- This is how to get started driving a Manual Transmission. A pedal camera will show the footwork while we drive my Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 . We'll review it all from the basics of how it works, to getting you up a hill from a stop. I'll also show you how to downshift with proper rev matches and an introduction to heel toe downshifting so you can brake and downshift at the same time.

My 2024 mustang gt 5.0 has active rev matching. I didn't think id like it but i actually love it. Haven't taken it to the track yet though. But its good for driving it around town.
And the thing i absolutely love about it. Is that its the first year where it has the screens for the CENTER AND DASHBOARD! Its so clean. I can't believe it took them this long to do it!

Even though I have driven a manual for over a decade and I know how to rev-match, this is the only video that shows learning it with a 500rpm baseline. I think that addition will make a big difference for someone. For some reason when I was learning it, I thought you had to add more gas for every gear you go down. Great teaching.

I’ve driven manual multiple times before but never owned one personally and I’m debating on getting a manual to replace my daily. I think my biggest takeaway from this video is seeing that you’re not hitting the brake pedal every single time to slow down and downshift. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong but I guess it’s just knowing when to engine brake and when to utilize all 3 pedals? Also great advice with the 500rpm-1000rpm blip range. Most instructional videos just say what to do but don’t mention how much gas to actually give it when rev matching. Thanks again 🤝🏾

Just got my gt, it’s tough feeling out the speeds for shifts, I’m really just shifting on random ass rpm’s right now 😂…practicing everyday though, man them downshifts are tough too, thought it was more of a specific rpm for each downshift but it’s really more feel, the blip thing is new to me, so is coming to a stop in neutral without holding full clutch out, I was told coming to a stop in neutral holding clutch wouldn’t be bad because the clutch isn’t grinding when it’s fully opened up, but idk
The "500 rpm blip" is good for close gear ratios like his gt350 or pre 2019 gt model years. The revised MT82-D4 has taller gears, so you can't really just blip 500 RPMs like in the older cars. Each gear is spaced out much further and requires different RPM blips depending on speed and what gear you're in. Ford messed up when they redid the gearing on the "newer" mustangs
So what ls the timing on the blip? Like as soon and you clutch and downshift or all one synchronized movement?
He’s the first guy to state that this car does NOT have auto rev match. Everyone else you watch always says differently.
if i’m low enough in rpms and, for example, i want to downshift 2 gears, couldn’t i just go from 6th straight to 4th skipping 5th?
can you blip at any speed? and do you blip when slowing down so you can accelerate faster after someone turned? and also blip for engine brakes? and last question how do I not chirp the wheels lol? thanks

I’ve been driving my new manual 2000 GT for about a month now, I’m comfortable driving it, I can’t heel toe (gas sits higher then brake) but I’ve managed around it. However there’s one thing I haven’t figured out. How do I do pulls without bucking or disrupting the clutch while going through gears? Power shifting is my only problem
3->2 downshift is so hard for me. Sometimes i over rev it and then othertimes i under rev it.

2 part question from a beginner. When your "rev matching" you are trying to keep the rpm at the same level when you down shift? And second does it matter where in the rpm range you down shift from? Love the videos. Gonna save this video for when i get my gt350 and practice! Keep it up ears!

2. Yes it does. If you’re too high in the RPM you obviously don’t want to downshift close to the rev limit. If you are low in the RPM you want to rev match up to the point where you aren’t going too low for the gear you are in. Sounds confusing but go 30 in 5th gear you’ll know/feel what I mean!

You can but it will burn your clutch significantly faster
I get confused with the Shelby why is 1st and Reverse in the same location it took me a while to get the hang of reverse in the mustang Shelby you have to lift the gear to put it in reverse, whereas my Honda had the reverse gear in the far right so you wouldn’t get confused with 1st and reverse.

down shifting... step by step... clutch, shift down, gas 500 blip and then release clutch ?
It depends on the car but that's it pretty much. In my car when I downshift from 4th to 3rd for example and it's the same for 3rd to 2nd I need to clutch in, down shift and at the same time or immediately after down shifting while clutch is still in, rev to 2500 rpm (approx) let go of clutch and gas like normal. My car is a 5 speed hyundai so a 6 speed may be different
