Never ever use the short cycle whshing program, this is the one which uses the most water amount! Better take the eco one. It lasts longer but that‘s why it soaks the laundry longer with just a small amount of water 🙃 It‘s also recommended to use lemon for cleaning instead of vinegar because vinegar is too aggressive and can cause harm over the years to surfaces, stainless steal and so on. But anyway, THANK YOU for this inspirational wonderful video, I will go for a cleaning day now 😊 You really did a great job ❤️
I agree on not using the short cycle program. I have that on my washer and I can also see on the display how much water and electricity it uses. Compared to a slow eco cycle it uses TWICE the amount of water and FOUR TIMES the amount of electricity!
I agree for vinegar. I also use it for the kettle and the bathroom but it should be avoided on some surfaces , for instance marble which is often used in kitchens. I use cleaning alcohol instead.
Thank you Blue 💙 I would also recommend plain black tea to clean glass surfaces and mirrors, it’s the closest I’ve found to a chemical glass cleaner. The banana skin hack is great, will definitely do it too!
This is the first eco friendly cleaning routine which is an actual cleaning routine instead of airing out the blankets and dusting 😒😂as most of them don’t seem to “clean” instead do it for the aesthetic, cheers for the great tips !
Thanks for the banana skin tip for plant leaves. Very interesting. I will use that tip. Good news - my apartment building in Zurich has just got an organic waste recycling bin to be later used for compost. So am pleased about that.
Baking soda and vinegar or citric acid combine to make CO2 and water btw (the CO2 is why you see the fizz). Sometimes the fizz can bust stuff up, but otherwise, you're just cleaning with water when you combine the two. Better to use either separately. :-)
I use a banana the same way! And then, I soak the peels in a jar of water for a couple of days, then use that water for my plants, and it really seems to perk them up!
Like the vibe of this video! In one of her last videos, Amber from The fairly local vegan brewed banana tea as a fertilizer for her plants - now I've learned yet another use. x
60+ degrees for washing clothes is very important ESPECIALLY if you have gotten sick. It kills bakteria and viruses so please keep that in mind when you do your laundry after being sick/I'll with he flu or an infection.
@@blueollisZurich as you may know Blue is an expensive city. But Apple Cider vinegar is only about CHF3.80 a bottle and I love it in salads among other uses. Also use it in my loo to whiten. Does wonders. Enjoy your Sunday.
it never occurred to me that people use anything other than vinegar to clean a kettle. and thanks for the citric acid/baking soda toilet cleaner idea. thats one i struggle with since a toilet needs such a strong cleaning agent. also its so awesome that you can buy soap in bulk. not an option here, but you can get bar soap with no packaging.
A trick my grandma showed me is that you can also use black sand paper to get the inside and outside of your toilet clean by diligently scrubbing the water stains. Also works for other areas of the house.
I use citric acid to clean the kettle as well, because vinegar fumes may be dangerous. Add it to the kettle filled with water, boil and let it cool. Works well!
Thank you for another great video! I didn't guess the banana method. I've heard of people cleaning footwear with them, but not plants. I'll give this a try :)
nice video ,👍 I make bio enzymes ( natural )and use it with soapnut water to clean surfaces ,laundry and utensils . I really liked your instant orange peel cinnamon cleaner . I wil try it make banana bio enzyme( natural )and spray on plants it increases sustainability .
Fab video. I soak my banana skins in a jar of water for a few days. Then water my plants now and again with it as it acts as plant food. I never used to be able to keep house plants. But they live now 😉
I use to over water my plants & I thought all plants needed the same care. Now I water less and read each plants care. One plant I have goes dormant (& should be in 50 degree temp) for 2 months in the winter, who knew? I'm looking forward to trying the banana peel as plant food!
Hahaha yes, that’s why I keep mine separate! It solidifies into basically a bath bomb when combined which you can actually make into small bombs to just chuck into the toilet bowl but I like to sprinkle them in separately.
Banana? Maybe to clean your toilet?? I’m excited to see what you use it for! Edited: NVM I was wrong! I love what you used the banana for! Good idea! I enjoyed this video so much thanks Blue 💙
I have used Castile soap (both solid and liquid versions), unpackaged powdered and liquid soap from zero waste shops and supermarkets (making sure they aren’t tested on animals), an eco egg... there are lots of options that all work well!
citric acid+soda works the same as vinegar+soda, it barely cleans. Better is to use soda+dishwashing liquid, scrub it, flush. Then citric acid or vinegar for removing "stone" I forgot word in english. Also read your washing machine instruction, shortest programs are not energy or water efficient.
Great video Blue! What do you use to was your clothes with in the machine? I usually refill my bottles at my local zero waste shop but was wondering if you have found a more natural alternative?❤️
I have used Castile soap, both in liquid form and making my own powered with the solid form, loose dish powder from the supermarket and from my local low-waste shop, an eco egg... there are lots of options!
Great video! I guessed the thing about banana peel when you said it! It works wonders for my plants 😊 I know you said that you uses the vinegar for calcium build up but do you find it works for soap built up as well? Like in the shower

For laundrey i hv a better way; you can put your clothes especially underwear in a boiling water and scrub some soap and leave it boiling for 10 min the result is WOW my grandma used to do it then mom then me
I often hand wash my clothes, especially delicates and when I only have a few items that need washing. I'd steer clear of boiling water for anything that may shrink or easily damage and reserve that for items that really need to be decontaminated and can handle the temperature.
I see you don't use microfiber cloths any more. Great. While they do a great job and last for years they are plastic which they shed. There's enough plastic waste in out environment.

You put vinegar on wood?
Does the banana leave a bad smell on the plants after a while? Curious if anyone’s tried it yet
Nope. It smells like banana for a few minutes and then odourless.
When I buy my liquid soap from my local zerowaste store, I dissolve it with some water and a tiny bit of vinegar. This makes it last way longer 😊

Spring clean time 😀 Do you keep your citric acid and bicarbonate separate? I was mixing them together but it was going solid in an air tight jar 😕

does white vinegar work instead of distilled vinegar or does it has to be that kind?
Most vinegars will work including white vinegar and apple cider vinegar.
