    Thanks for the conversation about the tech, people are always chasing the new tech, i´ve learned by working in IT and understanding how the flow goes that you need to be patient and get the best of both price/quality, with the cameras is just does it fits your as a photographer and do you need any more than a phone to do it? nowadays phone cameras are just great and that´s probably the best investment since we use it most of the time daily. I like to do photography with a camera because the joy of it, i makes me want to walk and capture whathever the day brings. Thanks for this!

      Cheers for the comment and yes when you compare specs side to side on so many updates on phones or cameras after 12 months it’s not worth the swap but two years or longer appears to be about right. Yes same here I take lots of photos with my phone many snaps ! But when using a proper camera put more time and care in to the shot.

    Hi Matt, I have only just come across your channel, brilliant !! It’s refreshing to watch someone who calls it as it is. I took up photography again when I retired and my leaving present was a Canon dslr. I have bought some kit from MPB and have been really pleased with it. I use an iPad Pro 12.9 and use a keyboard from ESR which is half the price of the apple product. I am looking forward to going through your videos, keep up the good work.

    Really good video again Matt, I will look at upgrading my camera when I get a little more knowledgeable with photography and can afford it, but right now I'll stick with my canon eos 2000d. I upgrade my phone every 2/3 years and trade in my old one for money just like you do. Phones in this day and age have really good cameras (currently looking at the Xiaomi 14 with its top end Leica camera).

    Greetings from Ireland Matt.. ive been an amateur photographer since early 1970s. Shooting 35mm film with my Canon EOS 650 - then digital arrived on the scene and I traded all my canon gear including a bunch of lenses for my first digital camera Olympus 2020Z and a the time it was £900 (Irish Pounds) a lot of dosh back then.. moved along the years with digital Canon 40d -- then when the Fuji X-Pro 1 came out I had to have it.. loved that camera until the XT-1 came out .. and then the XT2- and the XH-1 as I wanted IBIS for my old Pentax Tacumars .. but strangely I keep my XT-1 and its my go to and only Digital camera -- tempted to get back to XH-1 - but ? With regards too iPhones - I like my Mini 13 BUT that form factor smaller size has been discontinued by apple - so that phone will stay with me until its no longer usable -- thanks Apple but the 15 and 16 models just dont work for me --- apple rant over -- best of luck in your retirement and kinda regards, Paul

      The Fujifilm cameras I have at the moment are XPro2, X100F and XT30 in all honesty if my name was not on the Serial numbers on the Pro2 and X100 I would have upgraded them to the latest versions mainly for the tilting screen and would not have the XT30 but in the long run because they are personalised it’s saved me a fortune ! As for iPhones I use mine to shoot all my UA-cam videos and take photos every day so this October will update to the iPhone 16 ProMax I will be able to trade my 14 ProMax in and buy the 16 for roughly half price with the trade in so it’s no brainer. I love the bigger phones as I put them in QuadLock cases and use them for photography, GPS, Mapping and all the other internet stuff and most of my editing unless it’s really complicated I then move to my iPad. I think Apple do take the piss but it will be interesting the iPhone 16 price as the 15 flopped! So if they want sales they will have to price it right. Thanks for watching and sharing.

      @@MattHart Thanks for the reply Matt - I maybe tempted to upgrade to Iphone 16 next year .. depends on the deal - my mini 13 suits my needs for now -- might consider XH-1 as it has IBIS for my vintage lenses .. and yes I am a big supporter of MPB - peace of mind buying and keeps the circular economy healthy -- regards, Paul

    Interesting video. I'm from a poor family so I'm a miser when it comes to buying anything. My view is that if it isn't generating money somehow, it is costing me money. I usually buy a mid range phone and keep it until it breaks. I buy a top of the range camera and use that until it breaks - my newest camera is thirteen years old. I've got a ton of old lenses but bought them all cheap with a view to selling them for more at a later date. My car is ten years old and I will continue to drive it until it becomes unreliable. I buy everything with cash and I avoid any sort of finance.
    The benefit of all of this is that my wife and I have got a 750k house in a beautiful place and we have money to spare. I know many people that have a higher income than us but are really struggling because they're addicted to buying pointless crap on the drip. It's a trap.
    Edit
    I forgot to add that photography is a hobby for me. I may think differently if it was my job.

My first home burned down and I lost everything and the insurance had run out two weeks before !!! So had to start again my first car I kept for 12 years and most of the things I buy today I buy to last. My home at the moment is just a small house not worth much as we like to travel and explore.

    they offered me £90 for my 1st gen ipad pro. Granted it's very old, but it's in pristine condition and was working perfectly until the last couple of years when it slowed down to a slugs pace, thanks to a their updates. Apple have admitted they purposely throttle older tech so that you a forced to buy again.

