I used to think the TC sounded better but it depends on what you're listening for. I own both pedals and what I like better about the Mooer is that I can control separate Bass, Treble and Overdrive. You can't do that on the TC. You only have one knob to turn up and down. One thing this review didn't show is what the Mooer sounds like when you turn up the volume on FULL along with the Treble. The pedal really comes alive and actually sounds better than the TC (in my opinion). Another thing to notice is how the Mooer sounds "thicker" and "warmer" when the Overdrive is turned up. The TC actually sounds harsh to my ears when turned up past 12:00. UA-cam gives you a fantastic reference point to start from but if you heard these pedals side by side in your living room on a BIG amp or PA, they would sound drastically different then listening to them here. I love a lot stuff TC makes but the Mooer is on my pedalboard and I took the TC off.
+T.I.N I know TC makes a regular sized Spark Booster because I own that pedal too. I'm always buying new pedals and want to try everything! Haha... At the end of the day, there's no good or bad. It's just what you prefer. I think these two pedals sound very different from each other so it's like comparing Apples and Oranges. The only real thing they have in common is their size. The Mini Spark Booster is great for boosting a clean signal you want to keep clean. The Mooer Pure Boost is a lot warmer and has great sustain. It reminds me of a tube screamer.
"The Mini Spark Booster is great for boosting a clean signal you want to keep clean. The Mooer Pure Boost is a lot warmer and has great sustain. It reminds me of a tube screamer." I think you've summed it up here, I have the Spark and it is 'volume boost' only, no gain added - the Mooer reminds me of the TS808, very subtle compression.
Pure Boost has a bit more mids which are more pronounced as you turn up the volume, much like an OD pedal. Because I'm simply wanting to BOOST my OD pedal, I'm looking for the most transparent and minimalist boost I can find. Every boost has a certain EQ, but the Spark seems to be the most true to the original tone which I really need. Don't want to have to dial in an EQ in the Mooer so that it doesn't color the tone.
Absolutely agree. To my ears, the more the Mooer boost was increased in volume, the muddier it got. Whereas, the Spark kept it's clarity. Good comparison methinks :O)
Also, I’ve found that unity tone on the Pure Boost is with the Bass and Treble knobs between 1 o’clock and 12 (a little knob miscalibration isn’t too surprising from a Chinese clone). So, makes sense that it sounds like it has more mids in this video with those straight up. I use the volume knob as a boost, never really turning the gain knob past 10 o’clock. That seems to pretty faithfully boost the sound.
Getting the Spark to boost without adding overdrive, it also seems to make the sound more "up front". Perfect for my true bypass chain, it will also drive any my 2FX loops. The momentary function is convenient especially when I'm pedal dancing while singing.
Clear for me : the Spark is a real "CLEAN" booster cause it increases the sound with less overdrive than the Mooer. I have the Mooer and I am forced to turn the volume up (maxi) and the gain almost to the minimum to make a pedal that increases my sound level without distorting the signal. We cannot play on the volume of the Spark because it appears that the gain knob plays its role well. However the Mooer is a good choise,
The SPARK wins hands down! I had the Pure Boost and got rid of it and a bunch of other Mooer pedals for the same reason, they do color the sound! Just heard the Spark at the store and I love it...
Just purchased the Spark. I'm not a pedal guy by nature, but I was overwhelmed by not only the clean volume boost, but the body of tone it injected into my sound. I play through a Marshall JVM 410 combo and the Spark made a great amp even better. MEOW!
these are two different pedals, with different intended uses, but obviously have some overlap. They both sound great doing what they are intended to do. That said, I will say that nobody should need 20db of boost.
@@caglaroral I know this is 3 years late. But the reason the Mooer distorted is because the person doing the video was cranking up the Mooer’s gain knob instead of the volume knob.
RC Booster, sold it - liked it a lot but a bit sterile sounding. Spark, sold it - nice but I hear a boost in highs when engaged (at least with my rig) with no EQ option Mooer - in the mail. hope it works out
Hi man. How’s the mooer? Are you satisfied with your choice? Anything that you don’t like in it after those few months? I have one spark, but I hear pops and clicks when on/off - disappointed. I only need a clean boost pedal ( 3-6db plus)... what you think, is the mooer for me?
@@metomett the Mooer was very good but for some reason I got a loud click when using it with my main set up so I sold it. I got an xotic super clean and really like it a lot!
I liked them both but thought the Mooer seemed to be a little more transparent. It didn't seem to color the tone or add as much gain while adding more volume. Thank you very much for the comparison!
Big Truth Band EQ settings on the Mooer can offer different alternatives. But I think more successful spark booster. They adapt well with my setup. Thank you :)
tbh it depends on what you need. If you need bass and treble controls get the mooer but if not get the spark mini, it's cheaper and provides the same quality than the mooer
Sweetwater has the Spark for $49 w free shipping. I consistently liked the Spark better because it sounded more transparent on every lick, until the very end when he finally turned the treble up on the Mooer.... then they sounded virtually identical. Wish he had turned the treble up at the beginning and tone matched them, and then did the comparison. Pretty unfair comparison otherwise.
Yeah man thats right if it is a video in english all the comments must be in english... about that, i thought about buying theMODER Pure Boost and... 77$ is a fairy price? or a expensive price? (A taximan stole my digital pedal a few months ago... Now i want to buy a set of analogs pedals... but the economy (my job) has been so bad =S and i have money only for 2 analog pedals .. the distortion and maybe that boost, can U helpme about the price?) P.D: Sorry for my bad english :v

This demo is very wrong. You should play also your guitar after you turned off the spark and before you turned on the pure boost. so that we can hear how the pure boost affect the sound.

Damn I tried that Pure Boost setting you suggested and wow. It really does start to sparkle with the volume and treble cranked.
Thanks, I have the mooer boost as wel and was missing this information.
never heard about the treble volume thing, def gonna try it! what about the bass knob in this case, is it necessary to crank it a bit for the balance?
Hi! I don't usually comment on UA-cam videos, but I just wanted to thank you for making this super informative and clear comparison. Well done! :-)

It didn't help at all!

SONGSTICKS , because the comparison was volume vs gain

spark boost/ spark mini boost?
Why is he turning the gain knob for mooer and not the small volume one? Of course gain adds grit.
The Spark that Drive's!
Are you turning up the gain knob on the pure boost instead of the volume because it looks like the level knob on the Spark?
hahaha
Looks like that's exactly what he's doing lmao
yes that's what he's doing......poor demo...level(volume) n gain are 2 different parameters....

I think i'd choose the Mooer for its eq ability plus he didnt touch that volume knob once...
Why turn the gain knob on mooer? Volume is the upper knob.
I have a Spark mini, and I don't like that it thickens up the sound engaged, it changes your tone.
the best review i ever seen on clean sound i like the tc better would that give me just clean volume without any overdrive thanks man.
the tc is a clean booster , the mooer a gain booster
Gain is not a Volume/Level knob.
The spark maintains a nice tone and has a bit more oomph, the mooer isnt as strong and it ruins the quality of the sound. Id get the spark no contest
Exactly i did the same.
Snooze00 yeap definitely my choise is Spark. Mooer distorted the sound Spark is crystal clear even cranked
