When the subtitles are on, it says "music" during the engine noise. How accurate.
Hell yeah!
And applause

I just learned how to do this properly the other week. 30 years old and still learning. Cars don't seem to get old.
How did u downshift before hand??
So am I blipping while hanging gears or letting off clutch as I shift gears? It’s 50/50 successful for me lol. 1 week of driving stick so far
The Weekend Driver I’m 30 too, learning how to do this lol
@@forgivendrifter7326 Me too, I thought I knew how to drive all along

Now I understand why people rev their car/motorcycle a bit when they almost reach a traffic light. All this time I thought they were trying to show off or something
@Donald Trump "They had us in the first half. Not gonna lie"
Oh you can thank me then. I don’t downshift coming up to a traffic light. Good old Neutral and Brake there. :)
@@samsonder1835 Might as well extend the life of your brakes a little bit.
Bruh lol. Good thing you know now. Don’t be like one of those moms that look at you at the red light lol

Your M3 sounds amazing!!! :O
Bmx boxter right! What kind of car is it I have no clue what an M3 is lol

wblue10 328 and higher is sport. Do you even know your things. M is the premium sport models
The Clickbaiter ... why even post such a comment man, everything below M is not a sports car

Me:
-Requires some practice to do but with which car?
Dad:
-Not with my car.
Haha, very true when I was sixteen my father said his 2010 z06 was too expensive for me to burn the clutch. Instead he gave me a 1997 BMW V3 which was still not bad.
@@kbsrt5029 wow, rich

Probably an automatic anyways
Learning the technique is easy, but making sure you blip the throttle by the correct amount is hard!!! Sometimes I over-rev or under-rev the engine when I rev-match, so I still feel a bit of jolt in return. I'm only able to hit the correct RPM and get that seamless downshift a handful of times. 5th gear to 4th and 4th to 3rd is easy, but getting that perfect downshift from 3rd to 2nd takes a bit of practice in my opinion.
Corey Ng because 2 to third the gear ratios are farther apart so you have to blip it a little more
that's why most people don't bother rev matching from 3rd to 2nd, also a lot easier to blow up your engine doing that
Yeah I never downshift to second unless I need to go up a steep hill or if traffic is getting very slow
Dont you have to use more throttle.
@@ilasoiaf I usually downshift into 2nd when turning, considering that I'll end up in second gear when the turn is complete anyway, no
Just a correction, sorry if this was confusing at 2:10 I said "5th gear from 4th". I mean't to say 5th to 4th gear. DON'T REV MATCH going up a gear! lol, this wouldn't work that well. Only rev match on downshifts. Please thumbs up the video if this helped you! I'll be doing tutorials as often as I can. Snapchat me what you want a tutorial of next! SnapchatFam Checking in!! ThatFotographer. Much love!! - SB
you can try on a video game to
sure you can rev match on up shift . all your doing is buying more time to shift gear before rpm falls too low if you're shifting too slow. some engines have fast rpm drop so you can compensate a little bit, or just shift fast so no need for blowing.
Spencer Berke so when you press the clutch, do u simultaneously kick the gas and downshift?
Spencer Berke work s good in my 350z thanks
When i try this, do you absolutely have to kick the gas because i have a weird accelerator and when i kick it i cant get revs up so i just applied throttle and let the clutch out and i always hear the clutch slip and it burns
A bit of a car showing off (but who could blame you), but also the best and most simple video to understand in the sea of 10 minute long, yadda-yadda, no footwork / shifter cameras rev matching guides. 👌
i watched alot of downshift videos and they weren’t as helpful as this one, thanks for the time and effort editing this video together and uploading it, really helps man!!
You gotta take into consideration throttle response varies from car to car. Your average economy chevvy hatchback isn't gonna have the fastest throttle response or ability to rev quickly, so you might have to go from just blipping the gas to holding it down for a bit before disengaging the clutch.
typhoonfire8 or you could just buy the touring or nismo trim to have the revmatch feature👍
typhoonfire8 bruh I knew it wasn’t just me lmao I always thought the throttle response was so bad when it comes to rev matching
And yes we would’ve bought the sport package with the rev match feature but that doesn’t help you when you’re in another car
Before engaging* releasing the clutch pedal engages the clutch
Ed Garcia why purchase a manual car to do things properly in, just to let the car do even more things for you? Go get an auto which is exactly what you should be driving instead.
It seems my 2014 si coupe can’t rev match as good as this. I’d say I had 90% of what this guy did. Granted I’m new at it but I’m feeling towards that my si can’t rev match good at all.
Rev matching is good for fuel economy, smoothness, not locking up the wheels sending you into a guardrail or oncoming traffic. It's also cool. You get to rev the engine with purpose which sounds cool.
Your car sounds sick

