Cancelling doesn't exist anymore. It's a thing people claim happens, and then nothing actually does. Cancelling was a thing for two years, five years ago; now it's a word that indicates no actual punishment will follow. In another five years it will be like the hula hoop: an outdated generational trend that everyone has heard of but no one has actually seen unless they have cleaned out the garage.

As a non Asian, I respectfully and sincerely say that in all of the places on UA-cam and the Internet where I see the term used (I see it a lot) it was ONLY used as a term of endearment, never used in a derogatory, or insulting way. It was always used by someone who is a TwoSet fan identifying with, or seeking out other TwoSet community fans in the comment sections. It has been connected to the TwoSet community from around the world by people of various ethnicities, from young to old and from every race. Whenever I see it, I and others from the TwoSet community respond in a positive way acknowledging each other. I always smile when I see it because it has been a wonderful thing, something that breaks down barriers and connects people from around the globe. Of course, I have not seen every occasion when the term has been used. Nevertheless, I hope that Brett and Eddy will not change anything and we Ling Ling wannabes will hold firm and not allow this endearing term to be taken from us.
Anyone who thinks that calling a musician "Ling Ling" is racist, doesn't have any idea where it came from or what it means.
yeah. pretty sure Anti-Asian racists are not aware of the term and neither do they watch TwoSet videos or forums to run into it.
the person who said it was needs to get back on their meds.
@@elissahunt I do think you need to use the term in the right context only. If you use it with people who aren’t familiar with TwoSet, it would most definitely be perceived as racism.
@@cora6416 Perhaps, but that's their own fault for jumping to stupid conclusions. I can understand that devoid of context how someone could make that assumption. But it is dumb to leap to assumptions when you do not know the context of something.
@@5ilver42 I agree to a certain extend, but you can’t expect people not to jump to conclusions, so I believe one must be careful not to offend anyone when using controversial terms - hence why the need to use it in the right context.

Well, some people have indeed insulted me with Ling Ling before (there were also stones thrown at me) but TwoSet really made me not have such a negative association with the term anymore.

If you fly from Sydney to LAX, your day lasts 41 hours due to the 17hr time difference. Some day Brett and Eddy need to do a true 40hr challenge by practicing from midnight to midnight and while in flight.
So we need some airline to sponsor a private flight for them. Or a flight full of volunteeers who are ok listening to 40hrs of practice.
Maybe in a time of global warming it’s not a very good idea to flight 40 hours for two peoples just for fun, no? 🙂

Loved the comment about the off key fiance'. My husband hums insessantly and it's off key. My fun is to try to guess what he's humming based on the rhythm. He hums "Silent Night" from November until February when I ask him to hum something else.
When I was learning the piano as a kid the first thing my father would say to me when he got home was “have you done your practise?’ When we sat down to dinner it was “have you fed your dog?” and then when I was going to bed “have you done your homework?’ He is now 94 and actually asks me how I am and I say “well I’ve been practising the piano and feeding my dog”. Thank goodness the homework is a thing of the past.
I got a totally different answer from bing when I asked what is ling ling
“Ling Ling is actually a term usually used by Asian people to show a perfect person who is good at everything. It’s common for people, especially teenagers, being compared to other people who are better than them.”
Ling Ling is actually a term usually used by Asian people >>> I can ensure you not such a thing in China, Hongkong, Taiwan or Japan, there is a term something like " the child next door "or "someone's child" that has a simulated meaning, but not LING LING
as an asian who lived in hongkong, the first time i heard about" LING LING " was in two-set violin video
@@naoe0305 oh yeah definitely. I thought it was obvious that it was a two-set violin original character, I'm just saying, my answer from bing was totally different.
I'm from Japan, I've never heard that word before. I think I've seen a chinese restaurant with that name but I can't tell.
Btw, ChatGPT Plus answer to what is Ling Ling:
"Ling Ling" is a fictional character created by Brett Yang and Eddy Chen of the UA-cam channel TwoSetViolin. This character is often humorously referred to as a prodigiously talented violinist, embodying the ultimate level of musical skill and discipline. The term "Ling Ling" has become a running joke and a meme within the classical music community, often used to refer to an impossibly talented or over-practicing musician. For example, musicians might jokingly compare themselves or others to Ling Ling in a self-deprecating or humorous way, highlighting the extreme dedication and talent supposedly possessed by this fictional character.
It's important to note that "Ling Ling" is a purely fictional and humorous creation, and the references to this character are usually made in a light-hearted and playful context within the music community.
You'll never take LING LING away from us!!
Paganini was a master guitarist and he used the guitar as help in composing for violin as well. I think if he wasn't arguably the greatest violinist ever, he would've been remembered as one of the greatest guitarists ever. His violin playing was such on another level though, that it overshadowed the heights he also achieved on the guitar. What a great musician he was.
yes, on guitar he got overdshadowed by Mauro Giuliani, the actual Paganini of guitar

