    "Why didn't they board the ships and steal the cargo?" * ISD drops out of hyperspace * ......."Thats why..."

    • @WyldstaarStudios
      @WyldstaarStudios 4 роки тому +138

      True, but if they knew an ISD was going to show up, what was the point? The loss of a few fighters and the need to repair some cargo haulers is barely noticeable for an organization as vast as The Empire. The Rebels lost a couple of precious fighters, which they desperately need and can't afford to waste.

    • @madsam7582
      @madsam7582 4 роки тому +55

      The only reason would be that the Rebels have someone on one of the Gozantis.
      And the empire wouldn't look at someone who had been on an attacked ship

    • @connerclark3678
      @connerclark3678 4 роки тому +192

      Possible explanations:
      a) A feint designed to draw away the Imperial cruiser from its post.
      b) The Gazontis held supplies for which delaying their arrival was mission critical in and of itself.
      c) The Rebels DID want to board/capture, but got word of the cruiser just in time.
      d) An inexperienced, overconfident, or glory-seeking Rebel commander chose to risk engaging with a real sense of tactical advantage but less regard for losses in the big picture.
      e) Getting a sense of the Imperial response time was mission-critical and they jumped out the literal first second they had a reading on an approaching ship.
      I’ve seen a few TV shows seem to indicate one can detect ships approaching with about 5 seconds advance notice, especially if you are expecting them. My wacky theory is that this is the time-dilation as the ship drops below E, arrives back in realspace, and faces realspace physics. It actually takes 3-6 seconds, which to the rapidly-decelerating pilots feels like only a second or so.
      f) Maybe, maybe your premise is off.
      I saw the rebels lose only 1 A-Wing against 8 TIEs and crippling, for a while, 2 Gazontis. That seems a lot like many successful guérilla ambushes in military history.
      The rebels were terribly outgunned in large, full-on warships but the Empire was deeply unpopular. Not counting fighters, the totality of ALL resistance to their rule may have meant that rebels of any and every stripe totaled a LARGER total number of ships - albeit smaller, less sophisticated, and less unified command to start.

      Conner Clark all very good points! This story could go in many directions from here. I felt like the cargo was fragile, and now it’s too damaged to use. They didn’t completely destroy their objectives, but they did shoot through the roof and destroy the cargo. And they had some knowledge of when this meeting was to take place, and got there first, knowing the big ship would show up, they hit and run. Or perhaps the cargo ships sent out a distress call as soon as they attacked, and seeing this distress call go out, they knew about how much time they had. Short films like this are great! As they allow the imagination to work, and let each viewer write their own story. Maybe the rebels had a Jedi amongst them, who sensed through the force that the cruiser was coming?! Even more thrilling.

      Farseer Animation and also sound design. I’ve noticed that the turret sounds are all the same for the bigger ships, and their needs to be the feeling of velocity form the Tie Fighters and A wing. The sound is great in this, but it sounds too, um, not flat, but simple. Their isn’t depth to it,
      Edit: you can tell what I mean. When the ships exit out of hyper space, it’s as if you can feel the force, but when they’re flying, it takes you out of immersion.

    I love this. I'm imagining how interesting it could be with like, cuts between the space battle and individual crew/pilots communicating and reacting to everything, I think that's one of my favourite things about the battles in the movies (like the little snippets, "Stay on target", and the bit in rogue one where they're ramming the star destroyer "Reverse thrusters, full power!"), because it really allows you to put yourself in these epic situations. I can imagine how it would be like 1000x harder to have this stuff though lmao

    • @PaulVandersypen

      @@enermaxstephens1051 That's the thing. There was no outside force acting on the cargo vessel. It wasn't already moving in the direction of the "fall", and nothing else was affecting its movement in the way presented. A ship in space moves in the same direction it was going if the engines are destroyed; the ship does not move sideways, up, or down. So yes, that took me out of the action. And yes, the ship should have had the same trajectory, before and after the engines were destroyed.

