Richie Sambora shows Total Guitar one of the Holy Grails of tone; his original 1959 Gibson Les Paul, while bandmate Orianthi brings her 'Manos' PRS Custom 22 guitar.

The finish on 59's only fade when exposed to ultra violet light, if the guitar was kept in the case or rarely exposed to UVL it will not fade. That said any guitar with nitro finish will fade some in smokey bars and or when exposed to UVL. I've worked in vintage guitar stores since the 70's an have seen many examples of non-faded 58,59's or at least slightly faded 58,59's (the changed the paint in 60) Check out Tom Wittrock's collection sometimes I've seen those guitars since the 70's and many have retained their glorious original sunburst color. Look him up he has video's on youtube

Not because he can’t afford it but because that is in way too good of condition and the flames... it’s very obviously a reissue or it would be very well known... like The Beast, Pearly Gates, Jimmy Page’s #2... etc. If that was a real ‘59, there is no way he’d have it out on tour. Even Slash’s replica 59 is studio only.

Paweł Marcinkiewicz It lets you have the tail piece closer to the body so you get more sustain and is more flush with the bridge so is less likely for the string to break. I know that Joe Bonamassa does it so oes Billy Gibons.
+THINCOVER It also avoids unwanted vibrations when a string touches the tailpiece. Gives it more overall stability. All my stoptail guitars are set up like this \m/

I think guitars are comparable with cars. While some prefer the classics such as the E Type Jaguar or the AC Cobra, Ford GT40 etc, (usually, but not limited to those that lived through that era), others prefer the Bugati Veyron or the Mclaren F1 or Ferrari Enzo etc. While the classics still look, sound and perform beautiful in a unique way, if you put it up against a modern super car with the right driver then it wouldn’t stand a chance! But that is not to say that the classics aren’t the badgers nadgers too!
Just commenting on whether this is a "real" 59. I am not an expert but my visceral impression, at first glance, was that it was not a real 59. Don't know why and I am sure that I am wrong but that was my first impression.

1800NoFault exactly my thoughts!! It’s either a True Historic or a 59 that was NEVER played before he bought it! The flames are way too bright and it’s just way too perfect to be a real 59 Les Paul

If you mean "Is he fucking her"?, yes, yes they've been a thing for 3 years now. What she sees in his old drunk ass I'll never know. He has lost so many fans since he left Bon Jovi. He had a persona and the girls loved it just like they loved the way Jon mingles with them. It's part of being a rock star. Thankfully Bon Jovi no longer has to worry about anyone being drunk or wasted because they are rock solid. Phil X and Hughie McDonald have filled out the band as seen in their first single as a group. "This house is not for sale". The video about the making of it is insightful as well.

Reymond Agpaoa Twice he filled in on a tour for Richie, he deserved to be the new guitar player because he has the talent. Filling in for a famous and well loved right hand man to the boss would be a tough spot to fill but he over filled it in an epic way. Something I learned myself a long time ago is that we are all replaceable. Richie was so popular as a member of Bon Jovi, I still miss seeing him and Jon up front, doing crazy shit on stage, but that is done and I still love Bon Jovi. I don't hate Richie, I just hate how he walked away from the band at the worst possible moment. So that makes me very happy that Phil was able to make that move.
I love richie sambora he is the one who inspired me to take a guitar and play it. But i agree to you man, for me richie made a wrong decision leaving bon jovi. He is old his voice is out of tune sometimes and his playing style suits on bon jovi not on the path that he's walking now ( w/ orianthi ).

Yes they were a couple and since Richie left ,Bon Jovi lost the Engine of the Band ! Such a great guitar Player Who played with Giants like Clapton Page or B B King just to Name a few . Now he is doing his own stuff .

@@Panic42000 true story. Richie's life might have gone off the rails at some point, but the guy is a legit guitar player. The stuff on the first three Jovi albums has as much greatness as anything in that era. Richie's playing was solid back then, and he's Definitely earned his street cred.

Sorry Richie but you got ripped off, if that was a real 1959 Les Paul the burst finish would have faded long ago because of the pigment used in the paint. It's a nice replica or reissue, but it's not a real one.

'All' and let me repeat that 'All' 1959 Les Paul Bursts used aniline dye to create the bust. Aniline consists of a benzene ring substituting on an ammonia molecule. To make the dyes, the manufacturers take aniline and stick it with compounds with alternating double and single bonds. The idea is that these compounds extract the colors from white light to appear red, blue, etc. When these compounds are exposed to UV light, it breaks apart the double bonds, causing the color to dissipate. Benzene is a really stable molecule, its not easily altered. Altering the structure needs added energy. As it happens, UV light carries enough energy to alter the molecule. You can also see a Nitrogen (N) molecule. It has a pair of free electrons, depicted as two dots. This sort of weakens the entire molecule. Its hard to explain this in an easy way but i'll try.
The added energy of UV light plus the weakening effect of the free electron pair makes it possible for the molecule to go to a different configuration. I guess the double bounds will shift place. Nitrogen will probably donate the free electrons to the nearest carbon atom causing the double bounds to shift places. It doesnt really matter what exactly happens, the more important thing is that the new formed molecule configuration has different properties. In our case that is a different light absorption.
Aniline absorbs all wavelengths of light, apart from the ones we see(red). The altered molecule doesn't have this property, it absorbs the wavelenghts more equally so that we no longer see it as red, but as transparant.
Therefore after 50 years there is not a single 1959 burst that has not faded

If it was an original 1959 Les Paul the old place there would be a chance of an burst being present is under the pickup rings and maybe a trace amount under the pick guard. Oh, and yes ... that is exactly how it works.
Quite a few 59s have a finish that is not faded. E.g. lookup "Brockburst" on Google. Or get the "Beauty of the Burst" book.