    • @MattHart
      @MattHart  5 місяців тому

      Oh they definitely do ! My phones always play up every time a phone is released then a month later it’s fine. My MacBook has served it purpose and if it was a windows laptop it would have died years ago. 9 years of hard work every day until the last two years it’s been worth it and it’s not dead yet but I don’t need anything like that anymore. Just got the new iPad that should last me until I am 70 and doubt I will need one after that ! The trouble with video and photography with these devices is all the apps get better and video and photo processing eats memory ! But I hear these M chips are brilliant so we shall see !

      @@MattHart Agree. I've been using Mac's for about 30 years, since the old beige performa's. Coming from a print and design background, it was the only serious option. Still use Macbooks now, and your experience sounds similar to mine. I tend to get about 10 years out of them before they pack in. And that's ten years of absolutely battering them every day. I've had some that I dont think I ever even switched off. The Macbook I'm using now was a return/refurb from the Apple shop. Was a couple of hundred quid cheaper than brand new. Just couldnt afford a box fresh one.

    I have given chasing pixels in my video/photo gear. Back to the old reliable lines. Upgrade is more than just the camera - now a new lens mount, I have a full set of cinema lenses - excellent images - replace them because of upgrade - hell no. I upgrade my phones more like you on a two - threee year cycle because with my provider plan, they give me a free upgrade. I leaped from an old crapy laptop to a MacBook M1 when they came out. Now I upgraded my iPad from the M1 to M4 - leap in technology for my editing work with the new introduction of AI features and the old one battery was getting iffy. I only upgrade now if it enables me and not chasing the new or improved - etc. I find some of the old sensors are just so lovely and the new ones come from the same source and are all the same and really do not create "the look" I want. Plus what good does 6K, 8K, or 12K or more really achieve? They create their own problems. I relate to your thought process. I have done whole presentations shot on iPhones, edited on my iPad and nobody even suspected it. A good friend of mine says when you buy something new - you get everything but the eye and finger on the record button. :). Some people are artists and some paint by numbers. 😃

      My MBP was a 2015 model fully specked out and was workhorse. I just can’t see me upgrading but I will miss it when it just won’t fire up ! Funny thing is I just opened it to update the firmware on my DJI mics and thought it was about to die ! But it came back to life. I don’t need it for all the crazy stuff I had it for so who knows might get a new one as a treat at 67 with my State Pension !!! I am definitely getting the iPhone 16 ProMax and can’t wait. Love my 14 ProMax but the battery is on 85% now and not getting a new one just this close to the 16 coming out. I do miss my cinema camera for sure but I don’t miss the size and no way will I get a black magic cam lol 😮

    A lot of topics:
    I have an old MacBook Pro the type which had a CD slot :D still works, but it is starting to fray at the edges. One topic you missed, is to make regular (over lapping) back ups of your computer. I have been burgled and losing the tech is one thing, insurance does help cover, however losing the content would have been a disaster.
    I don't tend to buy integrated accessories, so my Apple bluetooth keyboard for my old iPad is the separate aluminium one (don't know the name).
    Using the Adobe cloud options, means access to your photos via any level of computer, iPhone or iPad by using a web browser, or the mobile Apps, normally I'm against the cloudy solution, but this does allow you to become less dependant upon the hardware.
    My previous iPhone was the 11, I only changed it to the 14 because I wanted a treat, the old one has been recycled to my daughter, still on the original battery and going strong.
    I've had every X100 up to the V, and whilst it is 95% of what I want, starting with an OM1n and 50mm, and continuing to think that nifty fifty way, the 35mm equivalent is not my native point of view, and I end up selling the X100 and going back to a interchangeable lens option to get the longer lens. So cameras remain a volatile piece of tech, one day I'll find the answer.

      @@MattHart It never rains does it? It is interesting how we associate memories to some objects, obviously photos are visual and carry very strong association. At some point I off-loaded my records and have no recollection of what I did with them, my CDs I somehow kept and lugged with me from house to house. I have replaced some of the records and the memories/nostalgia came flooding back, and others sound totally different and not at all what I remembered.

    Can't be bothered with tech chasing. I know it won't improve my photography, unless of course I specialised into something that required it.
    My smartphone is nearly 6 years old and still going strong. I use it as part of my workflow, use Snapeed for editing. Of the cameras I use regularly the newest is an X100F (bought full whack with £200 cashback). My XT10 and Xpro2 are ex display, heavily discounted. I only spend on lenses now, love using cheap as chips Chinese lens or adapted vintage manual lenses. I'll replace my cameras as and when they fail.

    • @MattHart
      @MattHart  5 місяців тому +1

      Funny that spending on lenses is knows as investing in glass. I actually sold most of my Fujifilm lenses for more than I brought them for. I had my iPhone 5 until I got my 7plus then did not change phones until the iPhone 12. Funny thing is Apple Px used to be crap but now it quite good. I have the 14 ProMax at the moment and the battery is down to 85% so not to bad. The 16 ProMax might actually be a long term phone. I want USBC and all the bells and whistles of a new iPhone ( changeable battery) I might then keep that for 4 years plus possibly 6 years. We shall see.
