FULL RENOVATION - 5 Months In 45 Minute Timelapse - Transforming Our Crumbling 1800s Outbuilding
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 січ 2025
- Willie, Sarah and their dogs, Jack Spaniels & Nori, continue their biggest adventure yet - leaving suburban life and moving over the sea to a remote cottage on the Isle of Skye, off the west coast of the Scottish Highlands.
This week, in the final post of the year, the Skye Lifers bring you a special episode - bringing together all of the byre renovation footage into a single video for the first time ever.
In the spring/summer of 2023, we embarked on our most ambitious project yet - transforming our cold, dark & damp stone outbuilding into light, bright studio spaces for us to work in. 5 months of hard work resulted in a huge transformation and we have condensed this down into one 45 minute episode for you.
Plus, there's new footage of the byre now - over a year later completion, as we take you through what's changed and how we felt the build went.
Thanks for watching & see you in the next video!

Sarah, Willie, Jack & Nori x
A MAMMOTH job for 2 novices, but having Good, accomplished friends whose skill and generosity see the job done well is a blessing .
Richard has been a guiding angel, and Ian with his trade skills , both so generous.
Well done Sarah and Willie. You deserve every good outcome.
Cheers.👍👍
That was one amazing project, but the four of you made a great team and you accomplished what you set out to do! YAY!! YOU BOTH SHOULD BE VERY PROUD OF YOURSELVES.
I love watching the time lapse of Jack Spaniard running in and out with his tail wagging at double speed! Such a good, helpful, cheerful boy!
I meant Spaniels, stupid autocorrect.

I forgot how much work it took to renovate the byer and also building the boat shed. It was a very good year and looking forward to more Skye Life in 2025.
There isn't a better feeling saying WE DID. THAT well done you two..... looking forward to what comes now🎉
This is my pit stop on a monday morning, first thing,to be honest Willie and your wife (Who;s name i just forget) I look forward to an episode. Let the truth be known,i love the show also the views and ordinary life living a contented life..If the truth be known it's the dogs that give me a high...Best a luck to Sarah..(Just remembered) and yourself ,last but not least your wonderful Spaniels..I can't keep the smile of my face watching your lives....Best a Luck from me..
What an amazing accomplishment!🥂all in one year.
A time lapse of Nori growing up, another time.
Have a wonderful New Year on Skye in your perfect dream cottage. ❤️🥂❤️
yes please!
Such a fantastic rejuvenation of the Byre to suit both your needs. Having specific spaces for work/leisure that is outside your home makes for greater productivity don’t you think? You both did such an awesome job! Be proud! 😊
Fantastic to see the byre transformation all put together, and also to see how much has changed since you finished it. No Landrover, no boat and no boat and a hundred little things that just happen when you live somewhere another year or so on. I remember watching from the very first video and willing you on to get somewhere really great and you did, and transformed your lives immeasurably. It's been an utter joy to watch.
So here's to even more growth, challenges, joy, love and good health in 2025 to all four of you.
Aww thanks so much!! 😊
Got so engrossed in your Full Renovation of the byre. I forgot that I had turned on the tap in the kitchen. No prizes as to who has just flooded out the kitchen. Thanks Willie, Thanks Sarah 🤣. Don't think the wife is going to be impressed🙍♀
Happy New Year to you both, and special belly rubs for Jack and Nori.🐕🐕
Oh noooo! We wanted it to be an interesting watch, but not to that extent 😫
@@livingtheskyelife On the up side, the floor has never been cleaner 🤣
Awww you guys melt my heart ♥️ wonderful memories and new ones to be had, thank you for sharing your journey together and giving me my faith back that a loving creative life is possible. Many many blessings to you all at Skye Life Cottage 🙏🏼✨🏴
I have been following your channel, I think, from almost the beginning, so I thoroughly enjoyed this look-back. Congratulations on a beautiful outcome. Richard and Ian are great friends and very funny. The pups are adorable and your blooper reels make me laugh each week.
