The feeling of playing before there was a season was an unreal feeling. I don't know how to describe it, makes me want to go back and try to win a game for the first time again.
This video was uploaded before the official free release of Fortnite Battle Royale in September 26, 2017. Meaning this guy bought Save The World in late July for $60 and at this time Battle Royale was only a bonus mode included that wasn't initally intended to be the main mode, this video is truly a time capsule of days long gone.
When I was 8 in March of 2018 I thought you still had to buy the game when I heard about it so I waited a week until my dad took my brother and I to GameStop just for the employee to say “It’s free.” To me that was crazy because I never heard of a free video game.

Definitively should've added a build cooldown as well. That way both casual players and more sweaty gamers could switch between both maps and stay engaged... But I don't like the Fortnite that added 100 different gimmicks, I like the simple Fortnite: A chill battle royale game with a slight building gimmick. And I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one there

They tried to bring the og map back but it doesn’t feel the same although it’s accurate. The colouring used in 2017 can’t be used again cuz epic deleted the whole Chapter 1 file. For the new one
@@Gomu_1 They didn't delete it, the OG map and game was built in Unreal Engine 4, the game was updated to Unreal Engine 5 in Chapter 2, they can import the OG Map and it's parts, but thats just the models and whatnot, it's still using the Chapter 4 settings. If they wanted to rebuild OG in UE5 they can, it just is more work than they want as they have other plans.
The old default skins, the old default axe, the old dying animation, the old map, the old healthbar, the old guns, the old building physics, the old graphics, the old skins, its beautiful.

This game had a campaign before a battle Royale so I’m sure there is older clips out there, might be the oldest for battle Royale but probably not for Fortnite

@@seva7500 it did tho, old fortnite is literally how it got to it's massive player base today. it was just as popular when it first came out as it is now. there was 10 million players in the first 2 weeks of release of BR in 2017. back then, having that size of playerbase and hype while not even being a AAA game title was basically unheard of. not to mention it was one of the first battle royale games, the other ones at the time (pubg and h1z1) both costed money. The fact that it was basically a new genre, had a distinctive art style, was F2P, and could be ran on crappy computers was what helped make it so popular back then. fortnite really defined and popularized the genre of game that is now massively popular with newer titles like Warzone... "new" fortnite is really not much different at all, they just market more towards children because it is so accessible and every kid nowadays has an ipad, switch, xbox or pc

There was no auto pick up so if you were out in the open it could be sketchy trying to pick everything up lol. No turbo building either so it took forever just to swap between build pieces to make cover
I think what's sad about this, is there's literally nothing Epic can do to recreate this feeling, not even bringing everything back, reverting the graphics, no turbo building... Because the point was the thrill of discovering a new game, the unknown, everyone being lowkey noobs. There's just no way to bring that back.
No but it would still be cool to have the same sound effects (old scar shooting sound) the same weapon icons in the inventory, sound effects when picking up weapons, damaging another player with shield, shooting wood structures such as trees, the almost pixelated glow radiating from weapons on the ground, etc.. STW still has the sound effects when picking up weapons & materials and when you get damaged with shield, but it is a lot more quiet than it used to be.
I personally prefer watching the mechanics and pros that play nowadays... I can understand that nostalgia hits hard but honestly I have always enjoyed watching how this games goes more and more crazy with the movements and other stuff

Man i absolutely love the old sounds from the game... the small jingle when you get a new weapon, the sound effects from people shooting from far away, and the old sounds when you hit something with the pickaxe, these are great sounding, idk why epic just removed them :(

I remember 3 seasons after my first game i won in season 5 for the first time in paradise palms. I also remember sweating profusely and shaking and I immediately took a picture
Weirdly, the anxiety I feel in this video is my favorite part. The amount of times building double stairs would have won him every fight in a second, or just forgetting to loot or reload, or look behind him lol... I miss these times, and know they will never return. Just like MMORPG's being $15 a month and no microtransactions to get max level or boosted. Nostalgia is a powerful drug.

I'm glad that the zero build mode is permanent (for now), helps bring back those unreal moments of tranquillity of running through open land, hearing distant gunshots. Something about those early moments when everyone went from one hiding spot to another instead of building the twin towers in 1 second
yeah zero build focuses a lot more on using natural cover and properly using movement to dodge things, honestly its the only way i can even get a solo win now because 99% of players in build have spent way too much time playing this game

I really miss the old feel of Fortnite. The sound effects pick ups, the way the game looked. Everything. Now it just feels less unique even with having all the content it does

I still remember people coming up with building strats back during those times. Not the "build a whole ass skyscraper in 1 second" type of strats, but genuine forts for endgame where stability mattered first and foremost. Fortnite was such a breath of fresh air with its creative approaches, before the inevitable sweat mentality popped off among the community.
You should try no build mode. This video's gameplay feels pretty similar to S5 Ch1 & 2 no build (without as much sniper use). The game has changed significantly though in S5C3. However, playing a game as a child is much different from playing it as an adult. Even if everything besides the map was to be reverted back to the original game, it would still not be the same game. You've changed as much as fortnite has.

