And, before you believe the lies they keep feeding you about Cuba before Castro, know that I was shocked to see the number homeless people in Toronto and Montreal. But, would I say that the well-established system of socialist Canada is an abusive system that causes the homelessness? Of course not. Would I say that the racism in Canada is so abusive that it is impossible for the poor to live in Canada? Of course not…that would be ridiculous. So it was with socialist Cuba before Castro. Everything was working as well as any government system could *without* having to install an oppressive, abusive internationally-run destruction machine of a “government”. So, please stop repeating the lies the evil wealthy global overlords keep propagating.

That dog is a metaphor for how chill Cuba is, dog knows it's cared for, can live and sleep in the middle of the street without worry or fear of getting run over or harmed.

This video was filmed way back in a strange time known as "January". In this strange time, people known as "Travellers" used to get on strange devices known as "Airplanes" and rocket through the sky, until they landed in other countries. They then used to explore these strange countries, try new foods, and even meet with strangers on the street. Can you believe it? Almost feels like a dream, today. But here's hoping this strange time comes back again soon. Until then, hope you enjoy this video from Havana 🇨🇺🤙
Greetings from Uruapan Michoacán México!!!
It's good to see you back 👍
SO awesome to see this video, Dan! Thank you! I must ask ... you spoke of your "next video". Is that one you've already published, or another Cuba video to be on the lookout for?
Hey MsShellMel, next one is coming soon
@@TheNewTravel YAY!!! Thanks Dan! Be well.
I love Cuba but I'm scare to go there because if I go maybe I want come home after that, because it's awsome country! Respect and love from Serbia 🇷🇸 ❤️ 🇨🇺

Despite the run down buildings and sometimes empty shops, Havana, in fact the whole of Cuba is without doubt, the happiest place I have ever been to. The vast majority of Cuban people are grateful for what they have rather than envious of what they don't have
It’s funny that you say that because the Elites 2030 Agenda is for us in America to own nothing and be happy. Hmmm 🤔
I just came back from Cuba and wholeheartedly agree with this. Despite their situation, the Cuban people have a joie-de-vivre and local pride that's rare and refreshing. It made me feel alive to just be there and observe and talk to them.
Congratulations for your eyes! La Habana is one of the most beautiful and warm cities in the world and the cuban people one of the kindest! I've been there twice, in 1984 and in 2009 and I will never forget these trips. I felt at home! I hope to visit it again! Greetings from Rio!
Thank you
Alot of it is pretty but it also has some slums, I've visited since some fam lives there
how was the city different in 1984 and 2009?
Havana is destroyed! There’s is nothing beautiful about crumbling buildings!
Amazing video, I am from New York, I've traveled to Cuba a few times and your Video about Havana is spot on. There is something about the people...the community...the culture..simply amazing. Thank you for this video.

;w; what a joke-
Possibly the best video i've seen on Cuba. I've been there twice and it really captures its essence. I'm from the UK but I currently live in the Caribbean and that dog in the middle of the street is exactly what happens here, they also sleep in the middle of the streets. Loads of dogs walking around. Some are strays but some are owned. Its a Caribbean thing. 😀😀
Awwww I wish I could adopt the sweet dog in the street. Seems like he’s somewhat cared about since he has a shirt 😇 Thanks for sharing!

8:35 That's capoeira! A brazilian martial art. Wow, I didn't know they had this in Cuba
"Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music. It was developed by enslaved Africans in Brazil at the beginning of the 16th century. It is known for its acrobatic and complex maneuvers, often involving hands on the ground and inverted kicks" -By wikipedia
@Jaxon Clifton Yeah, but that’s not the case. Capoeira was invented by the African community in Brazil... it doesn’t come from the Portuguese. It travelled through black communities in Latin America later in the 20th century, that’s why you’re seeing it in Cuba
Capoeira is everywhere, even in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau

I love how regardless of what political system a country adopts, the politicians NEVER live in the part of town that is falling apart.
It’s similar to world leaders not afraid to wage war against another nation because they don’t have to join the war.
@@wonderspace90 always think of someone in the UK who said (about the first 🌍 war) something like "the king from each country is sending their servant to die for him" or something like that
That's an accurate observation, and while it's not the same, Fidel Castro made a point of staying in poverty-stricken Harlem when he visited New York for the UN General Assembly instead of the swanky hotel that the other world leaders were put up in. I only bring this up because there are some great documentaries made about Fidel's 10 day stay there and the impact his visit had on poor American communities.

Capoeira is a Brazilian cultural expression that mixes martial art, sport, popular culture, dance and music. There are capoeira masters in different parts of the world. But the origin is Brazilian, initiated by the slaves
No, Capoeira and Brazilian Jijiutsu are originally from Japan. Some Japanese martial artists brought them to Brazil.

