Maybe you’ve already done it but Big Train’s “no w@nking in the office” is my all time fave :)
"That's an old phone" - not surprising as it's an old show. 😂
Hey King Boomer, on your ‘newest intro (on this video), my wife and I agree that at the very start (pre-skipping) you have the same look as a toddler that has stood in the corner and shit his diaper.
Just thought we’d tell ya!
Love the vids, keep it up, Sir👍🏻
Don't worry about these Muppets criticizing your reactions on Phoenix Nights , they don't know what they're on about. This is not a double up laughing type of comedy every 60 seconds , it's full of little gems of comments and visuals from the characters of the show which is hilarious at times , but it's not a 30 minutes of canned laughter type comedy. I for one don't watch your reaction videos and expect to see you doubled up with laughter for the full length of a reaction , that would be the behaviour of a Muppet 😂. Keep up the great work King Boomer and laugh when you want to laugh.
You don't to explain yourself... you're making good content most people enjoy 👌
The train can get you to France in 30 minutes now and they sometimes run special offers. I paid £5 once for 4 of us in the car. Went over, piled up the booze and came home. Was only in France for 2 hours.
Add these two to your list - 1) Operation Good Guys 2) House of Fools
Operation Good Guys 2 😂😂😂
I still watch operation good guys a couple of times a year, So under rated.
@@dunkindiver When they go on the survival week!!!!!
Brilliant reaction. Top man
It’s here….it’s the one……Sammy the snake……best episode ever……love it, it never ages….Thankyou 👍👌🇮🇲😂😂😂❤️🇮🇲
Wikipedia:
Sir Steven Geoffrey Redgrave CBE DL (born 23 March 1962) is a British retired rower who won gold medals at five consecutive Olympic Games from 1984 to 2000. He has also won three Commonwealth Games gold medals and nine World Rowing Championships golds. He is the most successful male rower in Olympic history, and the only man to have won gold medals at five Olympic Games in an endurance sport.[1][2][3][4]
Redgrave is regarded as one of Britain's greatest-ever Olympians. As of 2016 he was the fourth-most decorated British Olympian, after cyclists Sir Chris Hoy, Sir Jason Kenny and Sir Bradley Wiggins. He has carried the British flag at the opening of the Olympic Games on two occasions. In 2002, he was ranked number 36 in the BBC poll of the 100 Greatest Britons.[5] He received the BBC Sports Personality of the Year - Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011.
There are things that will go over your head but that's fine and understandable!
I grew up going to one of these sort of clubs every week as a kid in the 80s.
It was a miners welfare.
Of course you won't get certain references, but that's expected!
Fair play for standing your ground man. 👍
"Snake eyes"😅😅😅 as he bangs 2 stick on eyes on a huge love length 😅😅😅😅😅😅
It is true that this show doesn't translate very well comedy speaking. But you understand it much more than i thought you would to be fair.
Talking Chinese...just wait for it...
You should check the Max and Paddy spin off when you get the chance. It's hilarious.
It’s gonna blow 😂😂😂
M8, you get get it. I'm a southern boy, that's a northern show. Its all about, laughing at humour, inside and out.
Excellent reaction👍
The strange thing about the UK is that, generally speaking the further North you are the more understanding you have of culture, dialect and humour from everything south of you.... but it is generally a one way phenomenon. So while people from the North West (where this is set) will completely get the whole 'London' vibe... many from the south may struggle to fully understand this. But also people from The North West may well struggle with Scottish stuff... while us Scots pretty much fully get this and find it hysterical! (Although even the divide between where I live in Scotland vs Glasgow and Edinburgh is stark.... they really don't have a clue what us in the Highlands are talking about-even though we do share a lot of common idioms, it's just said in a different dialect)
Sadly there has long been a sense of superiority among the population of the south east.... not helped by so much of our media being produced there for years and being only reflective of that particular lifestyle....And also a sense that if you have any of the 320 accents that wasn't representive of either the Queen or London.... you were obviously uneducated and really living in hardship in poverty.
So never worry if folk think you're not getting it.... you've had more variance and cultural understanding from your viewing of various shows to probably understand this better than some in the UK!!! I have a friend from Essex who's entire family just don't get Peter Kay's humour at all due to not knowing much outside their own cultural catchment area
Brilliant episode Jerry the Berry
6:19 for a Boomer mega rant.
Actually I would like to see you do that cue card thing at least once, just for the lols!
People from the UK go to France and Holland etv for duty free alcohol and cigarettes etc.
The customs scene was filmed in my home town.
This is my favourite episode 😂😂😂
Been waiting for you to get to this one
18:04 Feels so good to leave France, even if you're still in France!
it was sticky vickys daughter, moist mary
You tell em Boomer 👏 some muppets out there 😊
Hope you do Max and Paddy after this. You'll love it
tell them all to shut it, or I will, your content is really funny!
Im sure its probably been said before, but you should check out max and paddys spin off series it was awesome. Max and Paddys road to nowhere
Not sure what all the moaners are on about as you and Queen Boomer have always impressed with how much you both love Brit comedy and, while it can be a bit difficult to understand the references, especially from many years ago when the programmes first aired, that is as true for many Brits as it is for you two. Keep doing what you do, man!
It gets better and better.
I think your a top bloke keep up the videos. 🍻🇬🇧
I watched one episode and binned it off, was told to give it another go. And now one of my fav shows. A lot of UK folk don't get Ricky Gervais humour. Yr critics can easily turn off lol.
At one point phone networks use to be that if people were on the same network then text and phone calls between them were cheaper
I'm pretty sure the acts at the end of each episode are real, even the projectile firing woman in this one . The acts from the "alt comedy night" episode were also real, which is even more alarming.
They were reall acts and audittions in first season for sure but i dont think they were in the second season.
You're getting this series as a reactor more than some reactors from the country it's made, don't worry your not going to get all the references but you're doing fine and there are people enjoying them
Ted robbins who plays den Perry is the uncle of Emily Atack who star in The Inbetweeners. Ted and actor who plays Alan (Steve edge ) both were in Benidorm. king boomer should react to max and paddy road to nowhere’s , car share, Peter Kay the thing and still game 👍
“Could somebody tell me why we’ve got a bike on the wall?”
“It’s a theme pub.”
“What theme? Hiroshima? Old shite?”
You should watch Max and Paddy's Road to nowhwere 👍
I can see you enjoy it mate, but a lot of it is British based with a weird English accent so that is acceptable. We will explain in the comments anything you arn`t sure about but meet us half way and answer them, that way we know you know lol.
You and Q B do get our humour. A few specific jokes and cultural references might might slip past, but if you understood the reference you would get the joke, there's nothing wrong with your sense of humour. In fact, I think your more British than you realise. Those goofy intros are more like something a British would do and not be afraid of looking a bit daft. Most Americans are usually too concerned with being perceived as cool and won't go full on Monty Python. Many American comedy TV shows hamstring their humour because of that. Keep up the good work, ya big daftie. 😉
"Gay Satan." I had exactly the same reaction.
ignore the comments, who cares, but they are right, allot if it is going over your head, Peter Kay is very very subtle. Still, we love ya.
I used to have the same phone a motorola it was i'm 39 now and think i had it when i was around 12-13 so probably 1996-97
So many kids had tiger faces that day if you noticed.... not just Young Kenny with that issue then
Those who say you do not understand the humour are not correct because clearly you do and i can tell by your reaction ,so let it be water of a ducks back mate.
They're trying to claim some sort of superiority. I've read comments by Irish people to Father Ted clips saying that the English can't possible get the jokes 🙂
