    9:48 it's stipa pulcherrima (=S. barbata). It fits toghether with Limonium latifolium.
    And the other grass is probably Melica ciliata.

    This is lovely to see a modern RHS garden built. I lived in Salford for 5 years and love city based green spaces.
    Thanks for taking the time to share your day. What a beautiful cake to end your special day.

    Reference your poor husband!! My late husband would have called it a dose of Large hand, small map syndrome when you were talking about the rill and paddling pond. When I used to come up with ideas he would say “ Is this another fine mess you are getting me into”😂😂

Also, I like your idea of putting a block of color or multiple plants of one color in borders for continuity. Happiest of Birthdays to you! May God bless you greatly in the year to come!

      Oh wow, mine are planted under the hornbeam and so, like yours only get sun for half the day. I wondered why some of the flowers look a bit funny, it’s called ‘fasciation’ (I didn’t know that but I’ve just googled it!). I had no idea about this and I have learnt this from you, so thank you. I will put mine in full sun too in my top borders.

    Can you recommend an evergreen hedge, that doesn't flower please?

    • @MurphysGarden
      @MurphysGarden  Рік тому +1

      Yew is a top choice and is easy to grow and in my experience trouble free if grown on free draining soil. It makes a good backdrop to more showy flowers and plants. There are dwarf varieties if you want just a small hedge.
      I did a video called ‘Best Evergreen trees’ and many on that list also make excellent hedges. There are a few that have some small inconspicuous flowers, I think Portuguese Laurel and Eleagnus make lovely evergreen hedges but both have a small flower.
      Box of course is great too but may be more risky with blight and box 🐛 caterpillar. RHS Wisley did a box alternative trial which you could check out, pittosporum looks lovely but not as hardy in colder climates
      Hope this helps

      @@MurphysGarden do evergreens also keep wasps away? My garden is very small, so when sitting outside, I don't want wasps too close

    • @MurphysGarden
      @MurphysGarden  Рік тому +1

      Is that why you don’t want them with flowers? We’ve never had wasps in any of our hedges but the yew does sometimes seem to attract flies at certain times of the year and one of our box balls has an ants nest in it! Have you considered beech? I know it’s not evergreen but it holds onto its leaves and gives good privacy all year once established and looks beautiful, but maybe you don’t want to have to pick
      up leaves? What you choose depends on so many different factors- size, colour maintenance. Have you watched my hedge video? It features the most common hedges but perhaps I should do a video on more unusual ones and there really are some great ones that I didn’t even consider as I hadn’t heard of them when I was just planning the garden, things like ilex crenata and Osmanthus (both evergreen but have flowers)
      Good luck which you choose
