At some point it just becomes unfair, to have a voice as amazing as his is more than enough but then to be able to write songs like he does…it’s just amazing. Not to mention he is one of the few artist who sounds as good or better live. I am not exaggerating when I say I’ve never heard a song from him that wasn’t great and I’ve heard them all!
i could spend every evening of my life listening to him playing some songs and telling stories. this seems like such a nice and intimate gig! it's cool that he plays older songs at gigs, too. these are always so special.
That's a shame. This is one of my favorites by him. His shows now seem so much larger, which is great for him, but bad for the fans who don't want to endure the screaming girls.
This is a far cry from the original meaning of Ben Howard's intent of the song, but to me, this song is about how God was present with me in my past relationship with my ex-boyfriend. It reminds me that I did not go through the pain of that relationship for nothing, and that God understands and loves me regardless of how cruel I was to my ex or how cruel he was to me (we were both at fault for the disintegration of the relationship). Also, had an on-and-off relationship for 2 of the 4 years we were together. So the chorus, to me, is pretty much a reminder of God telling that my feelings are valid and although my actions were stupid, I am accepted in His eyes.... and however I feel about my ex (I still love him), doesn't matter. TDLR: this song to me is about God not loving me any less for making the wrong decisions. -------------- 'Cause lust is just a child's game and you Oh, you were always late to bloom [I really didn't learn much about relationships until well into my 20's, in comparison to the people around me, that was considered 'late blooming'] And you laugh like you've never been lonely [Newly given joy to now see that I was never alone] That's alright, honey That's alright with me [God still loved even when I felt like he wasn't there for me] Oh, you laugh like there's hope in the story [God has given me hope to restart, so now there is a new joy that surpasses all understanding] That's alright, honey That's alright with me [God still loves and accepts me] Oh, you laugh like I'll be there to hold you always [God will always be there to hold me in the midst of pain] Always here [God will always be there for me] I'm always, honey, always here [Re: above] And you love like you've always been lonely [I've often felt like God has abandoned me...(although he never did)] That's alright honey [God accepts me] That's alright with me [God still loved] Oh, you love him with all of your body [Self explanatory lol: but I also thinks this means heart, soul, brain, etc. Everything I am loved him] That's alright honey [I am forgiven] That's alright with me [God still loved] Oh, you love him like you'll be there for always [God validating the dedication and subsequent loss I faced] Always, honey, yeah, always near [Psalm 34:18] Always, honey, yeah, always near [John 14:18] Always, honey, yeah, always near [God saying he is always there through it all: past, present, future]
I’ve always played it Cgcgce capo on all but the low c at 5. That way you have that bass on bottom (you can hear when he strums a little harder how the low C slaps against the capo) and the little bit of brightness on the high e
I've never seen this...perfect.....'Ben says buy the EP' lol....one of the best songs ever created. And for the 3 people who didn't like this, you need to be put down and plucked immediately. Just saying.
I feel that in the first verse he's looking back on a memory, obviously about a previous crush or love. You can tell the feelings he has for this girl, especially by the last line, "I know you can never be alone, cause it's just the bones you're made of." It sounds like this girl might be insecure about herself so she's constantly in a relationship to try and make herself happy. The chorus still follows that example; the girl is always acting like nothings wrong around him. Sounds like they might have been very close friends, always together and always spending time with one another. The line "like i'll be there to hold you always," it seems like she finds him to be a friend, and he's saying yeah, i'll be here for you but apparently as only a friend. The middle verse is kinda self explanatory, so i'll skip to the last chorus which really hit me hard. The girl obviously has some self esteem issues with being lonely so she's always with someone. But it seems like she's now forgotten about him completely, and he's giving up. She's "in love" with someone new and she's giving that person all of her. Such a sad song, but so good.
I agree. I think it's also about a girl who finds that security in relationships. And I think he's accepted that about her and went on. Because he mentions a "him" later on.
Early on Ben played the Freshman FA300D which is made by a smaller company based in the UK. It's what Every Kingdom was recorded on and likely what he played back when this was recorded. The current model they make most like it is the Freshman SongwriterD. Hope this helps anyone else that winds up on this video 6 years later...
Don't think there is anything I would rather do or have than see him playing his old songs at a gig like this.
Same.
Same :)
The passion is so palpable. This is true unaltered, unhindered art. What a thing of beauty.
i really really really really really wish i was there
Never knew you were a Ben Howard fan!

That woman's reaction when he announced that we was playing Bones was perfection. She was so genuinely happy, "Yesss".
Thank you sir. You e been integral in my development in life and in my musical adventures. Much thanks.

This man is pure gold! Words cannot describe how much I love his music

Kinda wish I had seen at an intimate gig like this. As far as I know he doesn't play bones live anymore :(
That's a shame. This is one of my favorites by him. His shows now seem so much larger, which is great for him, but bad for the fans who don't want to endure the screaming girls.

Oh, you were always late to bloom [I really didn't learn much about relationships until well into my 20's, in comparison to the people around me, that was considered 'late blooming']
And you laugh like you've never been lonely [Newly given joy to now see that I was never alone]
That's alright, honey
That's alright with me [God still loved even when I felt like he wasn't there for me]
Oh, you laugh like there's hope in the story [God has given me hope to restart, so now there is a new joy that surpasses all understanding]
That's alright, honey
That's alright with me [God still loves and accepts me]
Oh, you laugh like I'll be there to hold you always [God will always be there to hold me in the midst of pain]
Always here [God will always be there for me]
I'm always, honey, always here [Re: above]
And you love like you've always been lonely [I've often felt like God has abandoned me...(although he never did)]
That's alright honey [God accepts me]
That's alright with me [God still loved]
Oh, you love him with all of your body [Self explanatory lol: but I also thinks this means heart, soul, brain, etc. Everything I am loved him]
That's alright honey [I am forgiven]
That's alright with me [God still loved]
Oh, you love him like you'll be there for always [God validating the dedication and subsequent loss I faced]
Always, honey, yeah, always near [Psalm 34:18]
Always, honey, yeah, always near [John 14:18]
Always, honey, yeah, always near [God saying he is always there through it all: past, present, future]
You lost me at, God?
HOW IS HE REAL?!
most of his songs are in CGCGGC so that would be a good guess
perfect
It's CGCGGC and it's a Martin D-28

Ben's songs shouldn't have a dislike button!
It reminds me of the girl I'm in love with. I wish he'd still play this live :(
This is too good to be true :)
He had daughter as a support act? Daughter and Ben Howard!? Jheeez lucky crowd man
♥
this one is definately in CGCGGC it has some of the same melodies as further away and thats how thats tuned
That's alright with me ❤
Its a Martin guitar, not sure which model though..
Can someone explain their interpretation of this song ?
I feel that in the first verse he's looking back on a memory, obviously about a previous crush or love. Such a sad song, but so good.
Anders Kristoffersson thanks! I couldn't agree more
I agree. I think it's also about a girl who finds that security in relationships. And I think he's accepted that about her and went on. Because he mentions a "him" later on.
ben howard is more, his songs are more... i think the definition of this song, is the explain of love by jiddu krishnamurti.
I will be crazy to know how He tunes the guitar and wich fuck chords !!! I LIKE
The way just casually stands up to mute the drums... RIGHT WHEN I JUST WANTED HIM TO START :D
whats his guitar called

nah, he is so awesome because of evolution. He is probably an evolved son of Beethoven.
I'd say open C maybe?