It was the perfect game, it gave you a fuzzy warm cozy feeling, pre reason 3 fortnite had so much soul, you could feel the love & passion they put in to it, OG fortnite is definitely in the top 5 multiplayer games, but they had to sellout to 9 year olds like every franchise.

@@seva7500 it did tho, old fortnite is literally how it got to it's massive player base today. it was just as popular when it first came out as it is now. there was 10 million players in the first 2 weeks of release of BR in 2017. back then, having that size of playerbase and hype while not even being a AAA game title was basically unheard of. not to mention it was one of the first battle royale games, the other ones at the time (pubg and h1z1) both costed money.
The fact that it was basically a new genre, had a distinctive art style, was F2P, and could be ran on crappy computers was what helped make it so popular back then. fortnite really defined and popularized the genre of game that is now massively popular with newer titles like Warzone... "new" fortnite is really not much different at all, they just market more towards children because it is so accessible and every kid nowadays has an ipad, switch, xbox or pc

the game wasn’t trying to be anything at this time. it was what it was. a fun, simple side project to save the world. a shockingly coherent, creative incorporation of the battle royale concept into a game that just happened to be the perfect marriage. the beauty in this version of the game is in its simplicity, in how bare bones it is, it’s in its purest form. games must evolve to remain relevant, but this version of this game is so special.

I think what's sad about this, is there's literally nothing Epic can do to recreate this feeling, not even bringing everything back, reverting the graphics, no turbo building... Because the point was the thrill of discovering a new game, the unknown, everyone being lowkey noobs. There's just no way to bring that back.
No but it would still be cool to have the same sound effects (old scar shooting sound) the same weapon icons in the inventory, sound effects when picking up weapons, damaging another player with shield, shooting wood structures such as trees, the almost pixelated glow radiating from weapons on the ground, etc.. STW still has the sound effects when picking up weapons & materials and when you get damaged with shield, but it is a lot more quiet than it used to be.
I personally prefer watching the mechanics and pros that play nowadays... I can understand that nostalgia hits hard but honestly I have always enjoyed watching how this games goes more and more crazy with the movements and other stuff

Weirdly, the anxiety I feel in this video is my favorite part. The amount of times building double stairs would have won him every fight in a second, or just forgetting to loot or reload, or look behind him lol... I miss these times, and know they will never return. Just like MMORPG's being $15 a month and no microtransactions to get max level or boosted. Nostalgia is a powerful drug.

I'm glad that the zero build mode is permanent (for now), helps bring back those unreal moments of tranquillity of running through open land, hearing distant gunshots. Something about those early moments when everyone went from one hiding spot to another instead of building the twin towers in 1 second
yeah zero build focuses a lot more on using natural cover and properly using movement to dodge things, honestly its the only way i can even get a solo win now because 99% of players in build have spent way too much time playing this game

I really miss the old feel of Fortnite. The sound effects pick ups, the way the game looked. Everything. Now it just feels less unique even with having all the content it does
I prefer this style too but that’s really just nostalgia talking. The definition of unique is something new and has not been replicated before. Cartoon style Pubg with building isn’t all that unique compared to now. The better way to describe the new season is overwhelming and over complicated

I still remember people coming up with building strats back during those times. Not the "build a whole ass skyscraper in 1 second" type of strats, but genuine forts for endgame where stability mattered first and foremost. Fortnite was such a breath of fresh air with its creative approaches, before the inevitable sweat mentality popped off among the community.

You should try no build mode. This video's gameplay feels pretty similar to S5 Ch1 & 2 no build (without as much sniper use). The game has changed significantly though in S5C3. However, playing a game as a child is much different from playing it as an adult. Even if everything besides the map was to be reverted back to the original game, it would still not be the same game.
You've changed as much as fortnite has.
Seeing this video has some sort of calming effect, seeing how much everything has changed, from visuals, to gameplay, even the damn sound even the way players handle the game, i love current fortnite but this is such a dream

It’s astonishing how far the game has downgraded since Season 2, why couldn’t they just keep the game like this. The sounds, the map, the graphics, the colour palette, the skins & especially the glowing items which would radiate its color. It was the perfect game, it gave you a fuzzy warm cozy feeling, pre reason 3 fortnite had so much soul, you could feel the love & passion they put in to it, OG fortnite is definitely in the top 5 multiplayer games, but they had to sellout to 9 year olds like every franchise.

it's far from the most primitive, there's 2011 footage. if it's on ps4, it's been far in development

@@yikes710yeah there was footage from 2011, FROM THE DEVELOPERS, for a different version of the game unrelated to the Battle Royale that wasn't set to release for 6 more years.
It's pretty much as primitive as it gets for real players playing the real game after its real release date.

@@yikes710 buddy I have news for you, the update that added Battle Royale was the EXACT same day the game entered early access on playstation. September 26th, 2017. Look it up if you don't believe me.
I'd also like to add that no, there is NOT 2011 footage. There was a *trailer*, but the game was still in the planning phase at that point. There was no gameplay because there was no game.
