    That is some crazy diff numbers there........Were you running a 2cell or 3cell with this rig?

    • @krlaturn
      @krlaturn  3 роки тому

      I ran 3s primarily with a low kv motor. Not sure why you’d think these are crazy diff numbers? This is a Rock Racer. Locking the diffs up as much as possible but allowing some give to save the drivetrain is the idea here. That way power will go to all four wheels when crawling over rocks rather than diffing out. But diff settings are a preference I suppose. This is a common setup for rock racing and monster trucks

    Wanted to pick your brain. I have the Baja Rey which I know you use to have. My question is in regards to the torque steer. At full throttle I believe the front diffs out making it shoot left. Any suggestions on what diff weight to run in the center and front ? I have read on other forms to run 10k in the center and 5K in the front and I did so, and no changes. I also seen someone say 30k in the center and lite grease/open in the front, I am currently set up like that and no difference. I'm somewhat novice to RC and trying to figure out how to make it track straight at full throttle. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I mainly drive it on a small short course track we have out here but I also like to take it out on the street and do fast passes. Thanks in advance.

    Great video! I have new RR RTR and definitely need to slow it down to make it more user-friendly. Would you still recommend the motor swap that you did on this build? I would like to use the original ESC to try to keep cost down.

    • @krlaturn
      @krlaturn  4 роки тому +1

      Sean Reina yes, the 3100kv is a great motor and dirt cheap! Way smoother than the stock

    • @seans.youtube
      @seans.youtube 4 роки тому

      I went ahead and ordered that motor on eBay last night, wanted to get your opinion as to whether or not there are any other upgrades you would do while I was in there swapping the motor? I was thinking about throwing in a locker that I saw you use and also changing the gear to provide a little better crawling capability. Any suggestions?

    • @krlaturn
      @krlaturn  4 роки тому +1

      Sean Reina the motor is quick and easy to change our due to the access plate on the bottom. If you are running 2s the stock pinion is fine. But I’d recommend changing to the included smaller pinion gear if you are running 3s. As far as the center locker goes. It requires quite a bit of work to get into the center gearbox. But locking the center does help with rock crawling. It just depends on your plans of how you run it. If you want to go fast primarily I’d keep the center diff stock

      Bulletproof RC , since my RR was originally a RTR, it didn’t come with any extra gear. So I’m thinking maybe a 10T like you used in your kit would probably be my best bet? Speed (or loss of) is not a concern. Better control on the rocks is my goal. Thanks for all your help!

    • @krlaturn
      @krlaturn  4 роки тому +1

      Sean Reina you needn’t worry about speed. The RR is way over geared out of the box! It’s still going to be fast on 3s with that motor and a 10t pinion

      I've started with this servo and arm when the rack is off back order I will be installing it also, I can see the stock parts flex . Since there is not a subtrim setting in the Dx2e did you just use trim to set the steering straight and lose a little travel to the one side that the arm just didn't center up on the output shaft? I've tried the travel adjust settings and mine must already be at 150%, I'm just not getting full left but it is of course going past full lock on right. I haven't seen a programmer for this servo.

    Just want to point out that it is not the same as the Baja rey. The rear axle has added material around the third member and gussets to prevent flexing and help the bearing last longer. The front and rear differentials also use underdrive gearing to help prevent torque twist and reduce the strain on the housings.

    • @krlaturn
      @krlaturn  7 років тому

      Russell Johnson
      Yes I did notice that, but I'm still hearing from people who have had bearing blowouts. Keep in mind this vehicle also has larger tires and a motor with higher torque than the Baja Rey. I'm glad Losi made the vehicle more durable but they should have at least upped the bearing size. 5x10 is super small for a ring and pinion..

    • @rjohn929

      I understand. I have both. I didn't say it fixed the problem. Just saying that it's beefed up to help and not the same as you stated in the video.

      Chris Knowles the blue $25 motor will fix the cogging. The leopard 2200kv actually didn’t fit because of the motor shaft being too long.

Out of the box the signal or something isn't working. i randomly lose control about 20 ft away and then i have to walk back towards the truck and it will at a random distance click back on and the truck will respond again. the distances are I consistent so I don't feel it is the primary reason. any idea what this could be? I just added a Hobbywing Xerun sensored 3600kv motor and ESC to my rock rey. I also put 1million weight diff fluid in the center diff. Setting the gear mesh is confusing. It really seemed that the best position was the stock one. Hard to check it with the paper shim, but it seems right. At the same time their is a lot of vibration. I'm wondering if that's because they use a really thick silicone lube on the gears and I switched it to a molybdenum grease. Any tips? Sound normal? It doesn't seem to sound bad with the wheels on the ground.

    • @krlaturn
      @krlaturn  7 років тому

      Salmonaxe223
      My later video I installed a 2500kv sensored setup. The vibration you hear with the wheels off the ground is the rear plastic drive shaft. At full droop the drive shaft is at an awkward angle and binds slightly. I eventually locked my center diff with the Vaterra locker and put 1million weight in the front diff to aid in crawling. The pinion mesh is easy once you notice the small numbers on the motor plate. The holes are marked with what position the motor should be at depending on the pinion gear size you choose.

    • @Salmonaxe223
      @Salmonaxe223 7 років тому

      Bulletproof RC I ended up adding an SSD axial wraith driveshaft (filed the ends to fit) because the stock one's pin was impossible to remove so I drilled it out. I still heard the sound with the driveshaft out. I noted the pinion numbers and stuck to the stock pinion. There are other holes in the upper right of the plate, so I thought that they might allow for fine adjustments, but it didn't seem to be consistent. (Only one position worked). I was just hoping that it wasn't going to shred itself. I never really tried to run it not under load, so the sound was alarming. Observed mesh was close to what I get when i normally setup other gear meshes. Did you lube the transmission gears with that really heavy weight silicon that comes stock?

    • @krlaturn
      @krlaturn  7 років тому

      Salmonaxe223
      I used grease front and rear. Left the center dry because I read dirt can get in and adhere to the grease causing more wear

      I had bought the bnd one on sale and I was clueless when it came to solid axle trucks at the time and I didn't like how it had so much torque steer and also how easy it would roll over so I sold it for what i paid for it. I still regret it and now they are discontinued. But I made up for it by trading for a super rock rey a couple weeks ago that I can't wait to run!

    When u put the thicker diff oil does that decrease. The speed
    Can u also explain y people want to lock a diff

    • @krlaturn
      @krlaturn  5 років тому

      I’ll try to explain. A Rock Rey comes with a locked diff in the rear. “When you spin one rear wheel the other rear wheel spins the same direction”. The front of the rock Rey comes with an open diff. “When you spin one front wheel the other front wheel rotates the opposite direction”. The Rock Rey also has a open center diff. “If you rotate both rear tires, both front tires will rotate the opposite direction. An open center diff allows the front and rear tires to spin at different speeds. This allows power from the motor to shift to the wheels with low traction. An front open diff aids in turning by allowing both front tires to spin at different speeds. Locking a diff will make all wheels turn the same direction at the same speed no matter what. This will help if navigating rocks is your thing. Open diffs are for handling speed. Putting in different thickness oil inside the diff is a tuning option. Thicker diff oil goes inside the differential so it does not slow the car down. Hope this helps

    • @krlaturn
      @krlaturn  5 років тому +1

      Take a look at the video in the link below. Thicker diff oil would go only on the spider and planetary gears. Only grease would go on the pinion and ring gears.
