NIce video lad. Sometimes we can't win every fight in life, sadly I lose mine. BUt your video sure gave me power to go down with a good fight. Toaster is dead but memories will live on.
This video was so helpful. Thanks so much. I never would have though the lever not staying down had anything to do with electricity. You explained the inner workings so clearly, and mine is working again.
This was useful and helped me to successfully repair our toaster. However, once the toaster is open, I strongly recommend to clean the electromagnet surface and its metal counterpart as well. In our toaster, there were some greasy bread remains on it which certainly at least weakened the magnetic force. I cleaned it with a bit of isopropyl alcohol. I don't know which of these was the problem after all, just recommend to do both.
I have a question, rn I’m really young and I don’t know how a toaster operates, I recently just used an toaster and I need help with getting some answers and I’m too scared to tell my parents that the toaster turned off all the power, not all, I am able to use wifi but charging my device is a problem. Does anyone know what happen ? Because when I used the toaster, suddenly the toaster turned off some the power, I searched on google just to find answers of cleaning the toaster or either that the short circuit is tripping (I don’t know what it means), and it could be life threatening to us. I’ve been slightly scared by this problem and I’ve tried unplugging the toaster to see if the electricity will come back, but it won’t. Does anyone know what’s going on?
@@mak1-zen1nYour toaster obviously triggered the fuse to turn off. Unplugging the toaster was good, do not plug it in again. If you know where the fuses are, you can now turn it on again, but leave the toaster unplugged.
@@metins4324that’s right. Unplug the toaster and go search for the fuse box and turn the switch to the fuse back on. That should bring all your other electrical appliances back on. Next, take the faulty toaster to the rubbish tip and get yourself a new toaster. Toasters are extremely cheap these days. Go get yourself one for the family home.
Just wanted to thank you - we couldn't get the handle off the toaster to allow us to take off the case. Because you mentioned a screw, we found the screw, took off the handle, took off the case and found the small deep crumbs that were preventing the electricity from connecting. Our toaster (different model) lives to toast another day, thanks to you.
Thank you I will take a look and see if this is the problem. And by the way, thank you for getting right to the point not like most other sights talk about everything but the problem.
Well done - I had to laugh out loud when I realized mine was also magnatized and not a latch... kept looking for the obvious on a $40 toaster... a latch of some kind. Saw something like a magnet but tossed that idea aside.. turns out.. you saved me $40 and more importantly one less piece of plastic in the trash.
A kniferack fell on my toaster yesterday and somehow broke it. Haven't even had time to open it yet but this video gave a pretty good idea which parts have propable shifted around and caused a faulty connection.
Also don't forget to check the supply to the socket. I just took my toaster apart, did as the video said, only to find it had tripped the earth leakage breaker. Reset the breaker and the toaster works. Shall monitor, if it does it again it's in the bin. Thanks for the vid.
My Monky-Ward toaster died and went on Consumer Reports for a new one. Unfortunately, none of the reviews were positive from broke after two years to uneven heating. So I opened mine up, did some cleaning, adjusted the "color dial" and it came back to life. Gotta be a 40 yr old toaster, ya know, the days before they started putting capacitors in them.
My shed now has 3 toasters in it ..( no time to look see ) and they all have the same complaint ..It only toasts the top part of the bread !!! so its over to you before I clear my shed . Thanks for any help you can give me
Thanks Adam very helpful, very informative. We have a Hamilton Beach toaster 4 slice both sides are acting up. We haven't gotten the service out of it that I feel we should have for the money. I'm hoping it's something simple like you showed us....thanks again Adam for your info 🙂 And.....remember, God loves you, Adam, and He wants you to love Him too 🙂 Thanks again for your help !
I'm with Ben ... very nice friendly video, Adam. Thanks. Cleaning contacts didn't work for me either, but i enjoyed following your video and trying. Have a terrific day.
