In today's episode, we bring you on our stunning road trip from Queenstown to Wanaka and then to Twizel, a small town next to Lake Pukaki and New Zealand's tallest mountain Mount Cook / Aoraki. As you can tell from the video, we're just mildly obsessed with New Zealand🤣😭😩
We are Oskar & Dan, two boys from Sweden who decided to change the course of our lives, drop out of university, and live life full-time🧔🏻👱🏻♂️ We've been together for eight years and have been traveling together pretty much since day one✈️ We're trying to see and learn as much about the world as possible before we settle down somewhere in the world👨👨👧👦 In 2022, we completed our goal of visiting 100 countries at the age of 25🌍 Check our UA-cam About page for more details👨🏼🤝👨🏻❤️

New Zealand was country 100🌍
We began our trip in Queenstown before making our way up the South Island to Wanaka, Lake Pukaki, Mount Cook, Lake Tekapo, Christchurch, Bank's Peninsula and more. We then hopped over to the North Island to finish the trip in Auckland and the surrounding areas. We can't wait to show you the rest of the videos from the trip!
Thank you for watching!🙏😍
0:00-0:26 Intro
0:27-2:39 Lunch in Wanaka (obsessed with a public toilet lmao)
2:40-5:17 Our epic AirBnB (middle of NOWHERE)
5:18-6:38 In awe at this lake (Lake Pukaki)
6:39-7:30 An unexpected overnight visitor and our chaotic laundry process
7:31-8:30 Thai food with a view
8:31-12:25 Hiking by Mount Cook (tallest mountain in NZ!)
12:26-13:15 Time to move on...
Thank you guys for always being the best supporters❤ Can't wait to continue sharing this journey through life with you all!
For the people going "NZ is 21 hours ahead of California, not 3!!" - yes, but obviously our bodies can't tell the difference, we're talking about jet lag🥱

Even the most remote public toilets in NZ are spotless. I was in a middle of nowhere town with one gas station, three houses, no people passing through and one public toilet. Absolutely amazing. I'm so happy to call NZ my new home!
To be honest with you guys. Not all of New Zealand feels like Switzerland especially the North Island which is way different by a country mile. Sure it feels like Switzerland if you're in the South Island only and hence the mountain ranges we have there like the Southern Alps and the Kaikoura ranges as well as Lake Tekapo and around Queenstown and Blenheim you can clearly feel like you are in Switzerland, Austria or in the regions of Asturias or Cantabria in Northern Spain given the topography of the region. And then if you venture out to Fiordland and Franz Josef Glaciers, you will instantly feel like you're in Norway or Iceland, the difference is you're in the southern hemisphere. Charot. LOL.😄🤭
Charot? Hahaha thought you’re pinoy 😂🎉 Chariz 😂😂😂
@@mylesaway79 haha Pinoy ako pero half ako. 🙈🤭 kaya charing lage. LOL
Hello from New Zealand! New Zealand is 1 day ahead of San Fran.
Our bodies can't tell the difference🙂 Doesn't matter if it's 3 or 21 hours😉
For me, New Zealand gave me a whole new impression of the color green! So lush and beautiful!
there is a 3 hour time difference on the clock between Ca and NZ, it just happens to be two completely different days LOL, but I get your point. These NZ vlogs have been my favorite by far!
Haha was about to comment the same thing
Yes, but our bodies don't know the difference😉 Thanks Darren!
@@OskarandDan My annual joke with my American online friends every new year is to tell them that they are so last year and living in the past lol, I know it very "dad joke" but I just can't resist
The AirBNB was at a perfect location 😍 It looks so relaxing and calming! Definitely adding NZ to my travel list!
Loving New Zealand, thanks for sharing, you look really happy, it's contagious
So glad you guys enjoyed your time touring the South Island. Next time you go back, explore the North Island, it's a little more about the beaches, coasts, rainforests, islands and Maori Culture. I can highly recommend a visit to the East Coast, Gisborne region (where I'm from) ☺
We spent a few days in and around Auckland at the end - hope we can see even more soon🙏
East cape is one of the top 5 places I’ve been, absolutely stunning (in summer). I can’t remember the name of where we stayed but it was the one the giant pier.
