    What's the most innovative way you've reused a beauty product container? I'd love to hear your ideas!

      Maybe not innovative, but I reused my sugar scrub container by adding dish soap & water to catch mosquitoes, gnats, etc. They fly into the water but their wings get stuck by the soap so they can't fly & drown.
      I bought some little body wash samples on clearance & when I used them up, I cleaned them out & filled them with lotion. I put 1 in my purse, work bag, & another on my bedside table. The original lotion bottles are too big/heavy to fit in my purse, etc.

      @@LaManteca76 That's actually a fantastic way to repurpose containers and make use of items you already have! It's both eco-friendly and practical. Your mosquito trap idea is so clever! I am actually going to try to use this for small fruit flies. It's these kinds of everyday innovations that contribute to reducing waste and making life a bit more convenient. 🥰🌎

      @@AmyGood I had a roommate that used to steal my Adderall so I would hide my Adderall in the makeup containers and sometimes i would even hide them in pockets of shirts in my closet.
      I also just made Vaseline perfume from my small tester Bond samples of perfume.

    Companies should make sure that the labels on their containers should be removed without too much of trouble. Only then can people recycle them. Will help in environmental conservation

      @AmyGood  6 місяців тому +17

      Hi Annie, I completely agree with you. As consumers, we have the power to demand change. Companies should definitely make it easier to remove labels from their containers to facilitate recycling and help in environmental conservation. Hopefully, this message will spread so that people become more aware, and together we can create a better world.

    I WISH brands would start refills more. I’m so bummed that a lot of the great packaging goes to waste, meanwhile they can just sell refills. It’s less money for customers and less money for companies to spend on production of packaging.
    Even mascara, I bought one and the packaging is so nice and luxurious, I wish I could just pop a new tube of mascara into it. Makes me so sad and mad. But I’m glad to see other people reuse their packaging too. I started keeping my old bottles and just buy refills for what I can: shower gel, body oils etc.

    • @AmyGood
      @AmyGood  6 місяців тому +9

      I completely agree! It's so frustrating to see great packaging go to waste when brands could simply offer refills. I love your idea about mascara-being able to pop in a new tube would be fantastic.
      I read somewhere that makeup used to be made in refillable glass or metal containers. It wasn't until plastic became more cost-effective ( aka. cheaper to make) that companies switched to disposable packaging. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

    Some nice original reuse ideas 😊. I'm always thinking too on how to repurpose things.
    The rectangular food takeout containers are wonderful storage boxes in general & also for drawer organization. I also use the round food storage container lids under my small potted plants to catch water drain off 😊. Bottles with pump dispensers can be reused simply by rippling off the label (if possible) & putting your own label on it for your own products for uniformity & ease instead of buying pump bottles . I also learnt from another channel that you can save a laundry bottle with a pump & fill with water for portable handwashing for a picnic, camping & barbecuing. Spray nozzles from cleaning supply bottles can be reused on bottles that don't have sprayers. ❤ trying to reuse & repurpose what I have as much as possible. Thank you for your part in repurposing things that are normally seen as trash, your ideas & motivation 😊.

    Great ideas here. I keep a bag of old cosmetic containers in my vanity for when I need a travel size bottle or want to experiment with my essential oils. Nothing makes me crankier than manufacturers who make it impossible to reuse product containers -- usually by making it impossible to remove the lid. I find this with cleaning products as well, where I like to reuse spray and squirt bottles.

    I am a man that repurposes items such as coconut water bottle caps, small containers and more. I use them for homemade bait (no Chems) for ants and other pests. They work well. I live in the mountains so I am always thinking of repurposing items. I also do crafts and make things and gift them to my neighbors etc. My wife now asks if I want to save the yogurt single-serve containers, jars etc, she knows already. I have a workshop and plenty of room to store the goods. Thank you for sharing your ideas. MountainAngel CA USA

    Can the "tide" pen be used on colors because of the peroxide?

    • @AmyGood
      @AmyGood  4 місяці тому +1

      Yes, it can be used on coloured fabrics, but with caution. Hydrogen peroxide can sometimes cause mild bleaching, especially on dark colours. Before using it, do a spot test on an inconspicuous area to check for discolouration. Apply sparingly, let it sit for only a few minutes(around 3min), and rinse thoroughly to avoid any bleaching effects.

It just that they are plastic and not glass like here for the liquids so they dont last very long. The lotion containers as canisters for the bathroom like floss qtips cotton swabs or mini wipes.

