If it's not leaking and just doesn't put out heat, first check that the air flap is working. If the core is plugged up you can usually clear them out. Pull the hoses off and blow it out with water and compressed air alternating back & forth on both connections using air and water and it should clear up.

I have a 96XJ that the blend door is not working. Can I access it without removing half the dash or the heater?

I just did a 96'. Drop the steering wheel down but do not remove the clam shell(no need). You can leave the bezel, the radio and the heater control box in the dash. Just remove the right side dash and leave the left side attached(it moves a lot(plenty). The blower motor doesn't need to come out(works good as a hand hold). You don't need to remove the center console. Otherwise do everything else pretty much like Everyday-XJ did. Good video. Thank you. Helped a lot.

Changed the core on my 2001 Cherokee about a month ago. Lots of work, took about 9 hours start to finish. Now that I've done it once, could probably do it again in one third less time. Nothing that an experienced do it yourself mechanic can't do, but it is a danged lot of work. Basically you're removing the entire dashboard. Wouldn't want to do it again, but I'd rather do it myself than pay someone else to do it.
I was told that the mid 90's Mustangs had a lot of heater core problems, and the dealerships quoted 3 days labor to replace them. :0

+John Collins the heatercore on a Foxbody is such a S.O.B. that most mustang users bypass the heatercore altogether. It requires complete removal of the dash and other stuff to get to it.

I had the heater core on my '88 Cherokee replaced almost 10 years ago. I read up on it and it says you have to discharge the A/C. I killed two birds with one stone and had the A/C system converted over to R-134a.

I've been an auto mechanic for 35 years and I have done numerous heater cores for Jeeps in this year range. An experienced tech with 10 years experience is lucky to shave 3 hours off the time for this service. That you think you could do so after just one replacement is telling indeed.

@@pedroestrada1017 I've done probably 50 heater cores in fox body mustangs. Can do 1 in about 3 1/2 hours.