@@joshuav9005 that will most likely be Tolaga Bay
@@MrJadeDoel yes that’s the one! Definitely wanna move there when I retired.
Ruru falls,best fun ever
Many things make New Zealand the most beautiful place on Earth. Never forget the people, the diversity, Māori heritage and visitors like you.
Aww Oskar and Dan!! I'm so glad you both had an awesome time in New Zealand 💖💖💖 NZ is pretty diverse landscape wise but also culturally too. Other than the South Island with mountains and glaciers, there's some awesome beaches and rainforests in the North Island too - with also a strong presence of Māori and Pacific Island cultures as New Zealand has one of the largest Pacific Island communities in the world with the majority living in our biggest city Auckland.
We hope you enjoyed your time in the South Island!
G'day Oskar & Dan. Loved the video. I had to laugh at your pronuncations of Wanaka and Twizel. We were in that area only a few weeks before you and did the Hooker Valley Walk. You had better weather than us, we had four seasons in one day. Glad you are loving NZ it is a great place to live.
The top of the South Island is the most spectacular! It’s like being in a tropical paradise! It’s sad that a lot of tourists miss the top and only do the bottom. So worth while going the top of South Island
Around Nelson and the Marlborough province is wonderful.
So pleased you went to Twizel; I have such fond memories of Twizel, so many beautiful holiday's there and day trips around the surrounding areas.
Such a serene place for you guys to visit. I'm so happy for you both.
Check out Great Barrier island off the east coast of Auckland! It is amazing
Beautiful scenery and the colors are amazing!
I can feel how fresh the air in New Zealand is just by watching this video 💚🥰
Super engaging v-log guys. I'm glad you enjoyed your time here in Aotearoa NZ. Your positivity is fantastic!
WOW! I didn't know, New Zealand had so many mountains! I hope I also get to explore this beautiful country sometime. Greetings from Switzerland :)
Kia ora ( Hello) hiaeri Mai welcome. Come to NZ whenever you want. We'll be delighted to see ya
@@chrismckellar9350 actually NZ is 268000 square kms the UK excluding Ireland is just over 270000 kms2
@@chrismckellar9350 which is completely blown out of the water if you take into account that the UK includes southern ireland and the jersey isles just to name a few. Not to mention the Isle of Man.
@@chrismckellar9350 my point is that if you include all the small coastal islands of both countries the UK comes out on top. Yes I made a blunder, I ment Northern Ireland. You also have the inner and outer Hebrides. NZ has roughly 600 coastal islands. Off hand I think Thiers almost that many surrounding the UK. Gibraltar is also technically part of the UK along with the Falkland islands
@@chrismckellar9350 I agree NZ south Island is the 11 th largest on the planet and the north Island 14th. NZ is bigger than most people think. However you can fit NZ into the continental us over 30 times and then Thiers Russia which covers 11 time zones
It looks so great. A destination I would love to explore one day. Have fun and continue to amaze us. Thank you!!!
Absolutely delightful video, chock-full of breathtaking vistas of New Zealand.😍 The cinematography is top-notch, and it's evident that you put a great deal of care and attention into capturing the essence of this beautiful country.
Wishing you both all the best in your future endeavors, and keep up the fantastic work! Eagerly waiting for the next episode 😍 🙌
Thank you so much❤️❤️
You must be kidding about time, that could be with next day in NZ. However the series is very very lovely💐
Doesn't matter if it's 21 or 3 hours, it does the same to the body.
Loved the vlog. I agree in many aspects New Zealand does appear similar to the Nordics. Our prime minister(Finnish) just visited New Zealand and Sanna Marin said the same - but not only of landscape, but of people(s) and culture as well.
Edit: the landscape is obviously different lol With Norway and it's fjords, Sweden with it's rural landscape and Finland with our never-ending lakes.