This is an iconic comment😂
Lol first requires so much force to put it in vs 3ed. Idk how people do that.
What kinda car lets u go from 4th to 1st I'm tryna know
@@uzef73 every car lets you go from 4th to 1st.. However say goodbye to the car lmao.
Rev match is easy. Heel and toe while braking hard before turning in to a corner at maximum speed is another thing. Especially without abs. ;)
filleman1000 Smoking Tire has a tutorial showing exactly what you said.
Actually, when braking hard, I find heel toeing easier, when the braking isn't very heavy, sometimes my damn foot pushes on the brakes harder while trying to rev match
I have a six pack and I still find it hard
I also find it easier to heel-toe when I'm hard on the brakes. But when it comes to braking with extreme finesse and THEN performing the heel-toe downshift, I find myself blipping the throttle the wrong amount a lot of the times.
GO DJ HaKa m
Omg that BMW v8 with that exhaust setup and you're driving skills is badass to watch and listen to!
This is really difficult to master but it's awesome. I still mess it up sometimes but it really helps during overtaking maneuvers or when going up a steep slope.
That's true. No one wants to lose even a bit of momentum when about to tackle a grade (up- or down-hill) so this skill is a must-have on anyone who drives a stick. For sure, the truckers must be rolling their eyes longer than when this video was first posted.
Waiting for my clutch kit to come in for my newly purchased 97 ek civic, I’ve been watching your video sitting in the driver seat in the garage practicing
This actually helped out a lot I’m about to buy a 96 eclipse gs turbo and everyone is saying “rev match when you down shift” didn’t know what it was now I do and it’s so simple thanks man
Anybody else just watch this for amazing m3 v8 sounds? 😁😁
im pretty sure all the E90 or E92 models came with a V6....
@@vaaro_m nope the 6 cylinder BMW's are inline 6's not v6's . And the e90 is a v8 .
I absolutely love the sound of that exhaust!
the beauty of manual
this is the reason i love manual cars...
out of all the videos i’ve watched in the last 45 minutes you have been the most concise
Best downshift/rev matching video on UA-cam
I should really watch these videos when I’m in my car and not my bed. I’ll probably forget everything I watched when I get back into my car in the morning..
finally an angle by angle step by step view. really appreciate this vid!!!
Thanks for the video. This is the first technique to learn before going into heel-toe downshift as the latter is simply adding braking over it. But for many, like I did, I started with rev-match alone to simply master the downshift without braking at the same time.
Nice camera angles, well places, props to the several replay and repetition to see it done clearly.
This video is old just got a 2011 camaro ss been driving manual for about two weeks gonna start trying this soon instead of letting the clutch out and falling forward cheers mate 💪🙏
I think this is the most straight forward explanation I've seen
Finally a video that properly shows and demonstrates how to rev match, thank you!
Thank you so much for posting this video! I've asked three people to teach me and none of their explanations were as crystal clear as yours. Really appreciate the video, and the M3 sounds great!
This is the only video on rev matching Ive found that makes any sense, youre my hero
honestly that's when ur racing but if ur just cruising the streets all u need is ur engine breaking down shift not a Rev match downshift!!!..... BUT everyone has their own opinion but ur car's Badass and sound's badass aswell!!!!! great job on the Rev match downshift a lot of people r going to hurt THERE motor's and trannsmistions lol BUT that's what practice is ALL about I do it on my zx 10r!!! but took getting Used to because I would down shift without hit in the Gaston rev-match because I was actually using the clutch to let out slowly so that I kid and Jim break that's all so instead of using my brakes as much and wearing my brake pads out because I would think I was Evel Knievel could fly through the streets and needed all the brake power I can't get going into town you coming now or in the middle anyway great video, I am so glad I found ur Channel.....
