Love your talkie/rant videos recently, but also love seeing how you move through your life to continue living sustainably. It doesn’t feel important to show but I think a lot of ppl need to see deep cleaning, mending, shopping with reusable bags, renting things, etc… to normalize doing these things because I think a lot of us are so used to our throw away culture. We don’t get to see ppl living sustainably around us and then get embarrassed to do it by ourselves. So these like going about your sustainability routines in the everyday make me feel validated in looking a little strange sometimes lol.
Would love to see you doing more vlogs featuring repairs, mending and just everyday sustainable habits. It makes it more tangible, and always good to see someone unskilled prove that even someone like me can repair some things
I have colored rags for cleaning projects. So in the bathroom we have a white rag for the white toilet and we have a blue rag that's for cleaning the sink as "blue is not for poo". We have had a pink rag at one time and it was "pink for the sink". So we never mixed up our toilet rags (even when cleaned) accidentally.
Anytime we actually end up having a paper napkin, like eating from a restaurant or being at the airport. I flatten out those used napkins, and save them to clean out the rest of my compost bin. Since paper napkins can be composted, it's even better.
A suggestion for decluttering vs being sustainable: I would suggest filling a box with clutter and putting it somewhere you don’t normally look and if you don’t think of anything in the bin for the next few months then donate it!
Decluttering in a low-waste way is so stressful for me. Like there are so many steps to take and the idea of just like throwing it all out the window and easily never having to think about it again is so tempting TT
Petition for the editor to put degrees in Celsius on the screen because I'm lazy and don't want to Google every time but still do because I'm also too curious 😂
My cat has asthma too! It was so bad for a long time, but with consistent inhaler use over about 6 months, it got SO much better! He's now a year asthma-attack-free, after it was several times a week! We got an air purifier too to keep in the room he spends most of his time, and he's gotten even better!! Keep listening to your vet and don't give up hope! 💪
I love how Madison went from never wanting her face in videos to bending over on camera for us xD Madison, we love you and appreciate you so so so much lol
This is the first long-form content of yours that I've watched and I keep coming back to this video as I get my home ready for spring. There's something really chill and personable about your approach to sustainability that I love, plus you have a beautiful home and the lighting/style of this video is immaculate to me. Thank you for sharing!
hack for the freezer bin - get the compostable small bags (biobags) and use it as a liner! its been a game changer for us and an allows us to not worry about how wet something is and if it will come out!
I have been using a cloth to clean the toilet, i just clean everything else in the bathrooms that needs doing first, then do the toilets, and then it just goes in the wash
I like this style! I think sometimes I need to see sustainable practices like the ones you talk about actually, like, in /practice/ to really get how easy some of the switches can be.
17:25 this might just be rewording what Shelby said but imo the biggest question you should ask yourself is “what can this be used for?” Like you might be tempted to keep something because you know it has a lot of uses, but if none of those uses are relevant to your life, it’s not worth it. For example, I used to keep paper shopping bags all the time because that material is so reusable, but as the bags kept piling up, I realized I wasn’t actually doing anything with them, so I recycled them. It comes down to what works for you :)
13:11 the way people drive!!!! The amount of times that people have cut me off, completely ignored me or went when it should’ve been my turn is insane. I ride an Urban Arrow. You see me! I know you do!
My husband bought me a set of GreenPan cookware when I gave my old ceramic pans to a friend in need. I cannot rave about them enough. The quality is amazing. Love this type of video and watching how your brain works similar to my own.
That store is amazing. I wish we had something like this. We don't get 90 degrees days until July or August thank goodness. Just the thought of that makes me nearly cry.
Re. Cloths to clean the toilet. I colour code my cloths to separate toilet/bathroom cloths from kitchen cloths. You could also embroider a little symbol on them to indicate the use :)
i really like this format of video, bc it's informative but maybe more importantly it's seeing a person living their life and kind of normalize doing these things? Also I love seeing your chickens!! My family have chickens and they're really the best pets, so sociable and sweet and you get eggs, they take care of food waste and their poop is the best fertilizer! your girls are so pretty
You are my first stop before going shopping. I honestly hope to achieve your level of commitment to sustainability and prosperity! 🌳🏝🐉 It’s always refreshing to put into perspective how marketing makes me want to buy more, but the quality isn’t being added with quantity. Everything will become normal to a person after sometime. Mass consuming media has effects on mental perception that last indefinitely without regulations and clear boundaries set in place.
If you have a citrus essential oil, it works just as good as goo gone as well!! I clean my toilet with reusable microfiber cloths. To make it a little more hygienic, I separate the ones I use for the toilet specifically (by color) and I use diff colors for food and kitchen cleaning!
I like your environmentally friendly replacement for Goo Gone but thought you'd want to be aware that microplastics are in your cloths that shed when rinsed and washed so they end up in our waterways.
