Everything in Long Ring Long Land is "haha, very cute arc, but there is no way we are actually losing a Strawhat" and then Water 7 starts, punches you in the face and suddenly Robin and Usopp are gone.
People probably already commented but : Usopp sees himself as weak and has abandonment issues from his dad leaving and mom dying. He sees himself as the Merry : easy to discard, even if that's not true !
Only 5 minutes in. What strikes me about you two now is how you guys LIVE these characters, hopping between reacting and actually playing out the dialogue. Great way to empathise with the characters and feel the emotion. Right, this is great, back to the heartbreak….
Ussop when he has that "Batman Prep Time" is super dangerous, his mistake with the Franky Family was he was in his feelings and guilt on losing the money that he rushed into a situation without a plan, otherwise he could have done a lot more damage if he took the time to access the area and numbers.
I love the small detail that in this fight, its the first time we DONT get to hear usopps inner dialogue. We usually hear him talking while fighting saying how scared he is and all that. We now get to see how everyone in the world sees usopp from the outside, and hes kinda fucking scary when he wants to win. I really hope before the end on elbaf they do him justice. He deserves so much more.
ONE PIECE is a story of growth you might not expect it sometimes. you can even see the crew grow physically and mentally they even test out new abilitys sometimes. and this is one of my favorite moments becasue usop is just a human compares to his crew.
Usopp has abandonment issues, first his dad left them and then his mother died when he was a kid. He knows he's not as strong as the rest of the crew or as talented in their respective fields and he thinks he isn't necessary to the group, that's why he tried to do everything the group needed of him even if he was mediocre at it be it repairs or working on new weapons or trying to fish for food etc so when he saw Luffy talk about giving up on the Merry he thought he'd be next, he had a bond with the ship from the start and his recent failure was still fresh in his mind so all the negative thoughts he had came to the surface and things escalated to this fight. I should also point out that this is the first Usopp fight that we don't have access to his internal dialogue so instead of being influenced by him admitting how scared he is or how strong his opponent is we see what his opponents see when they fight Usopp: a skilled resourceful enemy that uses myriads of gadgets, tricks and tactics to exploit your weaknesses and hunt you down.
I’ve been a one piece fanatic for over 2 decades and never once thought about how we never get usopp’s internal dialogue this fight and what that perspective adds. Beautifully articulated! 😮💨🙌🏼
So many people don't rock with usopp here initially, and begin to judge him as a character, but I'm so glad you guys understand usopp's character and his determination. I also fully understood him initially, but i also grew up with a best friend my age who, there were some me days where we just did not see eye to eye and we had to stand on our own hills, but then we learn to accept that and continue being homies, and it seems you two understand that well haha
I've been waiting for thie episode ever since yall did the sanji vs queen followed by zoro vs king.. and when I saw the walk to arlong park I knew I couldn't wait for this saga
whats really crazy is when i hear one piece haters say, there is no character development. BRUH thiis is one of the hardest episodes ever. so freakin good!!! Usopps development, luffy's development the story telling, ugh bruh!!!
The part I hate the most about rewatching this with others is realizing new things. Like what a fucked up way to have to say bye to the Merry. They don't get to say goodbye now, both friends they picked up on Syrup village gone at the same time. No time to truly process her lose, now we have to quickly take our things and leave her. Even Merry must be heart broken watching her crew fight like this because of her. It's like she got rapid and aggressive cancer and her family fell apart trying to figure out the best way to love her. Luffy only changed his mind about her when Iceburg said "let her rest", because even if she was a sentient thing, she fought as hard as she could, she can't keep pushing, her body has been too destroyed to keep going. I bet it was that moment back on Jaya where Bellamys crew ripped her front half off, I don't know how they repaired her after that but there's no way a normal ship could have survived.

