Fantastic to see all your progress so far in one big Timelapse. Makes you realise just how much you’ve achieved so far. Another exiting year ahead. Looking forward to seeing your journey unfold through 2025. All the best to you Ade, and your good lady.
Ha ha, yep I have to say it really works a treat. I can tell you I have worked on more than one professionally erected scaffold that wasn't as steady as this is.
Amazing job. It is a lovely property. Greatly appreciate the incredible amount of work you have put into this home. Looking forward to seeing your work continue. Best wishes and please stay safe.
Looking forward to following your journey into 2025! You have certainly worked hard during 2024! The time and effort you have put in is evident by the beautiful workmanship, despite all those slates the roof is a magnificent showcase for your sympathetic restoration! Truly is a work of art, your poor knees with all that kneeling! Good luck for 2025 workload! ❤
That's a beautiful message, thanks so much. It is so nice that you recognise the restoration work as sympathetic, that means a lot. I hope you enjoy the journey with us.
When the whole of that section was exposed and the grip all cleared out I invited Jake Mackay over to have a look and he was able to tell me where all the stalls for the cows were and where the drains ran and where the horses were kept etc. It was a special moment to see Jake in there and to hear first hand some of the history of the place.
Cracking job on that roof ! Looking forward to the progress. We have done a few old stone renovations over the years and they are character building to say the least good luck for 2025 🏴
As someone just text what an achievement so far since you got there especially cladding your caravan now the barn what a home this is going to be well done 😊😊
Thanks Kevin, I'm so looking forward to getting all the outside work done and then getting going on the internals and all the things that will make it unique.
Happy New year Fella, hope you all had a good Christmas & all is well your end? Looking forward too some new progress videos 👍🏻👏🏼👏🏼 From the Essex Team .
Great going. One point about your video - it would be far cooler to hear you playing your guitar instead of the high-speed Mickey Mouse sound of the timelapse sound. Just a suggestion.
Thanks Warren, that's a nice idea. The vast majority of my recorded music are songs rather than instrumentals which would be unsuitable I think but I'll work on that. I find some videos have music just for the sake of it so I don't mind the sound of the work but finding a balance would be good eh. Thanks for the feedback.
Curving the tops of the slates seems like it serves no purpose. Can you explain? I worked in the roofing industry for a decade in the US, and slates were curved on the exposed edge for decorative effect. Or left straight.
Hi Jo, thanks for taking the time to comment. These slates are about 200 years old and from a long disused quarry about an hour north of here called Ballachulish ( pronounced Bala Hoolish). Anyway they are all of random height and width and because they would all have originally been shaped by hand the most important section to be straight and square was the part that showed below the lap. So I think the curved top which you refer to would be what they called shoulders which weren't necessarily curved as such but just trimmed back so that there was no chance they would foul the slate next to them and create a vertical gap between each slate. Of course many slates will have been reused and been broken over the years so sometime the shoulders are considerably narrower than the bottom but as long as the correct lap is used this is not a problem. I am curving the slates alongside the windows and the verges not only because it looks nice but because it helps draw water away from those edges.
This is one of the most beautiful roofs I have seen.
Best of luck in 2025, you deserve it for your tenacity and perseverence.👏
Thanks so much, just have to hope I've not used all my tenacity up this past year!! There will be trying times again no doubt.
First time seeing your project. Excellent work, can’t wait for the next 😊
Ah thankyou, you're very kind.

Thankyou kindly, it has v=certainly been encouraging to put this video together to remind us just how much we have done.
Palet racking for a scaffold; genius. So obvious when you see it. Nice workmanship.

Well thankyou kindly. There's definitely more coming!
Reusing all the tails 😮😮. What a great job👍
Thanks for commenting. Aye, a lot of work but a huge saving being able to recycle the slates.

Lovely, from a new South African supporter and subscriber....
That's great to hear and to know how far and wide this UA-cam lark can reach. Thankyou.
What a great job!! Looking forward to your progress in 2025. Happy New Year!!!
Happy New Year to you too Nicholas and thanks for keeping in touch right through the year.
Loved seeing the old cobbled floor of the byre, good to have a photographic record of that, so much part of the history of Lecnambaan/Ladyfield.

wow just wow amazing work.
Thankyuo kindly, I'll take that!

Thanks so much Tony, it's always gratifying to get comments from folks like you who have done the work and know what's involved. So thanks for that.

Rare to see someone making that sort of effort for a roof these days!

Great build …a bit nerve wracking to watch at times but a very satisfying end result. You must be very pleased at what you have achieved.❤
Aye, very pleased. Easy to sometimes think that I'm getting nowhere fast but putting this together has made me feel way better about things.
This was awesome, not usually a fan of "roundups " but this was different. I forgot so much so was stunned all over again 😂 Happy New Year 🎉
I'd forgotten a fait bit myself so it was encouraging to put this together just to see what we have managed to get done.
Another brilliant vid
Cheers Tom.
Happy New year Fella, hope you all had a good Christmas & all is well your end?
Looking forward too some new progress videos 👍🏻👏🏼👏🏼
From the Essex Team .
Thankyou kindly, aye, all good here. It's been slow just lately with the weather but progress is being made as you'll see very soon.
Great stuff. Why did you round the slate please?
Some man 💪
Too kind but thankyou so much.

You two have thrived on adversity frim the weather. 👍
You're right there! Even the summer wasn't kind this past year,

Renovation/demolition simultaneously
Aye, no point biting off more than you can chew at any one time eh. Doing it in sections was always going to be the way forward.
I really admire your hard work and dedication to your build but wish you would wear some sturdy footwear rather than those awful crocs! 😂