Thank you for this video. Havana is my hometown, and I haven’t been there in 4 years. The cinematography, the music, everything is perfect.
What a so lovely city, love Cuba from Vietnam!
Wow you guys in Vietnam must really be in a shithole if you think Cuba is lovely. It once was. It hasn't been the case in over 60 years since the communists bankrupt the country and stole everything and anything of value.
God bless the people of Cuba. I love that they all care about the dog. Cool. Doesn't sound like the dog wants to be anywhere or with anyone else. He is loved. That made your video on Cuba complete. In Quito, Ecuador, they love their pets too, as all good people do.
Everything about this video is beautiful. Very well done.
It is so refreshing to see people on the streets and cafes talking and going about their day without their heads buried in their smartphones texting or checking likes and follows on social media.
Yeah, it's so refreshing for the average cuban resident to not have internet access. For the average cuban resident not to afford those street cafes on their own salaries... For the Cuban youth to have nothing to look forward to. Really. I simply cannot understand why the Cuban people are even protesting their own government, Throughout all the provinces, island wide..! Why should they want freedom, when they have such wonderful cafes..???

This is bringing back so much memories :(
I miss my Cuba
Wonderful Dan. Walking around the streets of Havana. You gave us the opportunity to observe how it the day-by-day in that city.
Watching this video brought back so many lovely memories. I cannot wait to visit this beautiful island again once it's safe to do so! Havana Vieja (the neighbourhood you walked while filming) has seen restoration works in an attempt to bring it back to its former glory. La oficina del historiador (Eusebio Leal, check his projects out if you can) started restoration works a few years ago and thanks to that, the district is starting to look really nice, though much more work is still needed.
And then, It cames that Trump has won the election with the Cubans in Miami money...
@@Lilib130 exactly, well we know that the latest sanctions are aimed at pleasing those Miami lobbyists, election coming right?
Havana had a very different energy (than what I used to seeing in India), that was my first impression
🤣🤣🤣🤣 sorry , I can't stop laughing, the dog is very smart 😄 🤣🤣🤣
Hey, Dan! This half-dance/half-martial arts thing you saw is named Capoeira. It was born in 16th-century Brazil from slaved African workers. It was used as a form of resistance and was even prohibited at some point. It then spread among other Africanized countries, especially in Latin America. It’s very popular in other countries Too . I happen to practice in Canada.
Cheers for the info
I once saw some beautiful capoeira dancing in Bahia, Brazil years ago
I watched a Movie "Only the Strong" using Capoeira to teach the youth to stay out of trouble. Very interesting movie
Man, Cuba Haven't changed at all since i left in 2006.
Miss it so much😃❤️
Love cuba from Pakistan 🇵🇰❤️
The thumbnail of the video looks exactly like the street I filmed a music video on 😃
I like these travel videos! I'm going to check out more of your content 😊
Thank you Flavia! Welcome to the new travel :)
Great video! I have wanted to travel Cuba but I haven’t could yet , I hope to go in the future. Thanks for this video.
Thanks Dan, for giving us a glimpse of this ancient and beautiful City.
I used to feed the neighbourhood doggo, when I visited Cuba. The best thing is that everyone in the neighbourhood cared for him.. also I have never been so ripped off like I was in Cuba. The City is just full of opportunists which just Sucks! If I ever go back I'll stay far from the city and simply go to the country side.
I came here becuase I recently (20 minutes ago) got inspired by Cuban architecture. Man, this does feel like no other city and especially loved your strange but, beautiful perpective on it. Cheers.
WOW, the scaffolding finally is down, off the capitol building. Looks gorgeous!
my mother is from Havana Cuba and I have so many relatives that speak in a Cuban accent so when I heard the people speak I was like , and also the domino game that those guys were playing is what I play at home with my parents it’s callen longana ( I don’t know how to spell it)
Thx for this authentic and poetic tour!
Love this: 6:50. You hit the nail in the head. The energy there is beautiful. Beautiful culture.
Old Spanish cobble stone mixed with Soviet concrete very interesting architecture

I love Cuba and this is one of the best video's I have seen on Cuba. Thanks!
Old buildings are graceous
That people at 8:40 where playing "capoeira" (yes playing and not dancying) . It's a game that slaves used to play for practice some marcial arts and to distract in their free-time. In Brazil we've this too, most common to find it in the state of Bahia that has a long story about slavery...
Like in that episode of Bob’s Burgers??
I have been going to Cuba for close to 30 years and I recently went and the situation is dire for the people outside of Havana. Even in Havana conditions are bleak for the people that live there. i found it typical they wouldn't accept there own money in the airport only Euro and Canadian dollars then they give you change in their money that is worthless outside of Cuba and is accepted in very limited places in Cuba. They want you to pay for everything with a credit/debit card which you cannot do if you are an American. The official exchanges wont even change dollars but there are people that will you just have to be careful .where you change it. I saw long lines of people trying to buy gasoline . Lines in front of stores that did have a few items to sell saw to store with huge lines that had near riots and had to have police called to calm things down. . Electrical outages up to 8 to 10 hours a day. I sat and suffered through sweltering heat with different Cuban people and everyone of them said their lives were so much better under Fidel. Not that he was a good person but there lives were better. My hear bleeds for my Cuban friends but I have no desire to ever return just remember the Cuba i knew and loved.
Best city ever
I definitely love Havana city, Cuba
January is most pleasant time of the year weather wise in Cuba. Plaza Viejo is not well preserved. Instead, I have watched amazing renovation over the last 10 years. All that appears to be well preserved in Cuba has actually been substanially renovated for benefit of the tourist industry. I look forward to your next video. La Habana is "a whole 'nother country" in Cuba. I really love the very different rural parts as well.
i'm vietnamese we love cuba country i hope vietnam and cuba forever one family

I feel in Havana Cuba city back in real life 80s so nice place old place
The dog is fine. Dog's in Cuba are built different don't worry.