The rods that the handle slides down got worn and stiff on mine resulting in requiring more pressure needed to lower the bread and that resulted in the handle strut bending and catching on the circuit board before reaching the bottom. Natural tendency was to press even harder which only made the problem worse. Trimming the strut with tin snips helped but replacing handle strut with a better design would have been better. By the time that became apparent the machine was scrap from so much dismantling but will be better prepared next time.
My problem is that a zener diode (glass style) dead shorted in the electromagnet circuit. The number on it melted off so I have no idea what part it is and Oster doesn't seem to have the schematic online anywhere. I tried a cheap 1N4007 which made the toaster work, but the resistor inline with the circuit started getting really hot, even when the toaster wasn't activated. So then I found another zener on the board that looked like my bad one (1N4733a) and bought some of those. Well now the electromagnet won't hold down. I presume the zener is being used as a way to provide the correct voltage to the electromagnet to hold down the toaster mechanism. So here I am on youtube looking for someone that knows what voltage or part number I'm shooting for to fix my 20 year old toaster. I'm only trying to keep it alive for sentimental reasons.
When I push down on the lever it pushes two metal tabs out to make contact with the outer tabs that are just barely separated when the lever is released, is this just a switch or does it have anything to do with the amount of time the heat is on? I'm having trouble adjusting the gap.
New viewers need to understand the cord issues shown only test with the plug in the wall socket. The toast carrier will NOT lock down with no power going through the device. Wiggling the cord at the plug or toaster does nothing if the plug isn't in a hot wall socket.
Hi Adam , my toaster contact is working , but the lever does not stay down and I cannot work it out why ....is a Brevilke model TT 7 Your advice is appreciated....
Hi great video...I got problem with my hamiltonbeach toaster Type T69 Model no 22456. . my bread wont pop up..they just continue to toast and burn but wont pop up please help
Mine just went BANG and few out a big spark - blowing the fuses on the stove . Was expecting to see black scorch marks when I took it apart but alas nothing …. any ideas ?
The contact metal generate spark when pulled down. The toaster wires turn red which means electricity is running. however, the toaster does not stay down, indicating electromagnet is not generated. what could be the cause of spark n no magnet hold?
Hi AdamDIY - great informative not-a-lot-of-crap vid - thank you - my biggest problem is how to find the right tool to unscrew the little (mo_t_er f__king little a--hole screws) tool that unscrews the back/bottom from the unit so I can figure out how to fix it to stay down - I've sprayed them with wd40 3 x's now & got the two off near the cord but it seems like different screws take different size OCTAGONAL toolbits - how did you get the back/bottom off, PLEASE-PLEASE-PLEASE????? oh, please somebody respond - I'm going nutz !!! thanks, thunderhorse_49MMC
+THUNDERHORSE49 mmc There is a trick to making any kind of driver. You melt the end of a Bic pen with a lighter just enough that the plastic is soft and then press it on the head of the screw you want to remove. Then when it cools it is the shape of the screw head. I do that when I dont have the bit I need. You can get a set of bits at home depot.
Thank you!!! My lever wasn’t going down. Turns out it kicked the bucket. Time for a replacement. Will update when my new toaster gets shipped and delivered from amazon!!♥️
Thanks, my husband left me a text that we needed a new toaster. Your tutorial helped me fix it. 😀
NIce video lad. Sometimes we can't win every fight in life, sadly I lose mine. BUt your video sure gave me power to go down with a good fight. Toaster is dead but memories will live on.
Thanks for saving me $20 cause I just about to throw my toaster out to buy a new one. It wasn't touching the contacts and I fixed it. Kudos to you.
This video was so helpful. Thanks so much. I never would have though the lever not staying down had anything to do with electricity. You explained the inner workings so clearly, and mine is working again.
Thank you! Thanks to this clip I was able to fix my toaster and you saved me a good 20 bucks! UA-cam DIY FTW again!