I have really liked Biom wipes for my toilet! They come in a reusable container and then when you re-order in a pouch. The wipes are composable. I only use them on my toilet so they last quite a while. Not a perfect solution but a good one if you’re grossed out by toilets like me 😅
18:20 In Denmark, I'd say it's super normal to use reusable cloths to clean your toilet. I'm pretty sure it's the norm in most homes, so yeah, I'd say it's safe. You put it to the wash afterwards after all and if you wash it on 60 or 90 degrees celsius, all bacteria would be killed next time you use it.
I haven't avidly watched you in a couple years. You are looking so gorgeous and healthy, this way of life is definitely the way, I just need to get disciplined😭
I absolutely love your vlog style videos! Just chatty catching up and getting things done. They’re so inspiring and motivating. I’m actually assembling my compost tumbler as I’m watching this lol!
To get annoying goo off glass make a paste with oil (I used regular vegetable oil) and baking soda. Cover the sticky/gooey part with the paste and let it sit for about 15 min. Then scrub :)
re: repairing clothing, Morgan Donner did a video recently that I really loved about making conspicuous, beautiful repairs! Obviously that's not the vibe everyone is going for or wanting but I'm planning to try some of them soon!
I cannot bring myself to use a reusable cloth for the toilet, however I use reusable clothes for pretty much everything else dusting, countertops, kitchen sink etc - what I really struggle to understand is; how much more sustainable is it for me using separate cloths for all these things and then washing them all usually 1 or 2 at a time ( I don’t clean the whole house in one day ) in a hot wash on 90 degrees C vs just using recycled paper towels etc? I’m happy to reuse ♻️ and ok dust isn’t that bad but the bacteria from a wet cloth just don’t die in a regular wash and they start to smell.. and obviously I wash my clothes wash on a cold wash to save energy so it’s always a separate load. I have also boiled cloths on a hob to save the mostly empty washing machine running but then I’m using gas? Which is likely worse! I’m not saying buy a bunch of disposable plastic wipes but I don’t know what the most environmentally sound AND hygienic solution is. If someone does let me know! ps. I live in a miserable climate we only get about 8 weeks x year in which the sun can sanitise while line drying so that’s not much of an option either 🙃
We have a compost penthouse in our freezer lol, the top shelf left side is solely for food scraps and it is slowly expanding to take up the whole shelf because we keep forgetting to take it to the community compost drop-off
I really enjoyed this video 😊😁🎥 and it would be great if you could do seasonal Sunday resets. I look forward to part two 😊 I use reusable cloths for cleaning my bathroom and toilet. I down cycle toothbrushes as cleaning tools. I have a variety of reusable items for cleaning my house. I like them 😁 and they work well for me 🎉
I use one side of my sink for compost and use the red, plastic folders can with the lid. I need it close to coffee maker because I use the Keurig fillable pods and need to dump them after each use. They get messy but saves alot of coffee and plastic. I also use dishes from goodwill or garage sales under my plants! Saves money and they are easy and more fun styles than just the normal drip pans. I definitely need to get my cat in because she seems to wheeze and I will give her my inhaler but it's not easy. It's the same med apparently, but prob need a proper diagnosis. 😢
Love ya girly! Can you make more videos on how to be more involved in your community please? (Specifically for people wondering what they can do for their community. )
I have been wanting to get new pans. The ones I got I received as a gift and are the cheap starter set. The handles aren’t sturdy anymore, and I’ve tried tightening them. So I’m gonna save up for the nice quality ones from Green Pan.
Yeah I leave my compost in the fridge too. I just have to walk 2 or 5 blocks to drop it off (depending of if the closest one is already full or not 😅 but at least the app we have tells you if it’s full!)
I immediately put my compost bin in the freezer after you suggested to do so! The one I have is pretty small and I usually don’t have too much food in my freezer.
Poor tippy but I wonder if you have hidden mold somewhere in the house. Cats are the first to notice. Or if you use any candles or oils cause agitated but I don’t think you use that many.
IDK if anyone else said this but I’d use the paper packing material from the Thrive Market boxes etc to line the compost bin. Everything should just stick to it and fall right out next time.
Does anyone remember the video Shelby talked about that website that helps you dispute your debt? Lmk if anyone remembers! I used it once and it worked perfectly but I can’t remember the name of it. Thank you!
I really like this kind of videos and would love to see part 2. I'm almost done reading fiber fueled by will bulsiewicz and he has some interesting facts about food insensitivities in there and also just cool stuff about properties of different plant foods 😃
TIL that not only is there not a buy nothing group in my neighborhood. There's not one in my town or county. The nearest one is an hour away. I'll have to see if I have the energy to apply to run one because I live in my state's capital and it's wild to me we don't have one already.
honestly if you're super bothered to use rags on your toilet, keep the ones you use on it separate and wash em separate. when you're done, wash them (probably by hand, you're not gonna have very many) with dish soap instead of laundry soap and rinse with vinegar. personally i don't care in the least and just wash all my cleaning rags together.
I had no idea that whenever you mentioned your buy nothing group it was an actual webpage/app lol. I always thought it was like a fb group but I’m glad you showed it a bit, thank you!
Curious what your thoughts are on Rustic Strength detergent? I found them recently and their ingredients seem pretty clean and they close the loop by sanitizing and reusing containers. Cast iron well kept is heirloom😉