Wow.. look at how your hard work for your new studio's turned out, what an achievement clever talented couple 💑 I wish you both Jack and Nori a Happy Healthy and Prosperous 2025 ❤❤
also - had to add...the gorgeous blue sky days [in April], & Jack dutifully waiting [throughout the reno/build]...Love the gallery wall [of Sarah's artwork], & Willie's 'window' wall. thank you for sharing your Skye Life
You guys are awesome... and I look forward to seeing your videos every week. I am Scottish, my wife is German... we spent our 3 day honeymoon on the Isle of Skye before settling in Dunfermline, then 30 years later (and 5 grown-up kids), now we live in Darmstadt, Germany ❤!!
How is it over a year ago already! Great to see it all in once vid, haha loved seeing Jack zoomies again, sooooo funny! lol
Great to be reminded of what an achievement that was! Only you two had the vision of converting an old cattle shed into a beautiful new pair of studios! You weren't daunted by the task and it turned out lovely! 🤩💐 Happy New Year! 🍾🥂💖🎼
I have been with you since the beginning of your journey and every week I marveled at your tenacity and hard work. But when you see it in time lapse it’s truly incredible. You have to be so proud. I know all of us are super proud of you both. Happy New Year!!
This got me so confused about what day it is, normally I watch you when I'm getting ready for work Monday morning Aussie time but I'm home at mum's in Glasgow and I was like, fuck is it Monday? Nah, thank goodness.
Lovely to see the whole process in one video, well done.
I LOVE the little window sill/frame you made Willie! it is very cute, and was very clever, how you made the selves look so rustic.....It really is fun watching it all happen so fast, if only these jobs did happen that quickly 🤗
Was great to relive the Byer build again.
Lots of things I'd forgotten about like the flooding and the repairs needed to the original walls.
Happy New Year to the Skye Life family. Can't wait to see what 2025 brings 🥰
You two did an amazing job with the conversion. You should definitely be proud. Your studio spaces will benefit you both for a long time. So looking forward to keep seeing your weekly videos and Living The Skye Life through your eyes. ❤
Happy New Year 🎉
Watching the individual episodes was good seeing this combined video really brings the scale of the job into focus...you all deserve loads of praise for a job well done and the result is what some people would have bulldozed now stands as a very fine example of re-purposing history for use today.....👍👍👍👍
I'm guessing, there must have been times, when you wondered why you took on this project. Ignoring this and any frustrations along the way, you both now have your own creative spaces that look amazing. Congratulations Sarah and Willie and thank you for your weekly vlogs, keeping us up to date on your life on Skye.
Wow , amazing to see how hard you have worked over the year . With your friends help . Great job . 😘
Sarah and Willie, I loved watching the time-lapse video. You did a great job of repurposing the byre. Happy New Year🎉🎉🥂🥂
Well done, Sarah, Willie, Ian and Richard!
Its 8.00pm on New Years Eve here in New Zealand 🇳🇿 and my husband and I have just enjoyed watching this video so much. You are both an inspiration for others to just 'give it a go'. All the very best for 2025! 🙃🌿🌴🥑🥝❤🐕🐕
Hi guys, lots of hard work on your part. You are so lucky to have great, generous people in your lives. In the form of Ian and Richard, who has come up trumps for you, so many times. 😊
Your very talented Willie being able to play all those instruments....
Outstanding! Hard tae believe it was a year ago. What an accomplishment.👏👏👏👏👏
I saw all the work while you were doing it, but it really shows the massive efforts put into the project when you see it all at once. Sarah, I just received the prints I ordered from you, they are amazing!! Thank you! Best wishes to all 4 of you in the coming year!!!
Absolutely wonderful way to end the Year 2024, showing, 'From the Beginning!' Very WELL DONE! Each decision you Two have made, in the midst of the process, has come through! Brilliant!
