  • In this video I’m answering a popular question which is…in the videography world, what is color space...aka color gamut? I’m going to answer that plus show you how they’re represented, their relationship to bit rate and try and sum up what it all means in layman’s terms and give you some recommendations too.

      Color space and gamut are not the same. Gamut is the amount of color you can display from the color space. The camera also has a native color science that is bigger than the color space that is rendered.

    Awesome video, very educational. What color space did you use when you had the a7iii?... Happy new year!

      The a7 III can only record in 8-bit, which is why it's not recommended to shoot in LOG on older cameras like that because when shooting LOG below 10-bit you get color banding.. :/

    Hello hurv 👋 I just want to know what gamut should I select on my camera monitor ' bt2020/dcip3/rec709 or cinema' specially for videography. Thanks 🙂

    do you need to setup white balance with using gamut?

    If you a Sony shooter with 8 bit camera, try to use S-Log2 and SGamut3.cine and make a lut for this profile with LutCalc. I prefer output gamma as LC709A and gamut Rec.709. Also you may customise your black and white points and get different exposure compensation.

      Since SGamut3.cine doesn't have color shift like a usual SGamut or SGamut3 do, please just stick with it if you are shooting Log on Sony.

    Use a larger color space as much as possible, then use color space conversion in post-editing to the color space you want.

    Would it be kind of sort of fair to say that Gamut is like contrast but for colour!?

    • @HarvVideoAudioStuff
      @HarvVideoAudioStuff  2 роки тому +2

      Hmm maybe the colour equivalent of gamma 🤔 it’s really hard to sum up in a short sentence!

      @@HarvVideoAudioStuff What I am going for here is not so much a technical analogy...but more in terms of how it affects the viewer when they see an image...

    How many colors can humans perceive?

    • @HarvVideoAudioStuff
      @HarvVideoAudioStuff  2 роки тому +2

      This is an interesting subject, humans can perceive an unusually high number/variety in the green area of the spectrum. We need someone with a background in the sciences to comment on this 😄

    My favorite gamut is the one in my shitty Canon SL2. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