I want to buy a stickshift car very badly now...
Did you? I just did. SO worth it! It is so much fun!
You should... Stick shift sports cars are the best regardless of make and model.
It's so much cheaper in my country so it's a great option.
That first drive home sucks but gonfir it. I’m looking to get back to a manual.
it's fun! :D and in my opinion automatics are not really that easy because the creep when you let off the break!my friend almost crashed his car like this lolz good thing you can't just remove that feature on tesla ;O
Out of every rev match video i’ve seen. This was the most fucking clear ones
Just got one of these as my first manual and this was really helpful lol
Ive watched a couple rev match tutorials and this is the best one thanks
Just bought a Cooper s R53 the blips alone sold me on rev matching 🤤🤤
I'm certain this is the best sounding m3 ever
That is one of the most amazing sounding m3s out there❤️❤️ subscribed!
Just came across this video again... I watched this a little after I got my Honda Accord about a year ago and this video helped me so much when I was first learning to rev match... thank you Spencer!!!
Achievement unlocked: Rev Matching God
There's another way to rev match (and it's more for deceleration): clutch in, feather the gas a little to rev match, and let the clutch come out. This is actually better for your clutch for obvious reasons. I use this when braking (I brake with my right foot and also put a little pressure on the gas pedal)
I don't know how much this will help your clutch in the long term, and it's obviously not useful for emergency braking, but it's also really fun. And that's mainly the reason why I do it XD
Lmao I just now understood rev-matching honestly thanks a lot
You explained that so well. Very cool. I drive a manual '04 Forester Sg9 and I habe never understood this rev matching thing until now
Well I just went and tried this out on the streets and all I can say is you make it look easy
something you forgot to mention, this is a fairly slower process with a turbo car, e90 V8's are very responsive! it takes me about twice this amount of time with my 2.0T Genesis coupe
Me as well with my wrx.
Disliked couldn't do this in my automatic ..... jk Spencer ! 😎 nice vid!
trade in your tricycle wheels (automatic) for a real car and learn what it's like to really enjoy driving.. especially if it's a manual BMW.. the ultimate driving machine. They have the best handling i've ever had even better than my old Mercedes-AMG (which have handbuilt racing engines)... BMW, not even an M, is faster but better handling and fun to drive.
Millionaires Club LLC I agree but I use my M3 every day and I drive a lot of miles, so I’ll stick to my DCT automatic thank you.
I never knew what shifting was until being in a BMW....that being said rev matching is easier to learn in a car like that vs a 1984 jdm pickup
revmatching and even heeltoe is not too hard in itself, but getting it consistent is not easy. it really helps me to try to be smooth instead of fast tho
This was the most detailed explanation and tutorial, THANK YOU!!!
out of all the vids about rev matching ive watched this is the one that made it all click for me! Thank you now i just have to learn how to apply it on the road through trial and error lol
Okay, I'm an idiot so I need a little bit of confirmation here to know if I learned and understood rev matching correctly.
Say I'm going from 4th to 3rd.
1. I push down onto the clutch pedal, disengaging the transmission from engine.
2. Shift down with the gear stick to change gears.
3. Tap the throttle pedal to rev the engine to match the speed of the transmission.
4. Let go of the clutch pedal to reconnect the two.
AbnormalInfant yes but you are also missing that you dont just blip the throttle and expect it to catch. you need to know your car as well. you have to give it the right amount of throttle inorder to pull off seemless downshifts.
AbnormalInfant that’s how I understand it also. I don’t know why this is being so difficult to me.
Disasterpiece5150
