    Nice guide, thanks. Is the bumpy side always the negative? and the positive the one with the writing on the battery?

      In my experience that has always been the case. The positive almost always has a plus sign somewhere on it.

      Let the soldering iron heat all the way before using. Use a wide tip if you have one. Don’t keep it on the pads for too long. Use more flux if you’re having a hard time getting it to melt. Make sure the battery is lined up with + and - You got this!

    Honestly this is the best explanation video I've seen to change a battery for these carts! I was trying to figure out what I'd need but nobody just comes right out and says it or they do the cheap tape method 😂. Thank you! And also can you fit a cr2032 battery in these carts? I know you can't for Gameboy advance and Pokemon yellow.

      I'd recommend sticking with 2025, I've heard the 2032 can be harmful. The risk isn't worth the reward

    Best battery replacement tutorial I've seen so far. Thank you. Would it be possible to replace with a battery holder so that next time one could just pop out a battery and pop in a new one? Is that gameboy cartridge case large enough for that solution?

    • @videogameexpert41
      @videogameexpert41  10 місяців тому +1

      I don’t believe it would be able to fit in the casing unfortunately.

    Can you tell me what piece the white tape is covering? One of my cartridges are missing it and I'm curious as to if that's why it won't save, even after new battery install.

    Can we replace a game’s battery BEFORE it dies to prevent the loss of a save file or will we lose that file as soon as we take out that battery?

    • @videogameexpert41
      @videogameexpert41  10 місяців тому +5

      Very good question! There are two ways I know of that will allow you to keep your save files. One requires you to keep a connection across two points when doing the soldering method. The other is a program for Pc that you can just plug in your game and rip the save file. Then you can re load it once you’ve changed the battery.

    Hey, I did this, followed the instructions, and thought I was successful, but the save file erases as soon as I turn off the system. If I Soft Reset, it's fine... my batteries are registering a charge on my multimeter.... but I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Do you have any thoughts?

    • @videogameexpert41

      It is very possible that there is a break somewhere in the tracing of the board. Although you have a charge on the battery you installed have you tried a different battery?

    • @TaxedoKamen
      @TaxedoKamen 10 місяців тому +1

      I haven’t tried a different battery in this one, but I did it on my Crystal as well, with a separate battery and it has the same issue. The batteries were purchased from Amazon, so I’m going to see if I can get some different ones locally. Is it possible that I frigged up the soldering bad enough to not save?

    • @videogameexpert41
      @videogameexpert41  10 місяців тому +1

      @@TaxedoKamen there’s a small chance that it may have been damaged if the small pad that collects the solder and holds the battery into place has pulled up from the motherboard.