CONGRATULATIONS!❤❤❤❤ You have not flagged one bit!
Incredible incentive to keep going!!
😂😂😂😂 Wonderful! And delightful to see Jack respond to your Excitement with his own zoomies!
ENJOY IT ALL!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤
The thermal break in the building is wonderful. Nice job. The settlement cracks are to be expected.
Well done to all your hard work. A lovely job was done. Wishing you both, Jack, and Nori a Very Happy and prosperous New Year
I remember all the episodes of building the out building but watching the whole time lapse was awesome. It’s turned out great and you’ve changed it even better, more your own way. Take care and I’m wishing you and everyone watching a very HAPPY NEW YEAR 🙏❤️🥂🎉🌟
I live in a small town in Tennessee USA and I have said I will live here in this beautiful space it's just lovely. Congrats on a job well done. Now enjoy the fruits of your labor.
That's a lot of hard work! Very nice to see it all in one episode. Thanks! 🤗

Neat to see it all at once, spread out over months it was hard to remember everything you had done. So happy for you guys that you are still enjoying all your efforts, it really is a great space
I love what you did to that old stone building. Your cottage must feel huge now!!
Great to see all your hard work in time-lapse. I really enjoy your videos.
Love that you put in so much blood, sweat, and tears into your workspaces and your vision works so beautifully 🍻 Cheers!
Lovely to see the full story … you guys really are living your best life and it’s a pleasure to watch your adventures… thanks and all the very best for your new year … love to all 🏴💪❤️🤗
Lovely to see the re cap. A lot of hard work, but worth it.
It was great, rewatching the entire build in one sitting. Thanks for creating an honest-to-goodness documentary. Cheers, and ATB!
Wonderful of editing the Byrd build. You both did well and learned so much…..never do drywall ever again. 😊
A great reminder on the transformation. You have good friends…Richard, jack of all trades and Ian for all your electrical and flooring needs.
Thanks for sharing your skye life journey with us.
PS… that’s how we found that Dizzy had a YT channel too! Best find ever… well, including yours. 😉
What an accomplishment. You must be so proud. Thanks for sharing your journey.
The Byre was a major achievement. I watched along each week to see the progress but seeing it again on the time lapse brings home the amount of work involved. Well done both of you. And coming in under budget ❤
Really enjoyed watching the whole process even though I watched it weekly when you were doing it. What a transformation! Look at the value it’s added to your property too. Well done guys 👏🏻👏🏻
You guys are awesome, myself and wife are both from Scotland but live in Oklahoma. We love your channel. Impressive you do all the music for the channel too. 😍
I've thought about your Life on Skye,it deserves a place on the BBC Scotland, without doubt....
Love the wee mad tune with the slide whistle.it suits the boys ..

🏴❤️🏴 Excellent episode as ever, hope you both had a lovely Christmas 🏴❤️🏴
Happy Sunday and Happy New Year!!! Thank you for sharing your days and the things you try!!!
Nosy Rosie here wants to know when you are going to "jump the broom"??
So strange to only see Jack and not hurricane Nori. Forgot that he wasn't around back then in the quiet days. 😅 Great vlog capturing a huge amount of work and efforts. 😊 Happy New Year. Cheers, Puck.
Richard and Iain are fantastic friends to have. You all did an amazing job.
Wow guys a lot of blood sweat and tears went into that build with the thanks of Richard🤟and Iain but it looks amazing and cozy and it frees up so much space in the cottage. Great job and loved the recap video of the build. Happy 2025 and hope it is a happy, healthy year for you all.
It's such a mice building. You both did a wonderful job. 🎉
Happy New Year!
I remember the early days before the move.
Painting and digging.
It's dreary and rainy and a bit windy here as well.
I expect it will last about as long as your winter.
You can cozy up when the wild weather comes
knowing you both did a wonderful job on both buildings.
