Best video on the subject. I have a 2011 e90 M3 and have hesitated to learn this new trick (I'm an older dog lol). But I'm getting better each time I get in the car over the past couple of weeks. There's definitely a learning curve, but nailing a downshift keeps me coming back for more :-)

So cool to read this! Thank you🙏 I will add a short in few minutes where I show a technique that can give you more time to sync your movement. I’ll get onto adding it after replying to your message.
Age doesn’t matter as long as you’re enjoying yourself! (Hopefully no one takes this out of context 😂). Hopefully not, but probably future generations will never get to experience this. But it’s dope and keep up the practice. Once you get past the learning curve it will feel so amazingly satisfying!

How are you getting on with it? Any apparent issues?

I will start to try this. Know about rev matching / heel toe but was always stand off-ish to try it.

Take your time and enjoy the process. Make sure that the gear is in before getting to the bite point of the clutch and you should be good. It takes time to learn but it’s very rewarding. Good luck and update us on the progress!

I have 3.0 m57 diesel in my E91. And its pretty hard for me rev match it, maybe its because its a turbo engine, and engine reaction isnt that responsive as in N/A engine like yours 😢 but I will try. Despite, its diesel the throtle has a really decent reaction on accelerator for comparison to other dieseles in other car brands 😊, sometimes i forgot that it has a turbo 😂

I’ve learnt rev matching in a VW golf mk 5 1.9tdi. I moved to my 335xi with n54 (petrol twin turbo) and it was somewhat challenging since I’ve been driving diesel cars most of my life. ATM I can get into any car and feel it out in a matter of time. Currently I still rotate between that golf and my m3 and I never have to adjust myself back into specific car. It really just comes with time and actually understanding the things I’ve mentioned in the video.
So I don’t think it’s to do with turbos, but understanding how your throttle works when your gearbox isn’t engaged. So there is some rpm point that your turbos are charged and pull more. Try looking at rpm when you do downshift and see what’s going on and try to understand each mistake. Sounds boring, but understanding the car is key 🔑
Good luck on your journey and update the comment once you’ll progress!

18 minute video on this simple 5s concept, sigh

Then why do people fail or take long learning that 5s concept? If you think it’s just about the movement and nothing else then all the power to you

If you didn't have trouble understanding shorter videos on the concept, you wouldn't be here.