We have had a pink rag at one time and it was "pink for the sink". So we never mixed up our toilet rags (even when cleaned) accidentally.
And vice versa for people from British English regions: blue for the loo 😉
@@mayjunejulia Haha well of we ever get pink rags again (or another color for the sink), we can easily downgrade our blue rags then 😆
Anytime we actually end up having a paper napkin, like eating from a restaurant or being at the airport. I flatten out those used napkins, and save them to clean out the rest of my compost bin. Since paper napkins can be composted, it's even better.

90 F is a touch over 32C
Right!! Haha
The vlog style is my favorite! I've been missing your content and would love a second part.
Bathroom cleaning cloths tip...blue for loo, pink for sink :)

I do the same thing! I think it works just fine and as long as the cloth is only used in the bathroom I don’t really see a hygienic issue!
lol Texas, where you call spring 90 degrees. Where I live, that’s the height of summer.
Same, Austin seems like such a great city but I don’t think I could survive somewhere where it gets that high in /April/😂
Where do you live? I might need to move, our height of summer last year was 117 🥴
✨7 seconds✨ I've truly never been so early for a video in my entire life. Was searching for a video to watch and got your notification 😂
I like this style! I think sometimes I need to see sustainable practices like the ones you talk about actually, like, in /practice/ to really get how easy some of the switches can be.
I use baking soda for a ton, but when you combine baking soda and an acid like vinegar or lemon they neutralize eachother.
Take an old wooden spoon with you to the bin and scrape the remnants into the bin. It’s so easy!
About that reusable cloth. Bacteria dies when over 75 degrees Celsius or 167 degrees Fahrenheit. So if your washer can go over that you are all good!
17:25 this might just be rewording what Shelby said but imo the biggest question you should ask yourself is “what can this be used for?” Like you might be tempted to keep something because you know it has a lot of uses, but if none of those uses are relevant to your life, it’s not worth it. I bought a speedweave to help me repair clothes and it was a total game changer! It helps you make patches with just embroidery thread.
My husband bought me a set of GreenPan cookware when I gave my old ceramic pans to a friend in need. I cannot rave about them enough. The quality is amazing. Love this type of video and watching how your brain works similar to my own.
Such fun to hang out while also getting work done! I love body doubling with my favorite youtubers.

Yes! Been waiting for a video like this. Excited to see your eco friendly routine! 🌿
Just to say, I loved this format of video! Really engaging and interesting to watch, please do more like this!
I love Dr Bronners, I use them for literally EVERYTHING - body wash, dish soap, surface cleaner, etc.
Adding a bit of lemon juice to the mix of cleaning your pans helps greatly.
Mixing baking soda and any kind of oil works just as well as goo gone :D
If you put newspaper or scrap paper in the bottom of the compost bin the won't freeze to the plastic :)

Good to know about the cleaning pots and pans. I’ve been scrubbing a few of my greenpans with normal soap and nothing was working
I haven't avidly watched you in a couple years. You are looking so gorgeous and healthy, this way of life is definitely the way, I just need to get disciplined😭

