@MsMojo I am glad that you liked my comment, but you had given your official like to a ViktorBluzma who somehow has my exact same comment. I was the original writer, posted at the 20 hour mark right now with 4 likes, so I hope you will make the correction. "Thank you for including Sammy Davis Jr on this list. He was one of my father's favorite entertainers--such a remarkable, talented man. Also good to see Donald O'Connor. He is sometimes overlooked because of Astaire and Kelly, but he deserves to be remembered too."
The innovations of Gene Kelly's Routines are absolutely incredible. As someone who can't rollerskate to save his life, "I Like Myself" was particularly impressive.

And, let’s not forget that while filming the title song scene. Kelly had a 104 fever and did that scene in 1 take… that makes gene Kelly one of the best of the golden age to my mind!
Gene Kelly deserves every spot on those 10. My mother was a dance partner of his in Pittsburgh in the early days. She always said he was a true gentleman and a great dancer.
Thank you. Great, amazing selection from Hollywood's true Golden Era. My all-time favorites are the ultr-talented Fred, Gene,... and Donald O'Connor.💎💯
James Cagney was fantastic in Yankee Doodle Dandy. The Oscar he won for it was definitely deserved. One of my favorite musicals ever, and movies in general.
People seem to forget that James Cagney started as a vaudeville hoofer, and are surprised that he can sing and dance. They are more used to watching his bad guy roles.
I'd also throw in Broadway Melody from SINGIN' IN THE RAIN as an honorable mention! It's mostly centered around GK, but with other dancers floating in and out throughout.
Very very great epic list I like it a lot very very great job mis mojo one of my absolute favorite list ever can you please do more videos like this one please 😊❤
One of the few great solos missing from YT is Fred Astaire's 'Putting On The Ritz' from 'Blue Skies', which he intended to be his swan song. Unlike some of his post-Ginger solos, its use of cinema trickery and props is unobtrusive, without the slight hint of show-off that mars them.
I agree. Gregory Hines didn't get the opportunity to do as many musical films. The 1989 film Tap is probably his best showcase, and a dance could have been used from that.
Personally I would change 1st and 2nd spot. Also remember from Fred Astaire's Lifetime achievement award in 1981 presented by David Niven. His first report from a tryout read: Can't sing, can't act, can dance a little.
hon. mention: Bobby Van from Small Town Girl wasn't really a solo dance, it's just him hopping "across town". but the way he did it made it look like it was one continuous take.
The movie is called I Love Melvin 1953 stars Donald Connor.and I guarantee you. His roller skating routine is better. And you finally pay homage to Sammy Davis junior
I don't know who ranks the dances, but Singing In The Rain has been at the top of a number of their other movie lists so perhaps it's not surprising that another one was chosen. This Number One seems to be also well-liked by Mojo.
Gene's roller skate dance was great! But Fred did it first with Ginger 18 years earlier (Let's Call The Whole Thing Off). As for Gregory Hines, this is the wrong time period for his impeccable work. But I'm wondering why Dan Dailey isn't on this list anywhere.
I always got the ick from Gene Kelly. Then after I heard how mean he was to poor Debbie Reynolds that cemented the ick. Now to hear he rammed his tongue down her throat. It tripled the ick. Yes he was a mega talent. He could dance his ass off. He sang well. He was a good actor. But as a person he sucked. And that sours me to not being able to enjoy his performances in the old movies.
What a great list you compiled but you missed dances by POC. Black people invented all these dances in the first place, don’t leave them off your lists
This may be a little heretical but, if I'd been compiling the list, I would've restricted each dancer to ONE scene. There's no denying that Astaire and Kelly were performers beyond compare but when the two men account for half the scenes, you may as well have just made a "Top 10 Gene Kelly" or "Top 10 Fred Astaire" solo dance scenes and been done with it.
This compiĺation is about men only. Eleanor was far and away the greatest female solo dancer, of course, and IMO just tops Fred. His one-man turns as he grew older sometimes were a little too gimmicky and prop-driven: 'Firecrackers', the ceiling dance in 'Royal Wedding', 'Shoes with Wings' and 'Shine on Your Shoes' in 'The Band Wagon' are dazzlingly virtuosic, but lack the transcendental power and beauty of Powell.