You are both young, educated and talented and have a bright future ahead
with Jack and Nori and maybe others in the future, who knows?
My warmest wishes,
Frederick "Rik" Spector
Richard and Ian were great for you. The buyer and house look great. Great outside views also. Great spot.🏴🇬🇧🇺🇸🍻
All the best for 2025, looking forward to more exciting videos. from South Africa
Thanks for sharing your experience. I am finishing up a renovation on a house built in the 1840’s it was unloved for decades, and I’m trying to infuse some detail back into it. Nearly there, but only photos to show for it, no video. Keep up the great work and great video. By the way…I find myself singing ‘these old walls’ while I’m working on my house. 😊
Very cool and completely renovated.
That was a MAJOR JOB !! Enjoyed seeing it all done in one video. God Bless Ian and Richard for all their hard work in making it happen. ☺ I hope 2025 brings you health, good fortune, joy and many blessings. Thank you for another wonderful year of sharing your incredible life on Skye. Happy New Year 🥳🥳 Love and hugs to you and the boys 🥰 xx
Wooow, I was with you every step of the way as it was created and watched every video as they came out. Ooooooh, this was a great video of the whole process of the build. I agree, it must have been exhausting to edit it. KUDOS to you both. Much love that it works for you now. I remember thinking well, what will they do once the boatshed and the byre are finished. How nice you have a little more space in your life now. Great job. Sending love, great praise and no criticism from America's North Coast 💜💜😇😇😍😍💜💜
Happy Sunday guys 🎉
Phew that was a lot of work. Well done 👍🏻 I’m enjoying Sarah’s artworks here in Australia 😊
One of the most satisfying time lapse video for a renovation that I have seen… Nice pauses to talk and explain and goof around. Thank you guys! Happy new year to you and all who are watching 🎉
Thanks so much!! So glad you enjoyed it 😊
Fantastic video!! A job well done! Thanks for all the wonderful videos this past year and looking forward to viewing more next year. Happy New Year Willie, Sarah, Jack, and Nori!
Lovely to see it all happen. What a great job Guys. All the best for 2025, cheers, John.
Was great watching the byre come together again, now to find a project for Nori to leave his mark on
Great video. Boy, you worked so hard and now it's so beautiful.
Baaaaaaaaaskets of congrats you two! So well done. Very cool seeing the transformation from front to back (the byer proper) and start to finish. Regarding the untaped drywall... "There is a crack in everything; that's how the light gets in." --Leonard Cohen. HAPPY NEW YEAR LTSL peeps and pups!!! Cheers from the Midwest, US~~ 🥂🎶
WELL DONE...a real 'work of art' ...
Really enjoyed the video guys! Amazing job you did converting the building into your studios! Can’t beat good team work ❤❤
Lovely retrospective. Now do one on building the shed!
A Work of Art. Loved watching this!
I see that Jack is supervising. Good job all esp. Jack.
Nice work! I appreciate your creativity with the build and The Storm.
This was so enjoyable to watch. Thank you for the video. That was a lot of work! Ian was so wonderful as well. Jack was adorable running around. 🤣 And you Sarah, you truly must have had an insight that “Naughty Nori” ( 😂😂 ) would be there. The bed is perfect size for the both. Now you will not be snuggling with Jack now 🤣. The entire build is wonderful. Congratulations on your studios. It’s perfect. Don’t mind the cracks, you can fix that later if you feel the need to do so. Happy New Year! From the US.
What an accomplishment
You two are so talented, love your vision ❤
I watched the whole project in real time and I enjoyed watching this video. You all did an amazing job!!! Thank you for sharing this with us 😊 and Happy New Year 🎉

Wow! fantastic trip down (recent) memory lane! you guys did so much work as did Iain and Richard! full marks to them and their skill! I enjoyed Richard as "Mona Lisa" complete with cheesy frame and, of course, the "hand gesture!" congratulations, cheers, and happy 2025!
