How to Jump on Skis | a Beginner Skiers Progression
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 тра 2024
- In this beginner how to ski tutorial, we are going to show you how to jump on skis. Specifically, I teach a beginner skier in front of the camera so you can see some common mistakes and the entire journey Roger went through to learn how to jump on skis. We start the video by having a look at the beginners jumping technique then we go practising popping and timing. Once the technique is improved we start to first jump small park jumps in the beginner park then we move onto the intermediate park where we increase the size of the jumps. The last thing we learn is how to mute grab on skis. If you want to learn more check out our best tutorials and camp over at stompittutorials.com/camps

Very nice all the best
Stomp It Tutorials Dude I used lots of your ski hacks from a different video. They really work, even in Canada! Thanks dude!
Hey, can you put subtitles in spanish please
How can you tell how fast you need to be going for these jumps? the fear kinda gets to me on these jumps and I always end up slowing down too much. But I have no idea how much speed is too much that I fly too far and tumble to my death
hi what is this mountain you re skiing on?
Keep in mind while watching this that a true beginner (not a Swiss guy who grew up skiing and is no stranger to jumping his snowboard) will feel very weird in the air even on the smallest jumps. Your body has a natural tendency to flail for balance which usually ends in a wipeout.
Any tips on keeping balance and control in the air?
Same, would love some tips on how to prevent this.
Yeah I’ve been skiing for a couple years and wanna start doing my fun things. I need tips because I’ve done them but I never look cool lol
Yeah i flail in the air this morning on the park. Massive wipeout
Guys watch the actual video. Said keep legs straight to not be tail heavy, and arms forward for balance. smh
9:05 the guy in the background be like "hey you're filming? okay let me show you how it's done"
That isnt Even hard to do. You just have to do a normal jump and than you spin a little bit
9:07 that carved 180 was so clean!
Buler Edits bro ur right
Dude in the background went so hard for so little recognition 😂
yeah I saw it too. Took all my attention
It was poetic. Author-unknown.
4:22 wth is the guy on the skilift doing
Thats good workout i do that sometimes to warm up :D
Looks like he's holding a handle tow for little kids.
Aéro position to go faster duhh
It's a tow. It's that low.
If you don't know...
The "beginner" that is Swiss and grew up skiing... Riiiight
Well, without knowing how to ski (well) you shouldn't learn jumping on skies lol.
Bro he’s a snowboarder listen to the fuckin dialogue
Beginner in park is essentially what he was implying
@@livingbarret lol calm down sunshine
Beginner to park skiing
More of this guy? Would be sweet to follow his progression
I will tell him to keep snowboarding so we got something to work on for next season :P
@@StompItTutorials wait u guys call skiing snowboarding?
@@aka626 He's saying for him to keep snowboarding so he won't ski so he can help him with stuff that next season because he won't be as good because he would've been snowboarding
I don’t even know why I’m watching this. I live in Western Australia and it doesn’t get any lower than about 15C°
Micah POV lol best comment
Yeah, and these European guys are thinking about Bali when it’s cold there. Just the way the mind is.
Head East over to the Alps! Or NZ, I live in Queensland but still ski lol.
Fly over cuz. You won't regret it 😀
Come to Perisher mate
Insanely talented student, huge respect for this mad lad!
Yes, he was almost too talented. I hoped to show some struggles but I hope it was inspiring anyway to see what you can do if your sporty and unafraid.
9:06 pretty dope trick by the guy in the background
The moustache is looking good 👌
Thanks for noticing, Im working hard on maintaining it ;)
My favourite channel on UA-cam
Same
Yeah Jen’s has a great UA-cam persona and has a very soothing, teacher-like voice. Definitely one of the best channels out there.
I really like the colour grading on your videos. Great tutorial 👍🏼
I agree!
tru
.
amazing video Jens, giving me confidence to increase jump size like Roger in the video. Keep em coming!
You've gotta be the best ski tutorial dude out there. Everything is explained so well, and the clips are easy to follow due to your explanation.
