I wasted a lot of money on strats to get a fatter sound out of them. there is the old saying “you can paint a balloon black, but it doesn’t make it a bowling ball.” I should’ve just gotten the Les Paul from the get go end. The problems would’ve been over, my next guitar will be a Les Paul.
I wish the volume was equalized. I closed my eyes and was always drawn to the LP specifically for the cleans. I’m starting to think that the louder volume of the LP played a factor.
Exactly. LP's sound on high gain is much more muddy and dark than overdriven/distorted Strat. I prefer dirty tone of Strat in blues and all kinds of rock. LP's dirty tone is better for metal music though.
I work professionally with those two and I record a looot of music, the strat has that metallic low-end that is not suit for distorted genres except if you are going for a crushed john frusciante / red hot tone or strummed stuff. The neck pickups on the strat are immaculate, and that's another thing. Les Pauls are easier to mix in heavier rock, easier to place, and the tone is not metallic but really creamy even on the bridge pickups.
I wanted to buy a Gibson LP Tribute. There weren't any in Greece at the time, so I bought a Fender Stratocaster player series. Couldn't have been happier with my purchase. I mean, what a great guitar, and I also saved 450€ which helped me buy a Fender Bassbreaker 30r
It almost seems like the style of music you play will make a big difference. Almost all country stars use Fender Telecasters, almost all classic/easy rock use Stratocasters and most loud/hard rockers use Les Pauls. I myself go with a Strat hands down. I've owned both and the Strats seem more comfortable to play. I have always liked the look and shape of pretty much all the Fenders as well, but what ever floats your boat, they both are great guitars all the way!!!
Both are perfect in their own way, but Telecaster is the better overall instrument for me as it is capable of the loud LP sound and Strat clarity in one swing of a pick.
I just picked up a strat today, already own a les paul and I like them both for different things. I like how strats have a bit more room on the neck, makes chords and notes feel not so cluttered.
@@luismangiaterra1031 yea I'm just starting to learn about hardware on electrics. My strat has medium to jumbo frets which is nice for really feeling where your fingers are. My les has some small frets. Crazy how much stuff there is to learn about guitars! I love it.
@@brandonmitchell1457 great, takes time to learn, be patient, the jumbo frets are nice, steel frets are the best because they're smoother. You can duplicate the tone of a $30,000 Gibson with your fender by turning your tone knobs to zero and turn the gain and volume up.

*A few undeniable advantages for the Fender model is that the Stratocaster tends to be lighter and therefore much more comfortable to play for long hours. It's lines and curves just hug your body, wether you are skinny, chubby or muscular. Meanwhile the Gibson is a slab of wood, a heavy slab of wood. The Fender model is also much easier to maintain and modify, as this was by design when Leo Fender created it, decades ago, he wanted players to go out of their comfort zone and mod, experiment with their instruments.* Regarding the necks of both guitars. It's a toss up, some will prefer Fender's and some will prefer Gibson's, so that's a tie. *Tone wise, Les Pauls sport Humbucker Pickups which are pretty much noiseless, have a warm and velvety feel to their sound signature, with lots of bite and power, but on the other hand, these can get muddy easily.* Stratocasters come with Single Coil Pickups which are extremely crisp and detailed, these pickups also keep their signature clarity even when being distorted and overdriven. Problem is, Single Coils are noisy as hell and pretty much demand you to use Noise Gates. Once again, it's a tie, their sound signature will appeal to different people. *Some people will say Les Pauls are the essence of the Rock N' Roll, others will say Stratocasters are the true essence. Both arguments are wrong, because both guitars helped form and define the sound of rock, hard rock, jazz and blues. And while some might say Strats aren't meant for the metal genre, with the right pickups, amp and pedals, you can turn a Stratocaster into a Death Metal machine.* No real winner or loser, as long as you don't ask anyone biased. A fanboy will always be blind and put their preferences ahead of facts.
Good comparison and nice playing. I'm not a good player but do love my strats and teles. Just ordered an Epi standard Les Paul. Have never played one before so this should be interesting.
Judging by this video, I feel like Fender S tends to have better definition, in bass and treble, whereas Gibson LP has too much middle frequencies for my taste and sounds like a bad old recording. At least that happens specially on clean channels, With Overdrive, Fender S still sounds more clear! But has a lot less body, while Gibson LP has more that rough and heavy body you need in your sounds for playing rock! What do you guys think?
Strat sounds better in every comparison. It has more extended low and high. It makes it sound so much fuller. Les Paul sounds low fidelity by comparison.

*Tone wise, Les Pauls sport Humbucker Pickups which are pretty much noiseless, have a warm and velvety feel to their sound signature, with lots of bite and power, but on the other hand, these can get muddy easily.*
Stratocasters come with Single Coil Pickups which are extremely crisp and detailed, these pickups also keep their signature clarity even when being distorted and overdriven.
And while some might say Strats aren't meant for the metal genre, with the right pickups, amp and pedals, you can turn a Stratocaster into a Death Metal machine.*
No real winner or loser, as long as you don't ask anyone biased. A fanboy will always be blind and put their preferences ahead of facts.
Honestly, get both, there's no better or worse, their sounds are just different.
I prefer the strat for clean tones, but Gibson for anything with distortion.
gibson sounds morelike an austik .
The Gibson constantly sounds in the background
May I ask what song did you played on 1:15 ?? Jazz clean part. It's satisfying to hear
Same. I really need to know at least what chords those were
I found it! It's Grito Mudo by Mateus Asato
Both great, both for different purposes
Good comparison and nice playing. I'm not a good player but do love my strats and teles. Just ordered an Epi standard Les Paul. Have never played one before so this should be interesting.
Finaly a video with no bullshit talking, i like em both
The Jazz clean part is awesome
I found it! It's grito mudo by mateus asato
They both sound real good, but the les Paul is tough and heavy with distortion, and with clean it’s so good too but can’t beat the strat on clean
Lp picks to much song from body.
Great demo. Both are totally usable for all tones.
I know there others out there, but would love to hear you do an LP vs. Tele deluxe.
I would love a Deluxe Tele, those vintera ones look very cool. Hopefully one for the future 👍
Fender is great, Eric Clapton loves it, but Gibson wins to me, and it's the George Benson's preferred ❤
if play neck + bridge strato sound more a humbucker than other combinations (on g&l strat)
Each notes are clearly audible on a strat while notes from gibson sounds muddy
Got a Strat and a Gibson Explorer, two wonderful guitars. None is better than the other, they're great for different things.
Les Paul for the fat warm sound. Strat for the punchy thin sound
Strat sounds better in every comparison. It has more extended low and high. It makes it sound so much fuller. Les Paul sounds low fidelity by comparison.
To be honest they both have their charm.