Excellent recommendation! In my case, it was a dirty magnet and not the contacts that was the issue.

Thank you . . . fixed my nearly new toaster by watching your video
Thanks! Solved mu problem. Note that when you first plug it you have to hold it down for a bit to give time for the magnet to magnetize.
FIXED! Saved the planet one extra product. Thanks

Whoa, thank you so much for this video. It really saved my toaster's life. Glad I don't need to throw it away.
Thank you! First of all, it is interesting to learn the mechanisms. Second, one less toaster un a landfill and one less that I need to purchase.
Amazing!
We just repaired our toaster by sanding the contacts.
Thank you sir!
A kniferack fell on my toaster yesterday and somehow broke it. Haven't even had time to open it yet but this video gave a pretty good idea which parts have propable shifted around and caused a faulty connection.
Excellently explained.

Thank you from England. Worked a treat!
On my toaster , I had to clean the electromagnet to , once it was cleaned started to work . tank you
It's exactly what you described, a bit of bread was sticking between the contacts. Thanks!

Just fixed my toaster thank you , your video was very helpful perfectly demonstrated
Thanks a lot . I just moved the cord around and my toaster is working now . ✌️👍
Thanks for the great video. Our toaster causes the GFCI to break any thoughts?
Much better than other toaster videos.
Thank you so much for the advice, I managed to sand down those contacts and it did the trick 👌
Most of these new toasters today need a triwing screwdriver to open them..I dont know who came up with that silly idea !!
Thanks Adam. You hit it right on. Dirty contacts.
Worked like a charm. Thank you!!
Legend. Fixed in a few mins
Thank you!! Saved our toaster 😁
Thank You for explaining :-) Helped me repair my Krups toaster - problem caused by a small piece of bread in the contact.
Very good explanation / demonstration. Thanks Adam!
Your system and method worked for me! Thank you for a great video!
Thank you for your nice 👌 video.

What is the best way to clean the contacts? I tried a dremel with sander, but getting in there is tough. Maybe an emory board?
Thanks to taking the time and the effort to make this video, From UK
You saved my toaster (and my wallet) thank you.
Excellent video and thank you for sharing 😊🙏 now I know what is the problem with my toaster..
You sir just saved my family $500 dollars. Caint believe it , thanks a hundred

Thanks Adam for the video. Just found out that one of the switch contacts is broken in mine. Do you reckon this is replaceable?
I'm with Ben ... very nice friendly video, Adam. Thanks. Cleaning contacts didn't work for me either, but i enjoyed following your video and trying. Have a terrific day.
Cleaning contacts didn't work. I think I hear arcing, I can't get the handle off and that is making trouble shooting difficult. Useful video.

Thanks for the Info . my problem the unit heats up while pressing the nob it seemed the magnet it is not activated. Any suggestion? Thanks
You need to clean the magnet and the contacts below. I used an emery board and that did the trick for me, someone else used rubbing alcohol.
Yeah cleaning the contacts worked, thanks sir :)
Thanks for every youtubers, watching differents vids, like your, not all systems are same, I could fix my toaster . thnks.

worked for me. thanks.
Wow...thank you for the great video! Saved this toaster from the landfill.

When I push down on the lever it pushes two metal tabs out to make contact with the outer tabs that are just barely separated when the lever is released, is this just a switch or does it have anything to do with the amount of time the heat is on? I'm having trouble adjusting the gap.

There probably is a break in the circuit somewhere.
How to replace the toaster cord and what size cord?
Hi Adam , my toaster contact is working , but the lever does not stay down and I cannot work it out why ....is a Brevilke model TT 7

Does your toaster work when you hold on to the press? If so then hold on until your slices receive the desired browning. 😂😂😂
Very useful video! I fixed my toaster by cleaning the connectors. Thank you! :-)
My toaster timer or darkness dial doesn’t seem to be working. It never releases the toast even on the lowest setting. How do I fix that?
Thanks. It works for me to clean the copper pieces.

My toaster is not even broken why am I watching this. Good video though
I’m saved
That is what my toaster is doing and it only 3 months old