New Zealand has incredible fjords, numerous stunning lakes and tranquil rural farmlands too. The scenery is incredibly diverse. 😍
@@FromtheWindowSeat I will visit New Zealand soon when I can allot the time and money to do so - it seems beautiful and I haven't heard nothing but positive things from my fiends who have visited😄
I missed the lake country on my tour of the south island. Now I know I have to go back. Thank you!
I live in New Zealand I’m glad you like it
Guys!!! An Aussie here who goes nearly every year on 1-2 week solo trips! You missed THE most beautiful part of NZ. The west coast. You went up thr middle but next time you haveeeeee to go up Through thr lands borough valley through fox and Franz Josef glaciers, hokitika etc. Go in Sept/October it’s honestly thr most beautiful part of the world and NZ. And I’ve also travelled the world and done Switzerland, England, Scotland etc! Enjoy guys!
My bestie is a New Yorker, and she spends six months in NZ every year. She works in New York then works via internet when she is here. She’s been doing it for about 20 years now. Best of both worlds
That sounds like our dream life!🥲
It’s pronounced Tw (eye) zel. The rabbits are a giant pest to farmers. They have regular culls. My ancestors settled near Wānaka in 1860s from the UK. I’m glad I can go on this free journey with you lol.
It’s great to see a fellow kiwi 😊
I must get back to AUS/NZ soon. From home in northern California, it really is easier than many trips to Europe. Congrats on this milestone.!
It does have a bit of Switzerland vibes!
SO Happy for you both ,not just your 100th destination, but,you gotbto spend your anniversary here, even if not doing what you'd booked. That hike looked magical as did the lake,I'm afraid I kept hearing a B instead of P at beginning of its name & was very relieved when you kindly put a subtitle!
Though I've never been, you've only confirmed everything I'd heard about the beauty of NZ. Such a great place to raise kids, can totally see you both, taking yours hiking etc in this paradise. As ever very best wishes to you&yours 💥👊❤💯💙💙👌⭐'s💯👋✌
SF is actually a 21 hour difference to NZ. Might be 3 hours on a clock, but a day behind on the calendar.
I grew up in Twizel. Best place ever! Enjoyed watching and seeing all the scenery I love ❤️
It looks beautiful. I just don't know if I can bring myself to be on a plane for that long!! (from St. Louis, USA)
Awww bless you two and your pronunciation. Say it as Twyzel. I’ve lived in NZ for 13 years, originally from the UK, but has been coming to NZ regularly before I moved here. The night skies in Pukaki are word legendary. I live in the middle of the north island which is as lovely, the farther north you travel it becomes more sub tropical
NZ is awesome. Good to see you had some rather fine weather😁
Love your vlogs so much! 💯💯💯
Lots of love back Adam❤️
Dan, you must be tall as your head almost touches the ceiling of your hotel room. lol. Hi Oskar hi Dan.
Point to remember there is a 21hour time difference between SFO and New Zealand. Noon on Sunday in SFO is 9:00am Monday in New Zealand
Yes but our bodies don't care, same jet lag
AS ALWAYS, YOUR TRAVELOGS ARE TRULY AMAZING THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING. john xoxoxo
Thanks for visiting my beautiful country guys - your pronunciation of our townships is hilarious (in a good way!). I hope we get to see more of your NZ adventures - the South Island is definitely the best part and when you come back you have to revisit the cancelled trip to Milford Sound. Even as a Kiwi I was blown away by the beauty there.
We tried our best with the place names🤣 Your country is stunning!
Great video and love the NZ content! Now that you visited 100 countries, are you going to make a ranking video of your top 10 favorite?
Maybe we'll make a Short!
Hey guys great video 📸😊
Welcome to N.Z. Next time come and spend some time in the North Island too. I hope you had a great time 👍
This is one of the best parts of NZ.. which is full of amazing parts. Photos & videos really don't do Lake Pukaki justice. So stunning. Glad you enjoyed my home country.. fun fact, the South Island is known to locals as "The Mainland" 😁
The color of the lake truly can't be captured!