    This animation is gorgeous. To credit it realistically, I'd say it's on par with the prop quality of Ep.V. Where I _really_ think this stands out is in the audio. The musical scoring, the wide array of familiar sfx all on point. The hyperdrive on the ship getting blasted before it can jump was a sweet touch. All and all... Id say this fits as a nice fan promo for the upcoming starfighter game... which I'm soundly skeptical will have dogfight choreography of this caliber :D

      Unlike, say, _Star Trek_ , _Star Wars_ doesn't have to be quite so concerned with realism, can do with a little unrealism for the sake of the grandeur of the spectacle.
      Yeah, a "little." Not even _Star Wars_ should go too very far with that, shouldn't go all kooky off the rails (like Disney's space bombers, for one dumb, awful example).
      I'd say: Leave the level of unrealism to, say, some bits of fire and no more, OR go more for the realism of Space (not bad for _Star Wars_ ) and get rid of the fire, and leaving all else (explosions, etc.) as is in the short VFX demo-film above.

    Something to keep in mind:
    Your ships all have multiple turrets and cannons. Keep in mind the sight lines and how many weapons can see the target, and then fire them. It kinda takes you out of the emotion of the fight if you're only ever firing one weapon at a time.

    • @KentonBenfield
      @KentonBenfield 4 роки тому +1

      Maybe the power levels of the main/secondary reactors can't provide enough to fire all weapons at once, so you have to choose slow firing main guns or faster firing secondary guns? Just a rationalization.

    • @LordVader1094
      @LordVader1094 3 роки тому +3

      @@KentonBenfield Well we know that isn't the case, since these ships have been shown to fire more than one gun at once. Plus, what would be the point of having more than one weapon if you can't use them all?

    • @ethanphipps
      @ethanphipps 3 роки тому

      @@LordVader1094 Some could be for defence against fast moving targets like squadrons, others to be used in dreadnaught vs dreadnaught attacks where the tiny cannons would be useless and therefore it is a waste to have a larger reactor to power them all, because there isn't often a situation where you could or would have the manpower to be able to use all the guns at once.
      Another reason could be that they are diverting more power to the shields. In other scenarios the shields are useless because of the magnitude of the enemy weapons or the size of the attacker and you could divert all power to the guns. If you were a lone ship attacking the death star on its own, you wouldn't have much need for shields giving the power of the superlaser, and you would use more energy for propelling yourself around the death star to the other side of the superlaser and for firing the guns. And small anti-squadron defence guns would be useless against a death star.

    • @VorpalDerringer
      @VorpalDerringer 2 роки тому

    It looks amazingly good. I found only one little oddity blatantly out of place- the TIE Fighter @1:35 is not scaled down for distance and looks enourmous beside the A-Wing. But overall a bloody great short!

    • @SethLunchquest
      @SethLunchquest 4 роки тому

      If he was using a wide angle lens, then distant objects wouldn't look too much smaller than near objects. It's a cinematic trick that helps pull the viewer into the action. However, it relies on having a background to scale against, which is probably why it looks a bit odd here. Stars are a poor background to shoot moving action against.

    • @Jack_Stafford
      @Jack_Stafford 4 роки тому +1

      It is not a lens or background issue, the a wing is superimposed on top of the Tie Fighter and is as small as the engine housing. At first I thought it had gone in front of the Tie Fighter and was shooting backwards at it because the a wing was so much smaller and in the distance but somehow gotten composited on top of the Tie Fighter

    • @holden88
      @holden88 4 роки тому

      The A-wing is a tiny craft. Most people overestimate its size and assume it is rendered or shown too small when it is actually to scale. The A-wing can easily fit inside the wingspan of a Tie Fighter.

    • @Jack_Stafford
      @Jack_Stafford 4 роки тому +1

      @@holden88 naw.... there is no excusing this size discrepancy. If you watch it the a wing is so small that it would fit within the cockpit of the Tie Fighter and the pilot would have to be one foot tall. It was merely a composition error, the a-wing should have been behind the Tie Fighter and explosion not in front of it from our point of view.

    • @holden88
      @holden88 4 роки тому

      @@Jack_Stafford Huh? At 1:35 you can see the A-wing behind the Tie Fighter and blowing it up. It is clearly sized correctly here (just fitting inside the Tie Fighter panels). Ships don’t fall in space. Don’t have large ships start falling down when they lose engines. There’s no reason for it, they’d just keep coasting in the same direction they were going. The only time ships might “fall” is if they’re over a planet or a body of large mass.

    You really get a good idea of how powerful the Advanced A-wings are, and why they would play such a pivotal role in the Battle of Endor. The TIEs might have more cyclic firepower and better shields (and the ability to launch proton torpedoes, as well), but those cannons on the A's ... brutal! Plus, their maneuverability is on par with the X-wing stalkers. Really, they're that good!
