    BMW dealer near me is either smoking the drapes, Stupid or decided on a low volume high profit service model. $1,140 for this job. With buddy's video I'm totally done car start ready 2hr 20 mins. Huge about of time of the lower small E10 torx. I hope I tightened back enough. No leaks 8 mile test drive.

    1. Do need to drain any oil or coolant to service this housing?
    2. Could this housing be leaking from the gasket because my filter was accumulating too much oil because I didn’t do an oil change in time ?

    You accidentally took an alternator bolt off. Those bolts are aluminum and one time use stretch to yield bolts. You’re lucky it didn’t snap when you impacted it. Really enjoyed your car flipping videos

    Did you pinch coolant hoses, or drain oil before hand?

    Its recommended to use new bolts as they stretch once loosened. Also they should be tighten to 22nm

    You might want to mention NOT to use a self ratcheting wrench on bolt 3. It's lodged and I can't get it free or continue removing the bolt. NOW WHAT?

      Lift the oil filter housing while screwing bolt in or out.

    I'm surprised there was no mention that you must drain the coolant beforehand, and refill and bleed the cooling system afterward!

    • @seancollett6
      @seancollett6 Рік тому +1

      Why? Is this something that is a must? I don't know myself but I am going to have to do this job. What happens if you don't drain, refill and bleed?

      @@seancollett6 the are 2 passages through the housing, oil and coolant. Notice a radiator hose connects to the housing? Coolant goes through it into the block. If you don’t drain it, it will drain itself when you pop the housing off and possibly contaminate your outlet in the process as the passages are next to each other.

    What about this video? ua-cam.com/video/IiYHPnWF-jY/v-deo.html
    I don't have nearly as bad of a leak as this one but I'm a bit intimidated by trying this job. I have a 328i SULEV from 2011. I'm usually pretty handy but I understand that the bolts are aluminum and can snap off? Do I really need to drain the oil and coolant?
