Gary found the way to show him what he could have been, and why, being David, he will *never* bring forth something so great. When David finds out in the end of the duel that he lost and he will lose for it his physical form (the Synthizens, for anyone else not seeing the episode, shoot the losers in their sun where human beings die and Synthizens are stripped of their physical form until someone fixes the patch in their synth), he cries in happiness and thanks Gary: he realized everything about that and was cool to know that, at least, he could have tried and succeeded to be more if only he wanted. Being still Regular Show, when Gary tells Rigby and Mordecai that a Syntizen can always be "restored" by his synth, the others happily stomp and bash David's Synth because he had still been quite a tyrant to everyone else

Red is associated with violent themes for obvious reasons but there's something else about it, red is one of our universes lowest frequencies. and for that reason is usually the first to fade. So even in the beginning david shows how his modus operandi is weak. He uses an incorporeal weapon that uses the color many associate with violence but is also the weakest color when you actually get down to it. Then he expands his weapon into a circular shape while Gary very simply puts his weapon in front of him. It's this very instance you understand Gary is WAY stronger most likely because David chooses a floating, light weapon that while impressive is at its core hollow. While Gary LIFTS A WHOLE ELECTRONIC SYNTH WITH EASE. SHowing if this was a serious altercation Gary would have probably ALREADY WON. Then David starts first without even showing any form of courtesy or honor to Gary. But, Gary once againshows how easily he can upstage David, because the physical synth even without playing BLOCKS all of David's attacks and you can even see it on Gary's face this doesn't even phase him. David doesn't even understand the fundamentals of his opponents weapon , mean while Gary easily placed his weapon in the perfect place to defend himself. On top of that, David is using LASERS. Lasers especially red, can be extremely harmful. So Davids attack is merciless. However his weapon, a giant ring, Leaves him UTTERLY DEFENSELESS. You even see when Gary begins his "attack". His orbs are going right into the ring, But David's attacks were either blasting straight into the physical synth, doing nothing, or around it, equally doing nothing. So from the very start Gary could have probably destroyed David but kept the fight up TO TEACH HIM. Finally when David understands what is happening, you see him cease to play BUT HIS THEME IS STILL GOING. Gary literally TOOK HIS THEME. And when the camera shows Gary, there are lasers and power orbs flying ALL OVER. It was an unquestionable showing from Gary that if he really desired it he could have probably destroyed Garry at that very instant. Note, Gary as using blue AND PURPLE! Showing that Gary's music is complex while David only thinks in one tone. But Blue and purple are high frequency light, Blue is so strong infact that in nature blue is considered one of the MOST DIFFICULT COLORS TO CREATE. Meaning Gary is fighting with three handicaps. His weapon is physical and heavy (but gives him amazing capability todefend); His light make up is complex meaning he is more careful in using it; and his light frequency is WAY strong, nearly impossible infact, to manage. And yet despite this he was completely unfazed by David until the very end. It wasn't even a fight, it was a public humiliation. THe fight ended before it even began.

I always loved how Regular Show necessarily unnecessarily blows people up to end any and every conflict. Duck hunter? Chop in half ad blow him up. Giant head that plays games? Gets so angry he blows himself up. Synth Tyrant? Send him to the sun to blow up. Guy asks bouncer for a pen? Thrown to the ceiling and blown up.
Tron Legacy was likely responsible for synthwave beginning go go mainstream/become popular, so you're not wrong. Back inthe 70s, 80s, and 90s, you had Kraftwerk, Silver Apples, Jean Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulz, etc.
I remember watching this episode with my friends when it was still new, and we were talking through the whole episode (but not enough to miss anything going) and when the synth music kicked we were all just dead silent bobbing our heads 😂
Synthesizers are one of the most powerful instruments ever made. Mainly because they can Synthesize any sound and create entierely new ones... It (in my opinion) is second only to the PipeOrgan
They can't really emulate any sound, per se. Subtractive synthesis couldn't hope to get close, FM synthesis, granular and additive synthesis can make more complex sounds but you can't really simulate the sound of any instrument.
Only physical modeling synths can do believable emulation of most acoustic instruments, but in case of vast majority - you would easily tell the sound came from synth.
David’s hands noticeably and his face were nervous when he made the ring afraid of playing the discord he hated so much while Gary is noticeably just going with the flow not caring if he makes a mistake
Regular Show is kind of insane. A show about two friends goofing off at work, yet here we are on a Halo ring watching Giorgio Moroder and David Bowie having a synth battle to the death.
So I once read an annology to this fight forget the original writer of it and what I say might not be a hundred percent correct The way it was interpreted was that David started off with impressive key skills but it was very repetitive. Gary then returned with a a more free flowing beat the two clashed and opposed. So instead of directly opposing Gary decided to make discord. With if I remember the definition correctly when two princes of musics that are opposing come together.
