    This is a comparison of the Mooer Pure Boost with the Xotic RC Booster. They are suppose to be comparable so I figured I would give it a try. We are huge fans of the RC Booster over here on the East side of Sarasota. I broke out the v1, not sure the versions differ other than the LED placement and paint, and compared them side by side. Lets see if the Pure Boost is capable of the same sweet tones!!

    I left a comment for this a year ago and I'm changing it because I have now lived with BOTH of these pedals for over a year. My perspective has definitely changed. What I've learned is this... One pedal is NOT better than the other. Instead, they actually have slightly different personalities. It's hard to hear on PC speakers so I strongly suggest you do your own A/B test through your own rig or listen to this UA-cam clip through BIG speakers. You'll hear a bigger difference that way. The Mooer is more compressed which can be good because it controls itself regardless if you're playing rhythm or lead. A sudden jump in volume won't happen (if it's already on) so going from rhythm to a lead is seamless. The RC is more "in your face". Very uncompressed but in a good way. It offers more dynamics depending on how hard you're picking or strumming. I find myself working less using the RC and letting the pedal do all the work instead of picking harder to get my solo out front. The RC is also more balanced top to bottom regardless what string you're on. The Mooer does this too but not as well. I've gone back and forth with these pedals and find myself leaning more towards the RC. The benefit is that if you're a skilled player, it will shine your ability to your audience. The downside is it will show ALL your mistakes whereas the Mooer will let you get away with flubbing a few notes if you're speeding along. I'm a seasoned player so the RC doesn't intimidate me. When I rip a solo, it's all or nothing and the RC screams every single note crystal clear. Lastly... The RC is much cleaner for pure strumming. Turn the gain down, the volume up and it will show you an entirely different ability for those acoustic ballads. Almost forgot... my friend tried this on his Bass guitar and absolutely loved it. Really brought his Bass to life in a way he's never heard before. At the end of the day, it's personal taste and what sound you're looking for. If cost is an issue and you gotta scrape together your last penny to get a pedal, then get the Mooer. It's half the price. No one in the audience will know the difference except you and the paint on the walls. Rock on...

      Hi man. I read few of your comments about ‘spark mini’ and ‘ mooer clean boost’ and I decided to write you back. I just tried an ‘spark mini’ and accept the click/pop I hear every time I engage it ( maybe it’s a fault one ) - disappointed... it’s sounds very drastically between on and off even with difference of few dbs. I need only clean boost ( like volume pedal ) for my solos ( nylon strings guitar here ) - that’s all! Do you think that the mooer will be a good choice in my case? Hope to see your answer back - thanks

    Funny how everyone is just complaining the knobs weren't always set the same. Did you ever think that the pot sweep on both are slightly different so maybe to get them to sound the same each needs to be set different. Just because you put all knobs at 12 doesn't mean both pedals are comparable at that setting.

  • @thearoom

    I totally agree with you I wish the volume knob was the big knob on the mooer

    For those of you with doubts about which one to buy I can clearly tell that on youtube they seem very similar but live they are two totally different pedals the Pure Boost doesn't even come close to the RC Booster is the RC Booster worth the money, yes definitely.

    The pure boost sound really nice but the RC Booster is more rich, organic and has a more "amp like" character.

    I think the Xotic Boost is better than Mooer but if you don't want pay 250 dollars for a boost, the Mooer boost is the way ;)

  • @cale583

    On top of the price being better and quite comparable in sound, I would like to add that the Mooer also is more compact, so its the clear winner

    Hmm... maybe it's a bit more 'smooth' sounding, but considering the prices, I don't know... the RC's recently dropped to 199 Euro here in germany. The Pure Boost I ordered from China for 35 (including shipment!)!

    Excellent comparison. Thanks a bunch. Loving that Xotic RC, which sounds fatter to my ears. But Mooer still is an incredible value.

    i bought the pure boost and i think its a great pedal. Its always on in my pedalboard and makes my other drives sound much better

    Is there a way to get rid of the nasty distortion which sounds like clipping? On the Mooer I can't turn the gain past 10 o'clock without it sounding like something is clipping even when nothing is clipping in my chain.

    I've got the RC Booster, and where I work, we also sell the MOOER pedals. I've been really impressed with what these little guys can do. Lifesavers for people with already bloated pedal boards. To me, the RC with the gain up reminds me of my Tweed Super when it's cranked. I'm impressed with how the PURE can go toe to toe with it.
    Either way, you can't go wrong with these pedals.

    Moeer sounds pretty close. I think the RC is more dynamic. The RC will have better quality capacitors in it for passing signal.

  • @DerEchteBold

    It was 'Marcmart', You needed a discount-code to get 50% off (easily to be found in guitar forums) but it seems they don't carry most of the Mooer stuff anymore, so probably it won't work now.
    Currently You'd pay around 60-80 Euro (at least) for the Mooer pedals, not sure if that's still a good deal... maybe if it's exactly what You need (especially this one here is pretty unrivaled in it's price-range I guess), for drives You could perhaps look into 'Joyo' stuff.

  • @DerEchteBold
    @DerEchteBold 11 років тому

    Have You considered a 'passive attenuator' in the loop? Something like the 'EHX Signal Pad', that's practically just a footswitchable volume knob, seems like the perfect solution for Your issue (and it's about 35€!).

    Thank you but it isn't exactly what I need 'cause my Amp (bogner alchemist 212) doesn't accept any booster in the loop effects. And the only reason I was searching a Booster is to grow up my volume in the solos! Thank you!

    OK ... some folks like sound shapes that move towards a fuller (or muddier) dominance tonality in their boost, which is perfect with one guitar - a bass - and drums. When I listen to the Mooer, I get the sense I'm hearing a hand-crafted cab. .. subtly fine tuned - which lends itself to tasteful arranging of your overall group sound. placed

  • @jagtone

    I guess I don't have golden ears, but I can't hear any difference that wouldn't fall well within the margins you'd expect from slight differences in the settings of the pots, or variations from piece to piece, or even unconscious bias on the part of the tester--IOW, the differences between these two are probably no greater than the differences you might find between any two RC boosts in the store, just based on slight variances in actual component values and the like. If you really want to A/B convincingly, you need to factor out unconscious bias and measurement error by (a) using a looper to play the test riffs into both pedals and (b) using objective criteria to set the pots, like a db meter on the vol pot and resistance on the others. Obviously, all this is not practical for a simple UA-cam comparison video, so take it for what it's worth.

  • @smoss469

    I thought they sounded pretty close, at least close when the knobs were set the same. For the price difference... the Mooer will work for 90% of the people out there I'm sure.

  • @marcodado7473

    There is a small difference, probably the RC sounds a bit more natural and uncompressed. still for the money the Moeer wins by far.

    • @mike1967sam
      @mike1967sam 8 років тому

      +Marco Dado You're wrong, did you ever try them side by side? On youtube they sound close but in reality the RC is very very different, a 1000 times better than the Mooer, the Mooer doesn't even come close and I speak from experience.

    My experience with Joyo, Mooer, and Donner clones and the like. They do a good job, but you get what you pay for you know what i mean? Try the Donner blues drive or the Joyo sweet honey. I own both and they both sound pretty damn good for clones.

  • @mike1967sam

    The RC is much more clean than the Mooer, the Mooer has much more gain and breaks up much earlier...if you can notice this via youtube than live the difference is huge.