Imma be upfront: Ling Ling is RACIAL, but it is NOT RACIST. Racism implies hatred being the motivation behind actions, words, or systems. Racial implies that something is cultural.
Ling Ling is an Asian name; it is a term invented by two Asian-Australian musicians; the definition is to identify children and adults who have trained since very young to become very talented musicians. XD
Its like when people say “There’s always an asian better than you”. Its not meant to be racist, its meant to poke light fun at people who are better than you. Obviously that includes non-Asians but the joke derives from the highly competitive atmosphere of Asian schooling where everyone competes to be the top.
Or like when the N word is said by the black community, is not racist. It's only racist when people outside of that community uses it.
@@laum5371
I dont know if the N word is comparable since saying it outside of the community is a big no-no while Ling Ling is allowed within people who know the joke/meaning. Its more akin to nerd as it has a less impactful history behind it
@@seraphywang4638 I dont think that is proper for someone outside the asian community or the joke inside this channel to say it? Cause it's either a intent to hurt or pure ignorance. The n word has more levity but lets not pretend that asian racism is not as dangerous
@@laum5371
Honestly, as an asian, I dont care much if someone jokes around about LingLing. Sorta like when non-asian people say “There’s always a asian better than you.” I know its a joke and not intended to be racist or disrespectful in any way. Sure, its a racial stereotype but jokes can be based off of stereotypes without people getting massively offended like snowflakes. These jokes are nowhere close to as bad as the history of the N word. It can be annoying but it really isnt worth dealing like its serious
I used to work in a musical theatre, the amount of books I read while in the pit is insane. Woodwinds and brass players were watching football matches, netflix, etc. I was always wary of having my phone in the pit with me, but I always had my kindle or a physical book.
Many of the people I played in community theatre pits with were also teachers, and the number of us that got marking done during rehearsals and performances was wild. The summer shows were always during report card season, and as each person got theirs done we'd have little mini (and silent) celebrations.

BUT, i didn´t knew them for a long time
I'll say though, as a guitarist, most Paganini's guitar pieces are (mostly) doable if not easy because back then guitar was reserved for noblewomen and, since most of them were mediocre, most guitar pieces Paganini composed were dedicated to them because he was a Don Giovanni. I always say "Paganini is an angel with guitarist and a devil with violinist. Besides, there's already a "Paganini of guitar", as he was called back in those days, Mauro Giuliani, he was friends with Beethoven, Rossini and Paganini and all went to eachother's concerts. Check out pieces like "la Grande Ouverture", "Gran sonata eroica" and "Rossiniana n. 1"

He wasn’t in there at the same time though, just same school. I go to the same school Ray Chen went to 😊
Your bro and I went to the same school lmao I went to the same school as eddy as well
why'd you and your brother go to different highschools?
@@oxoelfoxo idk, parents. Parents wanted me to go to private school for some reason (i protested against it but what can you do)
"How dare you parody your own culture!" -that one guy
Similar thing is when white guy puts on sombrero and Mexican stache - everyone but Mexicans are feeling abused💀
That’s right, my mom used to love some of Paganini’s guitar pieces! She borrowed a CD of some performed from the library for a “music class,” and then ended up borrowing it many more times because she got so into it herself
Brett's Bingbing clapback is clever 😭😭😭
I havent watched a video in a while, so I'm gonna pretend all that time counted as practice. Yay! Now I can watch this!
Bach's Toccata and Fugue being the only organ piece Twoset knows😂.
Ling Ling and Sing Sing were famous baby pandas when I was a kid. That is the only context in which I have ever heard it.
Ill never give up asking them to make a video on this:
Review Videos of: Instruments are Never Animated Correctly.
Would like to see your take on those videos
tbh i need another ‘brother’ from brett’s lofi! I have an idea for the challenge : put a 4 music genres (like pop, jazz, edm, bossanova i guess?) that will mix with classical influence. And 4 classical composers for inspiration/influences style. Also 4 prompts about idea/situation for lyrics (if they write lyric and sing it!) and also working in different room to make it more interesting! Please make it true twoset🥺🫶🏻
p.s : i really heard brett’s lofi for study and sleeping while eddy’s lofi when i go somewhere
Great to see you guys in the studio again! Too damned funny, as always. Love your rapport and irreverance. Never change.
