I fish this creek regularly, as well as further south towards the lake... No such regulations apply, I've spoken with DNR, local Conservation (which doesn't regulate this creek) & the local bylaw office, there are absolutely no laws, rules or waterbody exemptions in this creek that state you cannot use treble hooks, lures or spinners. I did all of the research before fishing these waters, to ensure I didn't get myself in any trouble... You're just not allowed Live Bait or Lead Sinkers / drop shot etc.... These kids most likely didn't have their outdoors card / license, or there was another issue they are addressing.

@@aidanbryant4601 I've spoken with the Department of Natural Resources enforcement attachment for this area regarding this exact issue, I was told by another angler that I wasn't allowed to use treble hooks / spoons... The DNR advised me there are no specific waterbody exemptions for this particular creek (or any in the area for that matter). Meaning you can use any tackle you want, as long as its not lead.... The only regulation is regarding live bait, which is not allowed, and obviously you have to have your license / outdoors card.... They did say there may have been a regulation at some point against treble hooks on any attachment, but if there was it has been amended, and it doesn't exist anymore.

No matter what lure you use if a conservation officer sees you purposely setting the hook without a bite over and over again you are obviously trying to snag them. If you snag a fish once and reel it in then continue to do the same technique even if you are float fishing technically the conservation officer has a case no matter what you are running.

Fishing is a great way to meet people who are enjoying themselves and are open to bettering things. I don’t know if I agree with these rules I’ve never been to this spot but it seems like a silly law if you ask me what is so bad about swinging a spoon in a little pool like please show me where in the regs it says you can’t use spinners or spoons in a 4 ft deep pool

The regulations prohibit lining, so if you see a fish and cast a spoon around it (even a float rig) it is illegal. They were likely attempting to snag it. Spoons including treble hooks are allowed in this case. They are restricted in other cases but not for Salmon or in Bronte Creek.

@@dylanmounsey7515 lol okay there. Do you actually read the regulations? Probably not - police just detain someone for no reason right. Ontario law clearly states you cannot snag a fish and attempting to do so is enough for a police officer to intervene in Ontario. That is a Halton Police officer and I have seen the. enforce rules at Bronte before and the MNR also are there quite a bit. What happens in that area of Bronte is absolutely disgusting especially what people do there just for roe. That's why there is a lot of enforcement in that area.

I kind of follow your posting and can't help to notice that while most fishermen practice catch and release, you never did. What's funny though is you are quick to point the poachers to authority. So tell me, what do you do with the fish you catch? My guess is you take them home, cut them and get the roe, unless you eat the fish...Otherwise, you are like those poachers, catching the fish, cut them and get the roe. The difference is you are able to hide what you do. Be real, start releasing the fish, after all, it's sport for most. Stop giving excuses that the fish is too weak that being a reason for you to take it home. Let's not be hypocrites. And stop criticizing other people as you might be a poacher yourself.

    • @FishonFishgone

Not sure if you have noticed but most of the fishing that I'm catching I release, look at my other videos if you`ll like.
And on reporting anything to the authorities, I haven't done anything like that, not that I would when its the case but the coop suspected the kids were doing that, I was just commenting on what happened over there.
And usually, I don't release the salmons just because I can only catch them once a year...

@@FishonFishgone The fish was a male so definitely no eggs there. All of these salmon die after spawn and natural reproduction is a tiny fraction if at all. Catch and release in this situation has zero impact on the fish population.
I'd be more concerned with eating any of the PCB laced salmon out of Lake Ontario.
The issue with using weighted spoons is snagging of fish which is rampant on the river. Most fishermen who are serious about actually trying to get a fish to bite are using roe bags or flies with relatively tiny hooks. Even with this set-up an accidental snag can be common. Throwing big hardware and ripping it across a fishes back is not fishing it's an obvious attempt at poaching. Generally it's these guys who take the fish for the roe and then discard the remains on the river bank. Take a walk up from the Shell Park to the river and be disgusted with what you see.

Ross Umali if you define keeping the fish as “poaching” you really need to read the Ontario fishing regulations.

The man paid for a licence. The man caught one legally. He decides to keep it. Nothing you can do and he did nothing wrong. Personally I like to let the males go even if there is just a few females left in the river at least all the males can help to carry on the next generation of salmon. One thing I do not like is I find dead salmon with big treble hooks stuck in their gills and throat. salmon will die because of the angler failed to land it result big hooks stuck in their mouths and therefor can not breathe and they die. Should be the law to use a single hook no bigger than your small finger nail. Easier on the salmon when broken off and less expensive on the angler. Please do not waste the salmon. Be thankful smoke it, fry it or steam it or bake it and remember the great day that fish gave you.
