Order “Death by Communism-Are We Next?” by Miriam Codias. That will put things in perspective for you.
And, before you believe the lies they keep feeding you about Cuba before Castro, know that I was shocked to see the number homeless people in Toronto and Montreal. But, would I say that the well-established system of socialist Canada is an abusive system that causes the homelessness? Of course not. Would I say that the racism in Canada is so abusive that it is impossible for the poor to live in Canada? Of course not…that would be ridiculous. So it was with socialist Cuba before Castro. Everything was working as well as any government system could *without* having to install an oppressive, abusive internationally-run destruction machine of a “government”. So, please stop repeating the lies the evil wealthy global overlords keep propagating.

This video was filmed way back in a strange time known as "January". In this strange time, people known as "Travellers" used to get on strange devices known as "Airplanes" and rocket through the sky, until they landed in other countries. They then used to explore these strange countries, try new foods, and even meet with strangers on the street. Can you believe it? Almost feels like a dream, today. But here's hoping this strange time comes back again soon. Until then, hope you enjoy this video from Havana 🇨🇺🤙

8:35 That's capoeira! A brazilian martial art. Wow, I didn't know they had this in Cuba
"Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music. It was developed by enslaved Africans in Brazil at the beginning of the 16th century. It is known for its acrobatic and complex maneuvers, often involving hands on the ground and inverted kicks" -By wikipedia

Hey, Dan! This half-dance/half-martial arts thing you saw is named Capoeira. It was born in 16th-century Brazil from slaved African workers. It was used as a form of resistance and was even prohibited at some point. It then spread among other Africanized countries, especially in Latin America. It’s very popular in other countries Too . I happen to practice in Canada.

I have been going to Cuba for close to 30 years and I recently went and the situation is dire for the people outside of Havana. Even in Havana conditions are bleak for the people that live there. i found it typical they wouldn't accept there own money in the airport only Euro and Canadian dollars then they give you change in their money that is worthless outside of Cuba and is accepted in very limited places in Cuba. They want you to pay for everything with a credit/debit card which you cannot do if you are an American. The official exchanges wont even change dollars but there are people that will you just have to be careful .where you change it. I saw long lines of people trying to buy gasoline . Lines in front of stores that did have a few items to sell saw to store with huge lines that had near riots and had to have police called to calm things down. . Electrical outages up to 8 to 10 hours a day. I sat and suffered through sweltering heat with different Cuban people and everyone of them said their lives were so much better under Fidel. Not that he was a good person but there lives were better. My hear bleeds for my Cuban friends but I have no desire to ever return just remember the Cuba i knew and loved.

I have been to Cuba 4 times in de mid 90's way before cell phones and wifi (at that time it was just starting to come up in Europe) were popular and the energy and livelihood was wonderful! Very friendly people, beautiful old cities (Matanzans, Santiago de Cuba to name a few), good food on the resorts but also in the so called 'home restaurants' and awesome weather. Without internet, wifi and cell phones people do interact more and on different levels (as in my youth growing up in the 70's and 80's in the Netherlands). Yes, there are advantages with internet, etc but we also lost a very important life value: 'interaction with other people'! I love Cuba and hope to visit again once this pandemic shit is over! Your video brought back memories!!

Don't delude yourself. Cuba is an absolute shit hole, police state. There are pro Castro, pro-communist, anti-US billboards EVERYWHERE in Havana. If you don't think capitalism exists there though, just walk down the street for an hour on your own - you will have every hustler in the barrio try to sell you something - cigars, tours, even women for a few dollars.

There were many things that caught my attention when I went to Cuba. The decaying and crumbling buildings, the deteriorating roads, many of which have washed away and only dirt roads are left. The lines, shortages and rationing of just about everything. Unless you have US dollars to pay with, then there are special stores you can shop in that have “some things” that the average person can not get. It also caught my attention how just about everyone has a hustle to try and get those US dollars from tourists, they don’t want to be paid in local currency, they can’t buy much with it. Yes, there was a lot of energy you feel right away. I call it the energy of soul crushing desperation and hopelessness.

@@jeanrafael873 They are not chanting on the streets of Cuba for money, they are chanting for Freedom, Liberty, Democracy. LIBERTAD! It's pretty miserable living without Freedom, Liberty, Democracy wouldn't you say. Or at you nothing but a communist automaton pretending Cubans have Freedom, Liberty, Democracy while unarmed civilians are being beaten, arrested, shot in the cold blood on the streets and in their homes, sentenced without a defense in a Kangaroo court, without evidence for the crime of demanding LIBERTAD....

@@kevg6365 You are insane! Our people live in an agrarian country with fertile land, but we don't even grow enough food to feed our people and what little the dictatorship exports is taken away from the mouths of our children. Everything is rationed, even sugar, milk, rice, beans, bread, EVERYTHING. We are given enough for maybe a week and it's supposed to last a month. We live on an island but we don't have seafood. Our infrastructure is 65+ years old and crumbling. Our water is unsafe to drink, it has to be boiled. Our power is switched off frequently, often on a daily basis causing what little food we have to spoil. Our houses are crumbling and no building materials to repair them. Everything the dictatorship screws up with it's mismanagement, they blame on the US. If our glorious anti-capitalist revolution was dependent on US capitalism then it was doomed before it started. But it wasn't even that, they promised they were not communist because they knew we would not support them. They lied, they were not just communists but totalitarian, dictatorial communists. This Cuban Garden of Eden is infested and ruled by serpents from hell. I may not live in Cuba now but I once did, it's a hell hole. Honduras might have poverty. Cuba has poverty and oppression. I think Hondurans are better off! At least they have the freedom to improve their country in the future. Cubans do not have that freedom but we do have the poverty that Communism brought to our country some 62 years ago and gets worse every year! Patria y Vida!!!!

Been there just recently - not gpoing to lie, the place feels like it's falling apart, simply expiring. Rotting in the heat like the trash is on the streets of Havana.
Fuel Crisis, constant blackouts, massive shortages of almost every basic commodity, no medicine - the place is creaking on the edge of total collapse.
It's a shame, beautiful country, beautiful people.
