@ Logos By Nick......And Nick today's 5th September when I watched this video and read this comment. Am an Indian too and therefore Happy Teacher's Day Nick. Respect
I've been using Inkscape since 2009, but still on a fairly limited capacity, even when I pair it with interactive web designs using Inkscape vectors and JavaScript. Still so much to learn, and I am very glad I found this channel!
Damn this doesn't seem to work anymore? I tried with the same image but all the dots were very spaced out, regardless of the size of the original dot. On top of that, they were not grouped after cloning. Very cool though. Is there a different way now?
hey nick , thanks for the video . Suggestion: can you make the tools little bigger or zoom the video to tools when you use them . it's difficult to see or read them.
Very cool. :-) I just started to get into Inkscape and still finding out what the program can do. Your tutorials are a definite help; been binge-watching them.
@@LogosByNick When I tried this the unlink is either hanging or incredibly slow. Is that normal? My attempt at this had about 4000 clones which I selected and did a shift alt d.
If the pic is not contrast y enough will it give you problems? I just tried with a kind of light looking image (not deep blacks) and I only get spuratic dots and not many of them.
It could be the image, but it could also be the settings in the Tiled Clones menu. With this feature it's important that the settings are exactly the same as I had them.
Was going to ask the same, or ask for tips on best suited pictures. Tried a few myself with the same result as you, but when I use the stock picture he linked to it turns out perfect. Has to be the choice of picture, but do not quite get what exactly is wrong with the pictures I choose. Cool feature though.
@@speedbully_84 Yeah, My pic of my daughters face would just give me random dots of random sizes....I'll have a look at the settings again like Nick mentioned.
I have come across your tutorials and am obsessed. You are one of the best teachers. I love that you discuss each and every step you take. It's super helpful an makes learning much more easy. You never assume that we might have heard you explain something already, you explain still. If that makes any sense. It implants the steps in the brain. I feel like I can honestly do a little something having never yet used inkscape productively before because of how well you teach. I appreciate you!!
Heya Nick, when I tried this in Inkscape, clicking greyscale makes the image selection bigger than it's supposed to be (selecting a lot of whitespace) causing the alignment to be out of whack, and also causing the trace image to copy 40,000 circles underneath the original one instead of tracing properly. Any ideas how to fix this?
I'm having the same issue, but going to Filters > Filter Editor and tweaking the numbers in the window that pops up fixed this for me. Hope it does for you as well.
@@Ranchi84 Hey, I'd like to update my situation in case others are wondering about it. Turns out, Inkscape doesn't delete leftover settings for the clone tool, and since I was messing around with previous settings it merged the settings from this tutorial with another clone tool tutorial I played with. Resulting in 40,000 vectors, all stuck under the other due to being restricted to only one X and Y value. The solution was to ensure that the settings are completely reset before trying Nick's tutorial again, which worked that time. Thanks!
Great tutorial as always! When I click the "Apply" button in turning it to grayscale, it adds a thick transparent border to the image. Any idea what's going on here?
I've tried this technique with several different images but the image you use in the tutorial is the only image from which I've managed to get a decent result. All the other images I have used (of trees, faces, cars, etc.) have come out with 40k black dots of the same size which have filled up the space with black and crashed Inkscape. I'm using the same technique with each image but get the same result with all of them, except this image. Are there any tips for image selection because clearly this technique doesn't work with every image (using v 1.3)?
Great video! I have one odd problem with changing to greyscale ---> the border of the image increases leaving empty space in the image which makes alignment of the circle impossible for me. Anyone else encountered this?
is it possible to make text flow in a polygon (yes, I already know that) and then make the letters of the text halftone bolder or thinner based on an underlying image? Wow, now that I think of it, that sounds super complicated to make algorithmically. You could convert the text to paths, then the outlines to paths, then somehow make the path thinner or bolder based on the tone of the image, but I imagine this would make ugly-ass letters. Maybe the most beautiful solution would be to map the weight of the letters to a threshold. I think I could do this faster in QGIS than in Inkscape, although I'd need to use a fixed width font.
Nick I have an issue with Inkscape. i had this happen a long time ago and I forgot what I did to fix it. okay was using it okay then when I try to draw a shape all I get is an empty box with a plus inside and no shape....Help me Nick or anyone please
I've yet to try this but is the halftone shape also linked to the image? Meaning if I change the contrast in the image afterwards will the halftone shape change? And what you may want to mention: as with all halftone effects if you want to use it in print make sure your image is at the correct size(in centimeters/inches) before applying the halftone effect.
hey nick what's up man I'm currently searching for a logo to be made and i wouldn't want it done by anyone but you I've tried to contact you through your page but its not working it don't allow me to send you an email how else can i contact you to get this made.
Hi Nick. I've been binge watching your vids - you are a master! I was just curios about your opinion on Illustrator and Affinity Designer. If price was the same, and you had to pick only one to use to do what you do.... which would it be?
I'd have to go with Illustrator because it has everything I need, but I like Affinity Designer so much more because of the setup, UI, and controls. They are just a feature or two away from making Illustrator irrelevant. If they could add perspective distortions, envelope distortions, image tracing, and a shape builder tool then I'd probably never use Illustrator again.
@@LogosByNick Well, I appreciate the lessons you give. I have had Illustrator for a couple years, but it was too heavy to get the hang of - until I found some of your tutorials. Now I'm all in on Illustrator, but I too, love the layout of Affinity. If they work on those same features as you said - I'm all in.
Think that has to do with the resolution of your monitor. The lower resolution the smaller canvas and bigger interfacing (icons) so they are readable and not pixelated. Higher resolution gives you the option for a bigger canvas and smaller icons. You can however in most software adjust resolution or IU-size under settings, but your monitor will ultimately limit how high you can go.
This is Great! But i can't see small details on my monitor & smartphone. Can you make smaller resolution of your screen ~ 1024x768 & record this video again for me? Please! I was lookin this function for CorelDraw many years... But it's impossible in CorelDraw with best quality as in your video.
So whenever I use the clone tool my application freezes for several minutes. I have a beast computer so i don't understand why it's struggling with this I have now seen two tutorials and they both show it happening instantly. Do I need to configure anything?
Hi Nick. Thanks for such interesting videos. But I stuck up somewhere in Layering as I switch off the layer 1 my all dots become white I don't know why ? Can you help
Hey Nick, I love your entertaining and informative videos. I once used this "Halftone technique" for a few days, and then the "custom" function under "view" disappeared. I wonder if the custom function was left out of the version of Inkscape I not have installed. Just wondering if you know anything about it. Thanks, Robert

Hello Nick! Great tutorial as always! However I am having slight problems. How do I make this work if my image is not a perfect square?