I know how this fight goes, and I'm always on the edge of my seat when I rewatch. Sanji's always going to worry about the ladies, and they don't know anything about the guy in the mask, they just know Robin disappeared. But I think he's using his worry about Robin to try to forget about his worry about Usopp.
10:00 "I feel bad now, bro" The comic expectation is broke little by little. Oda:👨🍳🥘 We: 🍽😄😮😦😱😢 17:25 the standing up is 🤌 44:17 At that moment, to lose Robin, Usopp and picturing Franky as strong enemy smashing another crewmember 😮💨
Usopp believed himself useless as he believed he has always been a coward (despite all his past fights) and has seen everyone else get stronger and felt himself left behind. He wants to be in the frontlines like Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji but he just isn't strong enough, he was always in their shadow. Even in Luffy's first bounty picture Usopp was in the back of it behind Luffy. Usopp believes 10000% that Luffy will become king of the pirates and that Luffy is a great man, he just doesn't believe he is worthy enough to be in the crew of the future pirate king, so he holds on to the Merry being his only value left to the crew because he doesn't understand his true value to the crew. He punishes himself for doing all of this by challenging Luffy to a duel he knew he had zero chance of winning. I was an Usopp HATER before this arc, I didn't think he was that deep of a character until this arc and the next. Phenomenal character writing and this is only the beginning of it.
Marv you surprised me, every thing you said from yesterdays vid is EXACTLY what Usopp said today. I knew though that these episodes would hit hard. Usopp crashed out, Robin is gone...what are we going to do? Well i guess you gone have to find out.
- Them fighting one of the 3 admirals and getting pimp slapped - Admiral warning the crew ab Robin's past - Robin missing with the masked dude who said "CP9" - Merry diagnosed with cancer - Luffy deciding to leave Merry for the good his crew - Usopp not giving up on a dying friend like Merry - Usopp not feeling good enough to be on the crew and believing he'll be left behind eventually like Merry - Luffy vs Usopp - Merry crying and the arc's still not over. Water 7 is goated istg
If you looks closely on Usopp, the reason why he’s so mad is because be was clueless about his position here as a crew. Yes we all know Usopp as a sniper but at this time he was always the one who repaired the ship and kept calling himself captain. But to Usopp.. if the crew or Luffy can simply just leave Going Merry (A Friend) away. They can also leave him(Usopp) away as well. That’s what he thought. That’s why Usopp take it very hard. It’s heartbreaking to see our captain for the first time ever cried.. I love One Piece for this. MC doesn’t cry much.. but when they do it’s meaningful enough to let the audience be sad and cry with him. Oda is cooking so much in this arc.
I legit can't believe Marvin got his ass whooped by Luffy and is no longer with the crew 😢😞 literally shaking and crying right now...
Like I’m actually shaking 😩😓
it 3 am right now and you got me in tears im pinning this😂😂
Everything in Long Ring Long Land is "haha, very cute arc, but there is no way we are actually losing a Strawhat" and then Water 7 starts, punches you in the face and suddenly Robin and Usopp are gone.
"Ex One Piece Haters" .............we've come a long way boys. Remeber the days of this title.
People probably already commented but : Usopp sees himself as weak and has abandonment issues from his dad leaving and mom dying. He sees himself as the Merry : easy to discard, even if that's not true !

If only you guys knew what happens in about 30 episodes
they really brought out the "one piece hater" title, that's how you know it's serious
zoro has always been the vice captain imo, first crew mate luffy recruited and is his backbone for times like this. dudes goated
Only 5 minutes in. What strikes me about you two now is how you guys LIVE these characters, hopping between reacting and actually playing out the dialogue. Great way to empathise with the characters and feel the emotion.
Right, this is great, back to the heartbreak….
"idk where to put my hands" "he's in the yamcha pose" xD
"he is donen that N... is in the Yamcha pose" ahahah awesome quote!!!
i love that even though they were arguing, usopp still put respect on luffys name by saying "youre the man who will become the pirate king"
Ussop when he has that "Batman Prep Time" is super dangerous, his mistake with the Franky Family was he was in his feelings and guilt on losing the money that he rushed into a situation without a plan, otherwise he could have done a lot more damage if he took the time to access the area and numbers.

whats really crazy is when i hear one piece haters say, there is no character development. BRUH thiis is one of the hardest episodes ever. so freakin good!!! Usopps development, luffy's development the story telling, ugh bruh!!!

I BEEN WAITINGGG FOR THISSS REACTIONNNNN
I know it’s gonna be goooddd
My dad was in the room when I watched this episode. Even with little context, he could tell this was a heavy show just from this fight.
The part I hate the most about rewatching this with others is realizing new things. Like what a fucked up way to have to say bye to the Merry. zoro has some of the coldest lines in this part, really shows why he's luffy's right hand man and vice captain 😤
I know how this fight goes, and I'm always on the edge of my seat when I rewatch.

They say "EA Sports its in the game". "O.D.A. it's in the BAG". No one cooks like this ever besides oda. Never.
- Them fighting one of the 3 admirals and getting pimp slapped

Watching Luffy cry made me bawl like a baby