And he repeated dancing on skates in Xanadu, when he was in his 70s

All dances by Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly are iconic
When I was a kid, Gene Kelly was my best friend’s uncle He Frequently, came to her house because his mom lived there. I got to meet him several times.
Indeed, they are amazing!
And, let’s not forget that while filming the title song scene. Kelly had a 104 fever and did that scene in 1 take… that makes gene Kelly one of the best of the golden age to my mind!
*Bill Robinson - ANY TAP DANCE❤
*Charlie Chaplin -Modern Times (1936)
*Ray Bolger - The Harvey Girls (1946)
*Donald O'Connor - I Love Melvin (1953)

@@michelecollin6150 so very true
Mikael Baryshnikov called Cagney simply genius
One of my favorites is still the newspaper dance done by Gene Kelly in "Summer Stock."😍
Gene Kelly was and is the best. His performance in Xanadu was also beautifully done on roller skates.
When Singin' in the Rain came up as #4, I thought, "The top 3 damned well better be impressive!" I was not disappointed.
I can’t even express how much I love Gene Kelly. He was so talented!
Royal Wedding is a favorite.
Fred astaire was a gifted dancer 💯😊
James cagney did a great job in yankee doodle dandy
Gregory Hines opening credits in Tap. Good dance movie overall, actually.
Bill “Bojangles” Robinson got overlooked here.
Singing In The Rain should be number one, is beautiful and beyond iconic scene.
I'd also throw in Broadway Melody from SINGIN' IN THE RAIN as an honorable mention! It's mostly centered around GK, but with other dancers floating in and out throughout.

Before Lionel Ritchie was dancing on the ceiling, Fred Astaire did it first!
I’m so glad I looked at the comment before I posted the very same thing you did. Lol good job
I wondered how Gene Kelly did the dance in It’s Always Fair Weather on roller skates. It LOOKS SO easy, but it’s not.
He also does a routine on roller skates in Xanadu
Astute and Roger's did it.
@@gwynwellliver4489And Eleanor Powell did a rain dance with George Murphy in 'Broadway Melody of 1938'.
We will support this channel. They're one of the best.

The ballon dance from Call me madam! Great dance & physical comedy
I would love to see a VS video of Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly...if there is not one already
There you go! 😘
Gregory Hines should’ve been included.

Royal Wedding where he dances on the ceiling and the walls!
Donald O'Conner did skates in a gazebo. I Love Melvin.
Personally I would change 1st and 2nd spot.

Great list but I surprised that number one wasn’t the other one he is in that’s ICONIC, but he was amazing in your choice❤️🌈

@@suebob16 I didn’t disagree with choice

Ooh!
You missed a moment when commentating on I Got Rhythm...should have said "who could ask for anything more?" Instead of "what more do you want?"
I trained as a dancer. One of the first things I was taught was “don’t look at your feet”. It has always annoyed me that Astaire stares at his feet
I always got the ick from Gene Kelly. Then after I heard how mean he was to poor Debbie Reynolds that cemented the ick. Now to hear he rammed his tongue down her throat. It tripled the ick. If Fred Astaire didn't have a dance partner...he MADE one out of a PROP!!!
In other words “Fred Astaire &Gene Kelly dances “ with special guest stars 😝
If I had to pick singing in the rain
Kelly’s dream dance with Cyd Charisse is the most romantic dance ever filmed, in my humble opinion.
This may be a little heretical but, if I'd been compiling the list, I would've restricted each dancer to ONE scene. Donald deserves better than number 3 😒 y’all really skipping over What Chance Have I With Love from Call Me Madam and that’s a damn shame
DANNY KAYE WAS NO SLOUTCH.
No love for Eleanor Powell?
