It is Dan, mostly chalk hills and flint around us so this was a real pleasure to ride in different surroundings with a new group of cycling friends👍 Cheers Dan...
Cheers Terry, was really nice to join in with an FCC group ride out. They are legends! Cheddar Gorge was a pretty serious climb and I'm glad to have ticked this one off the bucket list! 👍👌😊🚴🏻♀️
Awesome to me you two! What great footage and chat! Hope to see you two again very soon on another ride, no gels though 🤪 #cyclingneedsmoresnazzyshirts💙
What a pleasure to ride with you and Julie, you're both such lovely people and absolute machines! Loved the footage 👌 it was tense towards the end with you and Mark 🚴🚴🏽♀️🤗🙌
Haha! Always save a little energy for going over the top 🤣🤣 🤣 Yeah really great to meet up and ride, it was a very friendly group. Looking forward to the next time.
I cycled up Cheddar gorge as a teenager on a week YHA touring. Great ride. I recently rode it on FulGaz.no difference between real and Kikr Snap. Enjoyed it.
I know you've always said that Julie is the competitive one out of you two but it comes to us all eventually Mike! 😊 Good climbing skills mate, well done!
Did you spot the fighting goats on the top of the gorge? I went on a Darren Phillips-inspired gravel(ish) ride round Cheddar last September which culminated in a descent of the gorge. I hit 55mph on the corner at about 11 mins in your video, had a speed wobble and wiped out spectacularly. I snapped my collarbone, gave myself a hip contusion the size of a grapefruit, bent my bars, cracked my helmet in half on the tarmac and put about 2kg of road gravel into my leg! I still find it hard to lift my left arm above the shoulder now. Always wear a helmet guys, (I know you do!) but this really brought it home to me - I think that is probably why I’m here to type this! I still managed a 50k very flat ride round Burnham on Sea the following day but I don’t think I’ve gone over about 25mph since that day!
No goats (other than the GOATs on the ride of course 😁) I mentioned to Julie a couple of times that the Gorge looks more scary going down than up. That sounds like a pretty spectacular wipe out.... Kudos to you for getting back in the saddle 💪👍
Stunning place. Just wondering how your gearing helped with the climb. I have an old road bike with 50/34 up front with 12-27 at the back and tend to feel I’m running out of gears on some hills. Looking to upgrade so after a little advice if that’s ok. Enjoying your videos and adventures.
34t with an 11-32 cassette seems to get me up everything I've had to ride so far on road. That said it's nice having the 31t 11-32 GRX off-road. I sometimes fail on a hill off-road due to lack skill or loss of traction but not gearing.Hope that helps and thanks for commenting 👍
Yep John it was a rather long hill, well done cycling it too! The bottom half was pretty steep. 🚴🏻♀️🥵 And then it levelled out a little bit. The landscape is so different though! 🙂👌🚴🏻♀️🚴🏻♀️
Great sustained effort Mike. Big fan of the metrics as you know. Is a power meter fitted to Julie's bike or is that a future upgrade? I was nervous about the many vehicles just watching. (Shaun)
Cheers Shaun, Julie's liv doesn't have a power meter as it's fitted to her Merida road bike. I may add one though. Yeah, I was a little slow to change up on all the 3-4% sections because I didn't know the hill. Nice climb 👍
400 Watts at 80 rpm, 5 mph! I really must try cycling with both legs! I’ve never seen above 200 Watts on Kikr Snap with my road bike, even at 100 rpm. Maybe Wahoo is not very good at calculating power. I’ve no idea.
That Mike, what a powerhouse. Cheddar gorge is quite scenic.

Brilliant footage Mike, really loved that and a real pleasure to meet and ride with you and Julie 🙌🚴🚴♀️💪
Was great to meet you and Amy, you legends!, and to join in with an FCC ride! 👌🚴🏻♀️😊
Cheers Mark, it was great to make it to our first FCC ride, really enjoyable, thank you...
Great ride and climbing, nice to see you join up with Mark, Amy and FCC Legends very well done 👍

Cheers Terry, yes a really friendly bunch and great to get out on a new route.
Fantastic vlog Mike impressive power climbing the gorge 💪such a great day👍🚴♂️
It was a very enjoyable day Chris, as you had said before the climb the bottom part was the steepest. 🥵
Cheers Chris, that was an enjoyable ride and it was good to tick the Cheddar Gorge climb off the liist. Full ride video still to come...
Good to see that coach loads of fans turned up to cheer you upwards.
Yep, looked to be mostly east Asian visitors. The tour guide said "There goes Wheelers at Large, the Posh and Becks of the mamil community" :D
@@WheelersAtLarge Good to have fans.
That's quite the climb - well done all!
Thanks Mick, it was an epic climb🥵👍🚴🏻♀️ Another hill climb ticked off!

Awesome bit of climbing Mike👍
Cheers Steve... 👍
Great job old boy!
Thank you sir👍
Ha! Cheddar gorge too. Was there week before 😆
Yes, a first time for us and really enjoyed it. Maybe we should setup a DGG/HGC away day sometime 👍

It was a good one David, even for this gravitationally challenged rider...
@@WheelersAtLarge Descend like a stone though.
Well done Mike 👍
Cheers Chris...👍
This climb has the lot, gotta go back and do it again 👏
Yes Andrew, it does have to lot, keeps it interesting and makes it easier somehow...maybe?🤣🤣👍
I know you've always said that Julie is the competitive one out of you two but it comes to us all eventually Mike! 😊 Good climbing skills mate, well done!
Oh! Is that what that was 🤣🤣🤣 I'll admit it's easy to get in "The Zone" sometimes and a chase makes that more likely 😀 👍 Cheers
Must revisit cheddar thanks for the reminder
Revisit.... Well done on doing it.👍 It was an epic climb 🥵👍
Great effort ... well done
Cheers Martin...👍
Amazing effort!
Thanks Robin 👍
I’ll be there this Saturday 22nd April 23 at the end of the Somerset sportive. Doing the 100 mile route so hope there’s something left in the legs 😂
Good luck for the sportive, the great thing about the Gorge is the steep bits are also the most picturesque so good distraction👍
Mike is a climbing beast! I'd be happy just to not roll backwards on some of those pitches! Nothing comparable around here to find out.
It could have been a different video if that 22% section had gone on much further 🤣👍 Cheers David...
Loved this ride ❤ Dave you’ve lost weight your shirt is looking bigger on you 👍🏼 😊
Cheers...

great Jubilee ride 🤘🇬🇧 well done. If Julie could ride with a higher cadence, she'd keep up with you easyly, anyway, pleasure watching you
That would involve gear changing 🤣🤣 Hopefully one day she'll get the knack of it...👍 Cheers Peter

@@julie-wheelersatlarge YES!
My knees hurt watching that cadence
Power is great, however.

Yes, it was a really good route Ben. We will definitely do it again! 👌🚴🏻♀️👌
Yeah, this is a worthy awayday for sure...👍
That guy overtaking you in the orange florescent jacket is at 500 Watts, I reckon! But you caught him with 435 Watts and overtook.
540 Watts! Had your turned the e-motor on?
Mark is light as feather with good engine. I just bide my time and wait to see 3-4% before turning the boost back on...
That was good, and different - seemed to be uncut, the stats and not much talking. Must be fast going the other way.
Cheers Jaqaroo, there will be a full ride video but that was indeed the Uncut hill climb...👍
