    What a beautiful piece - and it sounds spectacular! Hope you’ve got plenty of oil and some spares, because that engine is something that deserves to be in this world for a long time.

    Upgrade this motor by using induction of graphite rods in the pistons. Then you will be able to throttle the engine up or down and not need a fuel source or open flames. Novartis

      The constructor of this marvel; is Karl Syla. A german retired engineer; who during a periode of several years; made perhaps 40-50 different models of most types (steam, stirling and vacuum-engines).
      Most; perhaps all of his models;were made "one off". He made them all out of his own head. He made sketches during his workprocesses; but these were not saved later unfortunately. So no sketches or plans are available for this or other of his models. A real shame.

    I have seen quite a few vacuum and stirling engines on youtube, but this one is definitely my favorite! it has a smooth running sound, and I especially love the starting and stopping mechanisms! Is there a drawback to having more than one cylinder feeding off of one flame?

    what about a radial version that uses on wick.. and increased efficacy.

  • @CP110
    @CP110 6 років тому

    What if you put like a stator or alternator on it suppling voltage to coils to heat up the air instead of burning fuel, and have it perpetually run on its own energy? Burn fuel at the beginning to start it then when it gets up to speed switch to the electric heating element

    • @Jesus_Christ_loves_you_alot
      @Jesus_Christ_loves_you_alot 2 роки тому

      Alternators are only about 60% effecient, and you won't be able to direct all the heat from the coils into the engine. So no it won't run perpetually. Maybe for a couple hours, but definitely not perpetually.

      Yes. You can see it well in the video. The cam lifts the valve-rods in synchronized sequence.

    How long would it run with just 3 or less cylinder hitting

    • @bamsefar1
      @bamsefar1  8 років тому +2

      +Jon Newman (JJBigBalla)
      Thanks for looking.
      Performance is substantially weakened with three or less pistons running. It will run on three cylinders. But hardly on two I would believe.
      In the video, you may see it run on three cylinders for a very short time. I have no desire to run it on less than 4 cylinders; so the runtime on three cylinders has not been tested. I love it to much to see it struggle ;-)

    Ok, i have a Q that might be dumb or answered, but we can run ICE on ethnol. And this runs on the "flame" or exhaust fumes to so speak. Would it not be an idea to combine it? ICE running, and the exaust on that powers this type of piston behind it. It would be like re-using the fuel, instead of "burning it" ineffectively like these engines seem to do.
    Or am i missing something?

    • @bamsefar1
      @bamsefar1  7 років тому

      Flame-lickers/vacuum-motors are not energy-efficient, compared to most working-princips. I may misunderstand you; but in case I am not: these motors are not powered by the exhaust-fumes; but the vcuum made by the temperature-difference between the hot air introduced to the cylinder and the cold air made by watercooling or cooling-fins.

    • @paddan426
      @paddan426 7 років тому

      That much i understand. My point was, if instead of using "hot-air" from a flame, use the hot-air from the exhaust of a ICE, and then cool it with the normal engine cooling system. You could in theory even increase its effectiveness by using a N/A engines vacuum, although that would need a redesign.
      Even if the efficiency is low on it, its "waisted" energy (from the ICE), used to give power. And even if its not to power say a cars wheels, it can be used to power the generators, charge the battery or similar, thus lowering fuel consumption.
      Either case, its a really nice model you have :)

      The added complexity would outweigh by far any gains from recuperating exhaust heat. It's simply not worth it.

      The entire model was scratch built. Between 400-500 hours of building time.
      Only one just like it.
      I know this model has been inspiration for other model- builders.
      I don't know what you are asking about. An estimated value or if it is for sale?
