Colorado did bring in alot of transfers with multiple years of eligibilty left.Starting over with a team with mostly freshman is a death sentence for a coach in todays game.

High School recruiting is where you build your foundation, but having 8-10 players transfer out each year while bringing in 8-10 guys to upgrade certain positions is something everyone is doing. You can’t have the constant roster overhaul like the HOF player turned used car salesman in Boulder does, but if you’re not utilizing the portal each year to immediately fill holes while talented underclassmen develop and work their way into the rotation or upgrade certain roster spots you’re going to get left behind. Look no further than Clemson’s fall off from being the 2nd best program in America and Tennessee’s ascension from football hell/purgatory to being somewhat of a national contender again. Dabo refuses to use it whereas guys like Hendon Hooker completely changed the trajectory of the program
Whoever believes the transfer portal is a long-term roster management initiative for Colorado lacks any real-world management experience, specifically regarding early-stage start-ups or turning around stagnated or declining organizations. Intentional organizations grow in phases, and for each phase, different strategies and tactics are applied to reach successive phases. Coach Prime is doing precisely what needs to be done to gain early momentum while eventually setting the foundation to adopt a more traditional roster management strategy.