Well at first if you're just learning, you can blip the throttle without really thinking about the real "matching". Once you've gotten enough practice and a good feel for it, you should naturally have a feel of how much throttle you need to apply while rev matching.
This is the type of things that I can only learn by doing it.
Your car sounds so fucking awesome 👏 and I want to trade my e90 335i for an e93 m3
Jimmy Joseph you can make more power but less noise :(
True but I've always wanted a m3....my dream car and I like natural sounding engines
the famous "punta taco". nice vid bro. so many people doesn't now this!
Omg the sound of this M3 is intoxicating😍
I’ll bet your Tesla’s can’t do this...😂😂
You explained it the best. Didn't know all you had to do was give a little bit of gas with the clutch down.
I naturally always blipped when downshifting. Sounded so nice I did it a lot and learned how to do it nicely
dad taught me stick and he said i had to blip it while in neutral, not just while the clutch is in. BIG help, thanks
i like when people get to the point in a video
M3 SOUNDS AMAZING
This was amazing because I’m literally learning to do this on the same car your epic
This really helped me with figuring out what to do with the throttle. I was never giving it enough and my car would always lurch forward a tad. Thanks
great tutorial … I learned this on my Z4M. Ultimately the sound is addictive....
i love s65 motors, and e90s very under appreciated but i love it man!!
Nice lesson. I enjoyed the different camera angles. Thanks for putting this together.
I just started learning to drive yesterday. Why am i even watching this today.
me on a sunday lol
I’m happy I learned this at an early age. I use it both in cars and motorcycles. My friends and brother always wondered what I was doing. They thought I was just showing off lol. I need to work on my heel-toe technique tho.
Correct me if I am wrong but the other reason for rev matching/heel toeing as far as I am aware is it keeps the car better balance when braking and gearing down for a corner and stops compression lock up.
Doing this on a 1.2 75 hp... Yeah its okay, but the sound is just you know "lighter"😊
Same here hahahaha but 65hp clio
It may not be the fastest but at least it burns 7l/100km
69hp C1 🤣
I love the e60 m5 which is a v10 but this m3 and the v8 in it just sounds amazing and the car is just great
Finally a good video on this move :D
You explained it so well... Kudos 🎉.
Engineering explained & throttle house didn't explain well.
This is a easy way.. Here in europe its learned that you have to get in neutral first, then press the throttle to get ur rpm on the right amount and THEN clutch back to the previous gear..
That's one of the most retarded thing I've heard of.
i liked you video cuz you had a great mic, proabbly from that pro camera. the sound is excellent,..keep up the awesome work!
Wow, your engine sounds great! Thanks for sharing!
I'm revmatching so much now that my engine always jumping from happiness under the hood
Jumping out of the engine bay?
I am currently working on this technique. Hoping to be as smooth as you someday
Thank you for this I was confused on how to do it properly!!

Looking great brother. I love the new way the channel is heading
i know how to rev match just came here to hear this baby
gonna buy a manual early next year, watching all the manual vids i can!!
I'm still learning and trying to perfect it. there are times that it's just too much gas. i do it a lot when I'm riding my motorcycles though.
Bro thank you, your Videos is loud and clear 🙏
I rev match flawlessly yet here I am watching this anyway lol.

Thank you so much for your content! Im buying first manual car this weekend!
I love manual transmissions ♥
What a sound that car makes 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 great video as well
finaly good explanation! thanks Spencer!
I didn’t realise that this was hard or something people wanted to do. I’m a relatively new driver and do this anyway by default for smooth gear changes
Amazing tutorial and rev matching! I've been driving my STI for 6 years now and trying to master the rev matching. I suck haha.
How????
That is one good sounding M3. Thanks for the video.
Bro ur car looks and sounds beautiful
You could also double clutch it to match the syncros in the box, but it's a bit more advanced