"Hole is gone" was so funny to me 😂 good job, reminding me of the tower of clothes in my to-mend pile
We just rinse out compost into junky blender and after dump the liquid into an area in yard and toss leaves and dirt onto it.
I just wanted to say how much I missed you on UA-cam! So happy that you are healthy again!
Thrive also now takes EBT as a payment. I was so excited when they announced they finally got approval. ❤
re: repairing clothing, Morgan Donner did a video recently that I really loved about making conspicuous, beautiful repairs! Obviously that's not the vibe everyone is going for or wanting but I'm planning to try some of them soon!
i am totally copying the shallow glassbowl idea! it is very needed lol

I know it's kind of basic but I would love an updated sustainable beauty products video. I am really struggle to find sustainable make up.
Would love a re-visit on PVA if you are changing your mind on it!
We have a compost penthouse in our freezer lol, the top shelf left side is solely for food scraps and it is slowly expanding to take up the whole shelf because we keep forgetting to take it to the community compost drop-off

❤ Very helpful cleaning pans , I'm inspired because I was going to buy new ones but not anymore
I have been wanting to get new pans. The ones I got I received as a gift and are the cheap starter set. The handles aren’t sturdy anymore, and I’ve tried tightening them. So I’m gonna save up for the nice quality ones from Green Pan.
Put kitchen paper towels into your compost bin first and enjoy a clean bin 😊
I feed my cat insect based kibble by Catit , there’s also a brand called Jiminy which is insect based wet and dry food for Dogs!!!
Yeah I leave my compost in the fridge too. I just have to walk 2 or 5 blocks to drop it off (depending of if the closest one is already full or not 😅 but at least the app we have tells you if it’s full!)
Yes! Loved this video - so helpful to see the pans and the sustainable products and tricks you use to get the job done. Thank you and more please x
I immediately put my compost bin in the freezer after you suggested to do so! The one I have is pretty small and I usually don’t have too much food in my freezer.
The “bend over” made me laugh and spit out my coffee. Hilarious!
You could also use vinegar and baking soda heat it up in the pan it will almost clean itself.
Poor tippy but I wonder if you have hidden mold somewhere in the house. Cats are the first to notice.
Or if you use any candles or oils cause agitated but I don’t think you use that many.
Love this style of your vids. Love hanging out with a fellow crafty gal virtually!
Would love a part 2! Found this video really helpful 😊

I looooooved this and cleaned right alongside you. Would love to see more!
Thank you for inspiring me to actually get a start on my own spring cleaning projects!
Try Nacy Birtwhistle's book about green cleaning
I really like this kind of videos and would love to see part 2.
I'm almost done reading fiber fueled by will bulsiewicz and he has some interesting facts about food insensitivities in there and also just cool stuff about properties of different plant foods 😃
Love this style of video so much! Please do a part 2 ❤
I’m going to need weekly uploads 😂 I’ve miss seeing your content and your tips on sustainability

Theres a lovely second hand craft store near where I live as well. Its a real game changer
I like this type of video, its conversational but also informative!
Yay, I'm so excited to watch this video 💛 Happy Spring 🌼
Love this type of video! Please do part two!
Honestly i would love a mending session live stream where we can all mend together!
Love this video! Cleaning, and sustainability. 😎
I just bought a composter! But with worms. Waiting for it to arrive and exited to start
I appreciate the variety in your content even if the algorithm does not ❤
I've missed you very much. Vlog style is a favorite of mine. So happy to see your face :)
Fellow Austinite! Love you and your style, you have a new sub!
Meanwhile here in Scotland.. what we call Spring and consider it finally getting warm(er) is when the temperatures rise up to 14C which is 60F 😬
I had no idea that whenever you mentioned your buy nothing group it was an actual webpage/app lol. I always thought it was like a fb group but I’m glad you showed it a bit, thank you!
A lot of them do operate as Facebook groups. Mine does.
Love my buy nothing and freecycle groups
What are ways to make your home smell good? Other than cleaning 😂 any eco friendly plug ins?
Yeeesss for a Part 2!!!👏 I love your vloggy videos! And your info videos too. Anything and everything!
Curious what your thoughts are on Rustic Strength detergent? I found them recently and their ingredients seem pretty clean and they close the loop by sanitizing and reusing containers. You can even customize your scent. I also wondered about Carina shampoo. I found both of these at a refill shop and just couldn't believe I'd never heard of them before
goo gone is the absolute gold standard! :) (coming from a teacher lol)
Use your freezer tot for your theifted clothes for 3 days in, 3 out, than in 3 day again - And no moth!
love the bangs ✨
