Hi Gigi, I work at a fertility center and I want to reassure you there ARE still options for you to have a biological baby. IVF with ICSI is an option please ask your REI about it and also about the TESE procedure is another option. Hoping you’ll see this and consider a second opinion.

Chanel Eilish IVF with ICSI is when we take 1 sperm and inject the sperm into an egg in our lab. Usually, a normal semen sample needs to have millions of sperm in order for it to be a good sample. However, with ICSI we don’t need millions - we only need a very small quantity. So if there are let’s say 8 eggs, we only need 8 single sperm. IVF with ICSI is a great option for those couples who have male factor fertility issues.
And, believe it or not, if a semen sample comes back with zero sperm, the TESE procedure is a way we can biopsy and aspirate sperm straight from the testicle. In almost all cases, even when there are no sperm in a sample, we can find a few sperm by biopsy.
That’s why I was concerned hearing that the lab Gigi went to wouldn’t freeze, even if there wasn’t a strong sample. I have questions, but it doesn’t matter. What matters is Gigi hopefully hears all available options for her.

You might call them back and let them know you had a misshape and had to scrap your sample off the wall. I would think that would of been bad for the health of your sperm. I would have to question if that didn’t affect your sample.

    • @brittanytaylor2247

ilovemymike100 with adoption I agree, maybe she is thinking fostering? I know with fostering here in Canada, foster homes are more temporary than adoption! @@gracieshepardtothemax1743 you're right maybe she's referring to adoption. It's hard when our foster kiddos have to reunite with bio family, but at the same time it's the best feeling knowing we've helped our foster kiddo and their parents get their lives in order. As foster parents, we know reunification is the goal and we do our best to help the bio parents in any way we can. Unfortunately, the foster care system is so broken. Giving the kids back to parents that have worked their plan and go above and beyond to get their kids back is amazing. Unfortunately, there's many cases where kids go back to unsafe homes. That's the tough part. Foster parents dont have a lot of legal rights, but adoptive parents do.

Gigi! This made me laugh & cry. I’ve only been watching your videos on and off for a little over a year but I just want to thank you for sharing your story. You told it beautifully. Even though the result was not what you hoped for the fact that you jumped over (& through) that obstacle with grace & wit shows true perseverance and a great example of your character. You will be an excellent parent when the time arrives!

Gigi, I used to watch your videos years and years ago. You were an inspiration for me to see how you were able to find your gender and be proud of who you are. Since then I have watched your videos rarely just to see what you've been up to, and you're so beautiful and I love seeing how much of a role model you are. It is so amazing that you and your fiance are trying to have a family and you should be so proud to be doing as much as you can for your family. No matter what comes out of this situation, if you two end up having a child, they will have two very loving mothers.

First, you are amazing for sharing this and all the other facets of your life for others to share with you and learn from. Second, after listening to your disappointing experience with the sperm bank, I’m so relieved from reading the comments from people letting you know there are still options. It’s true, it’s 2019 and there are so many medical developments out there now for just about everything. Don’t give up. I believe there are still more options for you and Nats to conceive. Continue to explore the options. On another note, I just finished listening to your book on audio books. Your story is incredible. I have to confess, I hadn’t actually known of you until seeing you speak in person at the LA Times Festival of books last weekend. Passing by, I stopped to listen to you speak to the audience and immediately was interested in reading your book. I downloaded it and I have just finished. And I’ve gone on to subscribe to your videos. You’re an incredible person, with a great sense of humor and wonderful view of the world. Adoption may not be for everyone but it is an incredibly selfless open minded, loving, decision to make with humanity in mind.
In my case I have some heritable diseases in my family that I don’t wish to pass on, so I to plan to adopt and will love the child just as much as a child I would have biologically.

Gigi, it would have been way better if you froze your sperm before transitioning. It can be kept for decades if done right. I know they asked me to do that before I completely transitioned. I was so horrified by the idea of doing that that I said no thank you, but still I hope it works out well for you. After so many years on hormones it might be extremely difficult to get the sperm count back to normal. When I started hormones 5 years ago they warned me that even a single year of hormones could probably damage everything beyond repair. I had my sex reassignment surgery after 1 year of hormones, and when my husband and I want a child we will probably go for adoption. There are so many children in the world who you could give a better life and future. It might not be your own DNA, but I promise you that you'll love an adopted child just as much. Of course I wish for both of you that you can still get pregnant. Wishing you the best of luck.
To other people who consider a transition: FREEZE SPERM BEFORE STARTING HORMONES. It's your best shot at your own baby even after transitioning.

I love that you’re so open about this, it’s so informative, and truly lets people know questions they are curious about. I’m lucky and one of my best friends is FTM, and I’m pansexual, so there’s always a chance of me finding out my soulmate wasn’t actually hit by a bus full of nuns, and is trans, so I love these videos; and my good friend who is very open with allowing me to ask questions if i want to know something. It’s also helped me a lot in my career as a paramedic, especially with sensitivity, but it’s also made me want to educate more people on trans health in emergency medicine. I’m still trying to learn more, like right now, it’s extremely important for me to know what someone was assigned at birth, because if we MOMENTARILY take it down to two genders, the ones assigned at birth, males & females have different symptoms for life threatening emergencies, like a heart attack. Females (assigned at birth) unlike Men (AAB) are more likely to experience pain in the epigastrium area, instead of chest pain-can that change with hormone replacement, especially after long term replacement?Honestly, I do not know, and it’s something that there are not enough studies on to say either way. I absolutely hate asking the question of gender assigned at birth, but honestly, right now at least, it’s important to know. Watching your videos, and just hearing your experiences, has taught me so much, and has made me continue to want to learn and know more. Thank you! 🙏🏼