Have you guys been trying the wine? Lots of great wine and great value too!
Oskar and Dan is like rice and beans, you’re channel is my comfort food
AAAW that is probably the best comment we've ever received?!🥺
@@OskarandDan Thank you so much!
The sceneries are superb 🥺
New Zealand is one of my dream countries that I want to visit. Greetings from Thailand 👋
To be pedantic it’s technically a 21 hour time difference 🤓 but also flying that way is the closest you can get to time travel so 🤷🏼♂️
Our bodies don't know the difference between 3 and 21 hours😉
@@OskarandDan very fair 👀 time travelers bodies are built different clearly!
You had perfect weather for Mt Cook National Park! I have been living in NZ for 5 years now, been to the park twice and had cloudy weather so I have never seen the mountain 😂
Oh no! We were lucky then despite the drizzle!!
You must visit 👉 east java. ..mount bromo, mount ijen, tumpak sewu waterfall
Shania Twain once had a lodge property at Wanaka.
Time difference is roughly 21 hours I think guys and we are a day ahead of San Fran. I think you worked on GMT in England. Alpine plants are so different and extremely hardy. One exclusive thing, no predators to worry about. South and North Island are 2 different landscapes, both feed the eyes, however I do prefer the West Coast, the Catlins and Milford Sounds in the South Island for scenic beauty.
As an expat kiwi wanderer, am stoked you love Aotearoa so much. Am falling in love with my homeland just watching your enjoyment. And LOL at how you say place names (my attempt at Swedish names would be more woeful though!), especially Twizzle (like sizzle). Did any of the locals put you straight?
No they were too polite not to correct us😭
Twy zel,Twizel. . .
Wow enjoy wonderful place
Solid Supporter here Philippines Mr Adventure Mix 😊
I live in new zealand and IVE BEEN TO PUKAKI ON THE WAY TO TWIZEL AND I KNOW MOUNT COOK
Un grand bonjour du Maroc Superbe Vidéo . Waaaaaaaaw notre planète comme elle est sublime . Merci pour le partage .🤩🤩🤩
Is it worth the so-much-longer flight, when you could just go back to Switzerland?
(OTOH: Ocean!)
BTW, if you live in the States, spend time in the Rockies. Brainard Lake Recreation Area near Boulder is amazing and a bit less crowded than Rocky Mountain National Park.
(And, of course, please visit us in Tucson!)
My weekly dose of serotonin booster. 😅😘
The “wan” in Wanaka is pronounced like the start of “want” and the rest is like “ikka” if that makes sense. Twizel is like Twyzel, even our non-Māori names get tourists confused 😂.
The Wanaka pronunciation was funny !
I’m glad someone mentioned it
Yeah I had to think where is twizzle
They're actually pronouncing Wānaka the correct way. Twizel not so much
Waa na ka
Lake Pukaki was stunning, but was it only me who thought Oskar said a word beginning with B 😮😂 Sorry to lower the tone
The First and Love From Germany!
Thanks for taking us to another beautiful country! May I ask which camera of your iPhones are you shooting with? The front or rear camera? Quality is so good. I wanna know how to achieve this kind of video with an iPhone.
Always the back camera! Wide angle is your friend :)
Another Fab video guys. Hey, as an amateur video maker myself, I'm very keep to see how you did the animation of the white line driving the route in between wanaka and twizel. Could you share ? Is there a video yo could point me to ? Thanks so much
Thanks! It's Geolayers in After Effects :)
Beautiful video. Does Hookers valley hike come before you reach Mt Cook? Is it in between Lake Tekapo and Mt cook?
It starts up at the Mt Cook Village
Hahhah! this is so funny! I've lived in Wanaka for most all of my life the fact you went there just seems so unreal...
It's a beautiful place🙌😍
you should of gone to lake tekapo instead. the water is so blue and the town is so friendly
So jealous, I've always wanted to do the hooker valley track!