      ¡Gran idea! Los recipientes cuentagotas de vidrio son perfectos para mantener fresco y fácil de aplicar el aceite capilar casero. Solo asegúrese de etiquetar cada botella para no confundirse, especialmente si tiene varios sueros y aceites. ¡De esta manera todo estará bajo control y no habrá sorpresas inesperadas! 😄

    YOU CAN REUSE CONTAINERS THE WAY YOU WANT IT'S TRUE BUT NO NEED FOR EXCESS POURING A LITTLE BIT OF HYDROGEN PEROXIDE IS ENOUGH AND WASH AS USUAL AND NEVER OPEN THE PERFUME BOTTLES UNLESS YOU DON'T NEED IT BECAUSE AFTER OPENING COMES STO AIR CONTACT AND ONCE IT COMES TO AIR CONTACT THE SHELF LIFE GETS SORTER THEN ACTUAL.

    • @AmyGood
      @AmyGood  5 місяців тому +2

      Thank you for sharing your insight. You're right-using just a little hydrogen peroxide is sufficient. Regarding perfume bottles, I appreciate the reminder. Keeping them sealed helps maintain their shelf life.

    I don't wear makeup, but I have bought a tiny pack of ziploc bags from the drugstore, each about 1.5"x 1.5", for carrying pills. They're lightweight and slip into my pocket.

      @AmyGood  7 місяців тому

      That's a great idea! Small plastic bags are indeed very convenient for carrying items like pills. I've actually discovered a recycling method to store small items, which I'll be sharing in my next recycling tip video in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

    For the rosemary hair oil treatment did you mean two tablespoons of jojoba oil, not two cups?

    • @AmyGood
      @AmyGood  7 місяців тому +1

      Yes, you're right, and I apologize for the oversight. Since I had a small bottle to fill, I only used 2 tablespoons of jojoba oil. Thank you for pointing that out!

    I have some great containers that, unfortunately, to be able to repurpose them, you end up having to break them because they're specifically made to not be refillable. Like some of my perfume bottles.

    • @AmyGood
      @AmyGood  4 місяці тому +2

      That’s frustrating, ZimVader! Some containers are definitely tricky to repurpose. For those perfume bottles, you might consider using them as decorative pieces instead (maybe with dried flower). They can add a touch of elegance to your space even when empty. Thanks for sharing! 😊

    Changing your dental floss led to costly dental bills? Or did I misread that?

    • @AmyGood
      @AmyGood  7 місяців тому +1

      Hi Rop, you read that right. The floss I was using wasn't thin enough, so it wasn't doing a good enough job cleaning, which unfortunately resulted in a costly dental bill for me. :(

    12 different beauty products a day? Not even when I was young and vain. 😮

    • @AmyGood
      @AmyGood  6 місяців тому +3

      Hi Tina! I know 12 sounds like a lot at first, but I thought about it and can easily think of at least 10 with just the basics: shampoo, conditioner, face wash, face lotion, toothpaste, sunscreen, lip balm, makeup, makeup remover, and hand lotion. Isn't that surprising? You never really think about it until you actually count them!

    Why would band aides need a container?

    • @AmyGood
      @AmyGood  5 місяців тому +1

      Sometimes it gets lost in my backpack or makeup bag. This way makes it easier to keep bandaid clean from dirt and sand. 😊

    • @MoniTablet-gm8qf

      if band aids kick around in a bag long enough the paper wrappers get ratty and rip. A container keeps them clean, dry and handy/easier to find.

      I would suggest replacing your talc powder with something natural like arrowroot powder or tapioca starch. Talc is cancer causing, which is why typical baby powders aren't on the market anymore (many lawsuits). Hope this helps.

    Since when is silk thread eco friendly?

    • @AmyGood
      @AmyGood  4 місяці тому

      Silk thread is a natural fiber, so it’s biodegradable and comes from a renewable source, which makes it more eco-friendly compared to synthetic alternatives. However, it’s important to consider the production process and choose ethically sourced silk when possible. Also, I believe most common threads are made from cotton, which is also biodegradable and more affordable than silk.

      I make all of my own toiletry products, and I spend less time/less stress than back when I was buying toxic store bought stuff. Many I make faster than I could find the health&beauty aisle. Plus it's done in the comfort of home. I save so much time in stores. Worth it in more ways than I can count. And I feel better using my own natural products. Highly recommend. Making your own quickly becomes the "new normal". I've never looked back. Hope this helps.
