At one point awhile back, they mentioned low pressure die casting. Evidently, it's kinda like the presses that make the body panels only with molten metal.
@@AndyTernay I think Fred was talking about actual vehicles for sale. They can build 100 prototypes, but if they don't sell anything they might as well be on the Elio track.
Looking good so far! Carbon fiber rotors (expensive..) will solve a significant portion of unsprung weight issues as well as inertial mass to spin up/down. Might be worth a look as the car is all about efficiency and this is an easy major weight savings. If it costs an addl $1k to car it might be an option. ZR1 aftermarket carbon rotors are around $1.5k/ea.. but this car will require much smaller rotors. Not sure if anyone makes carbon rotors that small..
Thanks for the video. Love your work. Very inspiring. I wish the factory I work in would take a tour of your facility just to learn how to dream bigger.

The aluminum parts were beautiful. This will be such a success and i think most don't even know its coming. Probably can't talk about FSD lol The roads of the near future will be Tesla, Aptera and classic restomods in a sci-fi landscape. Beautiful.
I absolutely love the Aptera design! The sleek, aerodynamic shape is so futuristic and functional. I haven’t had the chance to get in one yet, but I imagine the unique entry/exit could be a bit tricky. However, with future iterations, I could see them expanding the passenger compartment slightly to make it more accessible and even improving the interior height. It would be amazing to see a 'van' version of the Aptera, maintaining that core design but offering even more space for passengers without losing the iconic look and efficiency. On top of that, I wonder if Aptera is exploring the inclusion of self-driving technology in future versions - it would be great to see them leading the charge in that area as well, combining sustainability with cutting-edge automation!
This writers EV rear camera is USELESS in the rain, or covered in mud or ice. NO rain-x does not solve the issue. Since the Aptera is blind sans cameras--how will this view of the world work in real life? Tesla drivers, please chime in.
They say they made it thinner in the PIs but it looks pretty wide to me and right at eye level. That by itself, would normally be a dealbreaker for me.
Steve, Chris, Sandy, Aptera, and Menro engineers, you’re doing a great job! I’ve been following for years and I’m excited about Aptera’s progress. I’d join in a heartbeat, but California is too expensive for me. If Aptera expands to the Midwest, I’d apply immediately. A few quick thoughts: High-pressure die casting for the frame seems like a solid approach, but make sure it fits your manufacturing needs based on volume. Consider using composites for added strength. Keep the steering wheel simple-remember KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid). I’m not a fan of the yoke design; lessons from Tesla and Toyota show it’s not ideal. The steering wheel should be adjustable for tilt and distance to ensure comfort, as Sandy seemed to struggle with it in the video. The rear hatch design should be shorter, to avoid damage in small collisions, like with shopping carts. I’m concerned about the lack of a rear crash member, but I understand it's too late to change that. A crash structure would be reassuring. I’m glad the solar glass is durable, but a protective film, like on smartphones, would help with longevity since glass can crack. Ensure thorough water leak testing-no one wants to deal with mold or extra weight from water. I’d love a 5-point harness option for those who want to use the Aptera for racing or weekend fun. The door panel gaps are still a question, but I’ll reserve judgment until it’s fully built. Overall, I’m impressed. Aptera could be a game-changer for solo commuters. I’m ready to contribute my third round of funding, as long as you maintain control and focus on building a functional, affordable vehicle. Keep pushing forward-don’t be like Tesla, do better!
Good amount of thought and work gone in to this, my own concern is it maybe more complex than needed. Some areas could be simplified which would really help when it comes to mass production.
@@fredbloggs5902I thought they were not going to produce anything. That’s what you said above. Now you think they will produce 100. Clearly you confidence in Aptera is growing!
I loved the Aptera when it was ICE (over 10 years ago) when it rose from the ashes as EV and had the chance I put my money where my mouth is and reserved/bought shares, my only concern was in wheel motors, nice idea but UK water and HV electrics dont mix. Im so encouraged by the sanity of the design direction with carbon body and drive shafts. My hope is 0-60 4 seconds or less is still there.
For me, I don't care about that kind of accleration. It just eats up the tires and I wan my tires to last over 100K miles. Well, I'd proabably change them out for snow tires in the winter though.

The solar powered aircraft tug is a Trepel Challenger 280e at Salt Lake City Airport, operated by Delta. There are videos about it, pretty cool
😁Sandy, Steve, and Chris, Good day from Goonellabah, NSW, Australia. The Aptera is fabulous. I can't wait to see the finished product.
🤗Cheers, Ian Cleland
The car grandpa with no filter likes it! What a great endorsement! Thank you!
Finally, an in depth look at the components and construction. The short videos are nice but they leave a lot of questions unanswered.
Short video? It's 40 minutes. What were you looking to have answered? We could probably help answer some of them.
@@artboymoy You need to read my reply again.
I thought this thing was dead nice to see an update … now I want one
Very impressed, well done.
Excellent video!!! Opening of I+D development , Warm greetings from Uruguay!!!
Great video on a great product. Here is hoping they can actually get them on the street in volume!
I'm really looking forward to when they have the production line going through its paces
I"m with you. Very interested in seeing the PI2 on the track and if the numbers line up.
Great video - timely and stress-lowering! Happy to see Jason Hill.
I really have high hopes on Aptera. Please keep the good work guys ❤❤❤
Learned about this from Aptera's UA-cam channel. I'm rooting for them!
🙋♂️THANKS SANDY AND MUNRO 🤗 FOR THE TOUR AND INFO ℹ️😎🔋🔋🔋
Fascinating. Would love to see more of the videos about unconventional but brilliant products
thank you sandy for your valuable recommendation for production of the metal parts.
And you could see Sandy’s mind turning when asked about the additional $$ needed… not sure if it was about him or someone he knows
Fantastic video explaining so much and getting me enthusiastic about this new EV. Monroe is such a gem. Very impressed with the two CEO’s. The NOX Reference was hilarious
I am READY TO BUY !!! Bring this car to Europe !!!
Unfortunately current legislation won't let them. And they can't afford a redesign to make it narrower yet (nor will the CCS connector fit in the back). So I think it's going to be a while.
@xxwookey bouhhhhhh
Excited for delivery ASAP.
This is my dream car!
You mean your dream auto cycle. This is not a car and doesn’t have to meet automotive crash requirements.

