Cheers for posting Paul haven't been to Westbury since the days of diesel hydraulics and out at the flyover too.Enjoy Weymouth there's a information board now where the line went across the road by the petrol station down to the ferry.👍👍

I did a Lost Railway Walk from Weymouth looking at four other disused lines in the area, but not the Weymouth Quay one, as that one as been done so many times before on YT. I did see the new information panel near the garage and the B&Q shed; that's where I started my walk. Cheers, Paul

Thank you Michael! Yes, I filmed two videos in Dorset recently - and this one en route! Been meaning to have a good look around here for sometime. There is quite a lot to this station, and most of it is still original from its rebuild in the early 1900s, which is most unusual these days. Glad you liked the tour. Take care, Paul

This triggered a memory of an advert in a broadsheet - half a page recruiting train drivers based at Westbury back in 2000 - the salary was extremely good at £30,000+ - now wages are in the news again! I realised Westbury must be an important station on the line!! Thanks Paul.
Thank you Diana! Yes, it is where a lot of the GWR drivers are based, I think. I am glad that the whole rail strike thing has now been resolved though. It is an interesting place - I think that there were a lot of mills in the area too. Take care, Paul
Westbury looks in better shape than when I last visited in the 1980's and spent a rather forgettable hour or so wandering about. I suspect it may be rather busier these days too.
Thanks Malcolm! I think it had a revamp a few years ago. Both waiting rooms are in excellent condition, and a great cafe/newsagent stall on platforms 2 & 2. I think the platform canopy awnings were repainted, as well as the underpass completely redone with new lifts as well, I think and a new entrance/ticket hall lobby. Overall, it is most impressive. So good to see! Very frequent trains too to lots of different places. Must be one of the best rail connected towns in the south & south west of the UK. Cheers, Paul
Hi Paul that was all very interesting to see. What a wet day! It’s nice to be in a busy junction with lots going on. I haven’t been to Westbury for years and it’s too far away now. You mentioned Merehead and we went there on a rail tour once and a specially constructed platform had been put in place for us to get off. I’m not sure if we went from Westbury or Cranmore on the East Somerset railway and had a tour round the quarry. There were about 5 x 9F engines there all steaming which was very impressive. Have you done a tour of the East Somerset railway? Would be nice to see that again too. Kind regards.
Oh gosh! I would have loved to have gone on a railtour to Merehead Quarry (or Whateley Quarry) - you can't get near those places now for high fences and higher security. I have filmed the East Somerset Railway twice on my UA-cam Channel Marilyn - the last time was last December, it is a lovely little heritage line, but probably not as good as it was in David Shepherd's day. However, you can do something there you can't on any other heritage railway - you can do a self tour of their railway sheds and workshops. No other railway allows you to do that. You can find my East Somerset Railway videos in my 'Railways' Playlist. Westbury Station is such a delight as it has scarcely changed (apart from the trains themselves) in over 100 years. Rare, these days! Thank you for watching 😊
The rain did (finally!) stop towards the end of the day in Weymouth. I think just above Leominster is the furthest north I have been for a very long time. Never been to Liverpool, but I did go to Chester in the late 1960s, when it was grubbier, I think, than it is now. It is all Hollyoaks and Footballer's Wives there now, isn't it? ! 😃

Interesting vid, brings back memories of having an hour between trains when travelling from Portsmouth to South Devon & vice versa back in the 90's. I don't think there was a coffee shop there then but I was certainly glad of the waiting room in to get out of the winter weather.
It was a murky morning, but what a great tour around the station. I wouldn't have known what the hose was for.

I know that station quite well having to change there to get to Trowbridge and Weymouth in the past .
I quite like changing trains here - it has a less hurried feel to it - and the coffee is superb.