The half dance and half marcial art name is Capoeira, it's very common in Salvador Bahia but we can also see it in Rio de Janeiro and others cities in Brazil.

Lol that lady got an easy dollar out of that quick scam "you gotta pay a dollar to take a pic of that dog. .... oh it lives across the street" 😂
I have been to Cuba 4 times in de mid 90's way before cell phones and wifi (at that time it was just starting to come up in Europe) were popular and the energy and livelihood was wonderful! Very friendly people, beautiful old cities (Matanzans, Santiago de Cuba to name a few), good food on the resorts but also in the so called 'home restaurants' and awesome weather. Without internet, wifi and cell phones people do interact more and on different levels (as in my youth growing up in the 70's and 80's in the Netherlands). Yes, there are advantages with internet, etc but we also lost a very important life value: 'interaction with other people'! I love Cuba and hope to visit again once this pandemic shit is over! Your video brought back memories!!
Thanks for that Dan. This video made my day better. ♥

No billboards, no consumerism. So sad there's embargo going on, because that country would be able to rebuild itself without it. But atleast people get by.
Don't delude yourself. Cuba is an absolute shit hole, police state. There are pro Castro, pro-communist, anti-US billboards EVERYWHERE in Havana. If you don't think capitalism exists there though, just walk down the street for an hour on your own - you will have every hustler in the barrio try to sell you something - cigars, tours, even women for a few dollars.
I’d like to go to Cuba one day. Great video.
idk if anyone has pointed this out yet to you, but there are no earthquakes in havana. i think the buildings that have fallen apart have fallen apart bc things are old, the govt doesnt care to fix them and the people don't have the resources to.
Nice 🏙️ city havana all are new weather it is old or new so nice people entertent every thing as they like display so nicely ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
There were many things that caught my attention when I went to Cuba. The decaying and crumbling buildings, the deteriorating roads, many of which have washed away and only dirt roads are left. The lines, shortages and rationing of just about everything. Unless you have US dollars to pay with, then there are special stores you can shop in that have “some things” that the average person can not get. It also caught my attention how just about everyone has a hustle to try and get those US dollars from tourists, they don’t want to be paid in local currency, they can’t buy much with it. Yes, there was a lot of energy you feel right away. I call it the energy of soul crushing desperation and hopelessness.
Well said.
Being poor isn’t being miserable, remember that.
@@jeanrafael873 They are not chanting on the streets of Cuba for money, they are chanting for Freedom, Liberty, Democracy. LIBERTAD! It's pretty miserable living without Freedom, Liberty, Democracy wouldn't you say. @@kevg6365 You are insane! Our people live in an agrarian country with fertile land, but we don't even grow enough food to feed our people and what little the dictatorship exports is taken away from the mouths of our children. Everything is rationed, even sugar, milk, rice, beans, bread, EVERYTHING. We are given enough for maybe a week and it's supposed to last a month. We live on an island but we don't have seafood. Our infrastructure is 65+ years old and crumbling. Our water is unsafe to drink, it has to be boiled. Our power is switched off frequently, often on a daily basis causing what little food we have to spoil. Our houses are crumbling and no building materials to repair them. Everything the dictatorship screws up with it's mismanagement, they blame on the US. If our glorious anti-capitalist revolution was dependent on US capitalism then it was doomed before it started. But it wasn't even that, they promised they were not communist because they knew we would not support them. They lied, they were not just communists but totalitarian, dictatorial communists. This Cuban Garden of Eden is infested and ruled by serpents from hell. I may not live in Cuba now but I once did, it's a hell hole. Honduras might have poverty. Cuba has poverty and oppression. I think Hondurans are better off! At least they have the freedom to improve their country in the future. Cubans do not have that freedom but we do have the poverty that Communism brought to our country some 62 years ago and gets worse every year! Patria y Vida!!!!
Been there just recently - not gpoing to lie, the place feels like it's falling apart, simply expiring. Rotting in the heat like the trash is on the streets of Havana.
Fuel Crisis, constant blackouts, massive shortages of almost every basic commodity, no medicine - the place is creaking on the edge of total collapse.
It's a shame, beautiful country, beautiful people.
I'd say you're a very good photographer... I miss Cuba and can't wait to go back. Will be my 8th visit since 2009! Too bad they bought into the American Convid hysteria....😪
It's a beautiful island nation!...♥️