Great video. I loved looking at the parts. Also that Sandy is still giving them advice, like don't sand cast the chassis. To me, that seemed like the only major production related problem to overcome (aside from money).
agreed that ali chassis looked like sono motors chassis.was shocked when i saw how inefficient sono was.i hope these guys make to production promises in combat tho.just ask fiskar.
At one point awhile back, they mentioned low pressure die casting. Evidently, it's kinda like the presses that make the body panels only with molten metal.
Most definitely a look of the future……….well done !
Best part is the look is derived from function. A double win!
@@ronfarnsworth7074
Correct… they have become Masters of that!
I have been waiting so long for this vehicle. It is the ultimate prepping vehicle.
Good to hear some production for next year.
Love the design.
I don’t believe they’ll produce anything.
@@fredbloggs5902well, you’re already incorrect. They’ve produced Alpha, Beta, Gamma and PI 1. PI 2 & 3 are being built as I type this.
@@AndyTernay I think Fred was talking about actual vehicles for sale. They can build 100 prototypes, but if they don't sell anything they might as well be on the Elio track.
I really hope this project goes all the way .... And becomes a full success.
Great video. Vegas would love those especially airport to casinos and more! 😎👍
Wow! Great video ! Early reservation holder. Believing in the dream
Good video. Small steps towards a Big product! 👍👍🇨🇦
Great work Aptera! Would love one of these here in the sunny UK.
Sarcasm? "sunny UK"
You'd be lucky if there is one there in the early 30ies.

Seeing production intent Aptera at January's Scottsdale Barret Jackson with 500k+ attendees would be nice.
Plz plz plz!!!
Well, they are working on PI3 and 4 in tandem so maybe...
thank you for munro channel, also have followed this aptera car like car.
Eric Koston in the back pushing mongo for a sweet switch flip on that immaculate ground. Would love to skate in there. Also, can’t wait for my Aptera!!😃
I had an ELF made in North Carolina with pedals, motor, battery, and solar panel, looking forward to something like it with suspension!!
27:40 IMO talk to TBM brakes, they make the lightest brake rotors
Good engineering requires adherence to physical law. That makes good engineering virtuous and, usually, beautiful. I love Aptera!
Hopefully they can bring it to the market one day.
I'm de-pledging my allegiance to the FF 91 2.0 Futurist Alliance and putting next months dues toward my Aptera reservation!!! HUZZAH!!!
The aluminum parts were beautiful. This will be such a success and i think most don't even know its coming. Probably can't talk about FSD lol The roads of the near future will be Tesla, Aptera and classic restomods in a sci-fi landscape. Beautiful.
ali parts machined and expensive they gotta start somewhere tho.aptera needs a runway like a tenth of tesla, lucid or rivian thats all
It’s impossible to manufacture like this.
I put in a reservation at the same time I reserved a CT. Canceled the CT with the increased price and Elon going nutz. Can't wait for this one!
You’ll be waiting even longer for a product that will never achieve the claimed figures.

Excellent!
10:35 side view mirrors were a great invention in 1921. Cameras rule.
This writers EV rear camera is USELESS in the rain, or covered in mud or ice. NO rain-x does not solve the issue. Since the Aptera is blind sans cameras--how will this view of the world work in real life? Tesla drivers, please chime in.

Testing will hopefully resolve this issue… I love that Aptera reads most everything

26k in line for mine.
Cant wait but i have to!
Go Aptera!
Really cool car - wish they could figure out a way to combine the two side windows and remove that bar blocking vision.
They say they made it thinner in the PIs but it looks pretty wide to me and right at eye level. That by itself, would normally be a dealbreaker for me.
I love playing the Sandy Munro drinking game, "At the end of the Day" I'm feeling pretty good 😊.
Up there with the "that ain't going anywhere" game for FarmCraft
Love your product
Good amount of thought and work gone in to this, my own concern is it maybe more complex than needed. Some areas could be simplified which would really help when it comes to mass production.
So cool.
I wish they would increase production capacity because my reservation is near 10,000. Can’t wait for delivery.
Currently they have ZERO production.
@ Duh, everyone knows that. Their production plan for first year is about 6K and that’s not enough for the huge backlog.
@@johnpoldo8817They’ll be lucky to produce 100 in that timeframe.
I would like to see those solar cells on Tally Ho and see how they perform on a working wooden boat
