- A year after I got my flight instructor certificate and flying only with private pilot students, I got my CFII which means I can now fly with instrument students! My first flight was a nostalgic one with my old private student!
Enjoy the flight
That look at the end is priceless. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve given that look to my CFI. Haha!
I appreciate when you incorporate the chart images into the video.
That “How dare you land my plane” look at the end. Lol
Have just begun my IFR flight training, so this was a great video for me to watch!
Good video as always :D loving these consistant uploads :D
Awesome work. Doing it the hard way for sure, not even a heading bug!
Try ASA Overcasters as view limiter with sunglasses. The just flip up or down when needed and are much easier to use than foggles over sunglasses. Inexpensive too. Nice vid !!
Nice well done to u both wish I was there for the training keep it up cheers
Love your vids man!! From New Zealand 🇳🇿
james manktelow cheers mate!
Great video!
I very much like that you included two "brief the approach" segments. I got my instrument rating in 2010, and I don't know if it was my instructor, or the school, or what, but briefing the approach out loud just wasn't a thing. Since then, I've had instructors ask me why I wasn't doing it. So I've kind of put together a way to do it, but it's useful to hear someone else do it out loud (and the graphics on top of the approach plate are useful too).
Your student did a fantastic job flying it too! My needles aren't always that centered when I fly stuff.
And for those who don't know, doing both the ILS and the step-down-style Localizer is useful to see too.
gevmage Nice I’m glad you appreciate it. The brief is a very important part!
Hello Lew. I really have learned from your videos. By the way, what software do you use to make your videos?
I'm working on getting my CFII rating, just finished the written test. Could you give me a run down on what your CFII checkride was like?
Thanks,
Derrick.
Lewis - Congrats on your new rating. Transitioned my profile from votejayschwartz to my youtube channel. Keep up the great work as always! Jay
NIce job! Dead on those needles.
Does your school do any accelerated type program for singe engine commercial rating? I have almost all the requirements except for the complex time. Would like to knock it out in a short period of time.
What's with the controller hassling you about your altitude? Did he think you were flying the ILS instead of the LOC?
Nice video captain what the name of song ?
Are you guys timing the LOC approach from the FAF to the MAP? or just using DME to determine the MAP on the approach plate?
You should really time from FAF on a non precision and even on a precision in case you lose a component. You can use DME in lieu of timing but if it goes out while shooting the approach you don’t have a backup without timing. I can’t remember without watching the video back if we timed it or not haha
do you acquire flying hours even when you are not controlling the airplane?
Jose Ruben Varela yes.. CFI
When you're riding as CFI, you get to log pilot-in-command time.
On the other hand, it's your ticket on the line if the student commits a violation or bends the airplane, so I guess that evens out. :-)
Ok...your "Welcome to the Sky" was just wrong!! LMAO! I'm planning to be in that area on Feb 23. Any chance of getting a flight with you? I'm working on my Instrument rating and would love to shoot an approach or two with you.
NESkyz I know! The catchphrase was a bit creepy this time around haha. I’m sure we can work in a flight while you’re here. Where you staying?
LewDix Aviation I will actually be passing thru. Driving from Sarasota to I95 and then headed north to Myrtle Beach. Planning to leave early in the am and would be in your area probably around 9am.