Would love to see progression videos on other basic tricks as well! You learn so much from it🤙
Amazing, I am following all your videos to improve my jumps / freestyle skiing and feel like i've progressed so much already !!! Keep up the good work !!!
Would love to see more of this dude. In one day he learned more on jumps than I did in like two years 😂 Very good progression!
but, was this guy really a beginner? lol!
*Swiss beginner
A FAKE Beginner...
@@christiangonzalez6528
For sure he used to ski.
Blue guy ain't no beginner hahah.
Clearly Fake beginner
Feeling progress watching your videos! Many thanks to you!
Best ski jump tutorial out there, great job bro!
You are the perfect instructor!
After watching allot of tutorials , ive started jumping , and in one month i have achieved , 180 , safety grab, shifty , almost 360 , box slide , shift on box slide (sometimes a double) , and almost a butter! Thanks allot , i will be learning mute grab now. Btw im only 16 :D.
Great work!😅⛷️
Cool story
Nice man where do you ski? I'm 15 and I can do 360s but I can't do boxes well or any grabs
@@jasonmohr I ski in Europe Lithuania , we don't really have big tracks , but we got a snow park so im happy with it.
@@kursiu1 I ski in New Jersey in America and it's tiny here and we never have powder
5:29 sounds like borat lmao
I like your video’s so much! I’m surely going to practise it like he did the next vacation!
Great video, with a good break-down of the progression. As a more-than-decent-skier-who's-always-been-afraid-of-lifting-off I will try some of it, if only timing the pop properly. thank you so much :)
Thanks for another great video m8! This "beginner" rocks on the slope!
Nice video... I like the positive chill and natural vibration from the instructor. congrats to the ability to teach and to learn!
What a good teacher! I like your videos a lot.
This is exactly where I'm at right now so this video was perfect. Realizing I'm mostly only bringing one foot up for my grabs. Something to work on next time! 👍
Best teacher ever.
Nice lesson. Thank you for sharing.
Wow! Did awesome for someone that has only skied a few times. Impressive.
Best skiing tutorials on the Tube.
Cool instruction with focus on the student. Well done.
Would love to see progression videos on other basic tricks as well! You learn so much from it
this beats the hell out of snowboard pro camp, awesome videos man. I showed my GF the one geared toward total beginners, it helped calm her nerves the night before her first day on the slopes with me.
Haha thanks a lot, Alex! :) How did her first day on skis go down?
Excellent effort for a first timer!
I am currently in Laxx and i want to learn som tricks. But after I saw how bad it looks when I jump i started to work just on a good pop. This video helped me a lot. Tanks.
(sorry for my bad englisch)
As a 62 year old who grew up riding skateboards, then dirt bikes, and skiing, I can appreciate the flow and mechanics of doing these tricks. I never was great at doing tricks on skis, although I was good at basic jumping. We didn’t have terrain parks to learn on, so we learned on what ever random jump presented itself. My best trick was a simple helicopter, although I could do a fairly decent back scratcher. (You young folks are probably going: WTF?)
I haven’t skied in thirty years but I’m gonna be going this winter. I’m looking forward to the terrain park so I can dial in some 360s.
Dude if i saw a 62 year old blasting 360s in a ski park i'd be in absolute awe, just make sure you don't hurt yourself!
Man, great video, wish to try is so bad, looking forward your next post
Thank you so much for the video, great as alway. I wish I could ski now but it’s is summer for me so I’m gonna have to come back to your videos at the start of my winter so i can learn heaps in one go
oh yeah yeah

Glad I found this video. I've been blindly testing out little bumps and ramps. Now I have an idea of what I'm actually supposed to be doing 😀
Videos like this help with the hype because I'm hoping to attend next season.
Great stuff! Thanks for the video. Im gonna practice grabs from now on :-)
I absolutely love this channel it has helped me improve my skiing so much thank you!!!
Thank you soo much🎉🤯🌞
this is really helpful, thanks a lot
What a great tutorial!