Also makes me laugh a bit the way you pronounce some of the place names. 🤣
We clearly need a Kiwi pronunciation guide🤣🥲
@@OskarandDan Haha, I honestly would've pronounced them the same way if I were you guys too 😊
I think we know where you guys will spend your honeymoon 🤩
we have those toilets in Canberra - Australia
It's not that far!! Auckland is actually closer to LA than Sydney. I fly back and forth to LA direct to Sydney often.
So pleased you are enjoying your time here. Just recently came across your channel, ( gotta love the UA-cam gods) was that place you stayed in on one of the farming stations? If you thought the road to paradise was a long time, how did you find the drive into Mt Cook/Aorangi?
It was a standalone house, no real farms in the vicinity! And the drive was incredible😍
Looks like 1 of the many airbnb's on Manuka Terrace out the back of twizel
Guys please sun screen… nz summer . ❤❤❤
Every day!
Hi guys, you kinda can't compare NZ with Switzerland as far as beauty goes, for NZ is not landlocked giving nz the upper hand with their beautiful white sand surf beaches, well done NZ, take care guys👍
Go to auckland 🤩
Another great video guys! Thank you! I’m surprised that, given your native homeland is so gorgeous, that you are so impressed with NZ’s beauty. Of course it IS beautiful but so is your country!! I’d be really keen to know in which countries you DIDN’T enjoy all your time and why please.
Cheers from Marg in Australia
Sweden is beautiful but not nearly as dramatic as the NZ scenery🙏 - We can't really say openly when we don't like a country not to piss off an entire population, but you can usually tell in our videos if you look for subtle signs😂
@@OskarandDan Lol! Oh okay, fair enough. You seem to purposely go to places only when it’s summer. As Swedes, obviously you are used to the cold, so do you just not like cooler weather. I’m the opposite, I can’t deal with hot weather and so always travel to countries in autumn/ winter! Cheers,
Marg
Any plans on Australia tour? Did you guys already do one, might have missed it 😊
We did but before we made videos! We have plans on returning soon though😍
3 hour time difference between San Fran and New Zealand. I think you’re a bit confused. Isn’t it 21 hours?
Haha yep, they are a day ahead
Exactly what I was going to say. I think they forgot that the international date line is between NZ and San Francisco!
Guys, our bodies don't care if it's 21 or 3 hours😂
Living in New Zealand 🇳🇿 The ultimate tourist mecca. Switzerland is equally as stunning yet nz is natural environment safe without fear of extreme either side of us.
The indigenous people Maori are exclusive to nz. Enjoy your experiences
Were there many icebergs in Hooker Lake? I'm still wondering what month to do that valley walk for maximum icebergs 🤔
There were a few, but the lake was brown!
@@OskarandDan I've only ever seen pics of it looking brown or Grey 🙂
Maybe it'was an elf from the LOTR who put it there. 🤔 It to stàyed there.
South Island represent
Yeah love the complement but no where is perfect, NZ has its issues just like everywhere else. Hope your traveling to the BOI it will blow your minds
Your in. Nz playground for the young ones enjoy all over nz
Wanaka Forever
Epic epic epic
A master class in New Zealand place name mispronunciation 😂
❤️❤️❤️👍
So weird but aside from your pronunciation of the place names, I wouldn't pick you out as not being from NZ! So interesting! Maybe it's the combo of your own accents and who you learnt English from...? ❤️
Two kiwis in disguise😉🥝
Did he say lake Bukkake🤔
Hallo, var det en toalett, eller? Hahaha
Awesome - by the way its pronounced TwYzel and it is Wanaka not Wan-a-ka
New Zealand is my bucket list travel
“New Zealand is just a mini Australia”
Hey mates... Just a correction for your Kiwi accent training, :D Twizel is not pronounced Twiz - el but TWI- ZEL like the TWI in Twilight. Also Kiwi lesson number 2: We do not say Hiking, we say Tramping. "We are going to Tramp to Mount Cook" or "We are Tramping around Mount Cook"
Tramping Mount Cook😩😂 LOVE it!
You'll find a few cultural differences between NZ and Switzerland.
So jealous of you guys.