Damn your ski tutorials are awesome!!! Keep up the good work.
How doesn't he have million subs best channel on UA-cam right now.
Great video and lots of useful tips. Thks
Omg this is going to help me so much!! Thank youuu😄
Incredible how much more elegant a jump looks if you pop right
Such a nice video - love watching - thank you for your guidance - one day I will do one of your camps!
Reading my own comment 3 years later rewatching the video before my next trip... Lol
thank you stomp it tutorials
Cool video, thanks for breaking it down.
Great tutorials!!! Thanx & respect!!!

Nice jumps and nice lesson...
Best video to date!
Awesome coaching, dude. Willing student, too.
Great tutor, thanks a lot!
nice one man... can you do next episode? like 180 some shiftys with this man? he is very nice about the progresion
Thank you, this is a very good tutorial.
Swiss, exited: *"You say so!"*
Him: *"yeah..."* proceeds to talk on ignorant... love it
What?
thanks for sharing this really cool infos !
The "beginners" grab at the last jump was LIT! 😮
I so need a skiing holiday soon.
Hey this is perfect. I just started skiing a month ago, but thankfully I got a season pass so I've gone about 10 times. I've gotten to almost 80km/h (77.6) and feel like I have really good dexterity skiing now, so I think I am going to try hitting the harder stuff, perfect timing! I just tried my first 2 jumps on Friday and actually made my first one ever, it was off of a proper jump too. 2nd jump I probably flew 6 meters and could have landed it, but my arms were too far back. Thanks for all the videos. :D They have helped me progress a lot faster than I would have otherwise.
Yeah ! Thanks ! Very useful video !
Great videos! I'm still learning terrain park but I love it. I just left LAAX yesterday! Is it possible to get a lesson with you if I come back? Also, where did you get your LAAX helmet sticker? I couldn't find one anywhere. Keep up the great videos, thank you!
Very good and usefull video, helpfull to me. Thank you.
The last ski grab was super dope
Please more Video with Roger 🤓
Loved this vid it helped so much
Thanks this is gonna help
Отличное объяснение! Спасибо! 💪😊👍
I learned to jump on skis today
I jumped on a ramp, fell 4 ft, hurt my leg, lost one of my ski and passed out
same bro hit my first one today went waaaaay too fast und immediatly tipped backwards which resulted in me landing on my ass and losing both my skis haha
Sounds like a fun time
Thats fun
@@TheRudian2011 good times
haha same dude think i did something to my knee cap landed and started leaning backwards lol
best tutorials ever
Thats actually pretty sick, makes me feel like I can learn it as well but I only get to skii a week per year or smt
much nice
He is learning very fast!
Hi Stompit!
Great video, I've seen you many times on videos but this was the best one.
I was in the "Fridge" at Hemel Hempstead today and they have a bit of a "roller" in there.
When ever I ski it though I always seem to absorb it rather than get air.
But now I know what to do, thanks to you, and your concise and clear video.
Now where are my boots?
Great to hear that Tony, much appriciated :) /Jens
Your so good to learn ski 👌🤘
Nice vid! Can you maybe do a freeride check list video? that would be cool.
You helped me and my son to hit jumps at snow valley
Awesome video!
Good job man
What was the sound effect at 5:56 all about!? Great video. High quality as always.
I was in Laax yesterday
Best video ever
That guy was fearless!
Thank you ! It,s Super ! ! !
Owesome! Thanks!
Kinda learning myself through trial and error, had a pretty big error last week hahahah hit a couple jumps and landed them no problem, decided to up my speed and get a little more pop, with the extra hangtime my skiis pointed towards the ground and they caught and I face planted pretty hard. Luckily had my helmet on
Can u do a how to rail on thin rails?
I know you’re more of a park guy, but I’d be interested in a mogul how-to if you ever made one. Great vids - keep it up.
Can you please teach me?
Also, please come to Vancouver, Canada!
Good place, good water pressure
Great vid
