    These are good tips. I use the monthly-income-working-days heuristic too (mine is something like 5k for 7-8 working days a month). Another variable I factor in when deciding pricing is the repeatability of the workshop. If it's something within my basic range of workshops (team liftoff, story mapping, impact mapping) the price will be on the lower side, if they ask me something which is sort of custom but might become repeatable in the future the price raises a bit, if they are asking something that I know for sure I won't be doing ever again the price goes up to the highest side.

    Thanks for making this video.
    I closed my freelance business during COVID (after only a year of freelancing, I know it takes longer to establish), since it became too hard to get clients, and everyone only wanted to do small projects.
    I really tried to build my consulting business around facilitation, but I have to admit I failed HARD. It seemed to me like all my prospects thought they already know what needs to be designed (they did not.) and were only seeking someone to execute on that vision. I did run a Design Sprint for a client (which was a huge success thanks to your masterclass), and a few LDJs, but that was 10% of my work at best.
    I never figured out how to consistently get clients for facilitation, which is more about the Problem area, earlier on in the process before you start designing, that part was always done internally - If you could address that in a future video about finding clients, that would be amazing.
    You guys are awesome, thanks for all your work 😍

    $400 for a day seems low that's about $50/hour, I make close to that as a Senior Consultant. I think at least $80-$100/hour starting out for a day to lead a facilitated workshop seems more in line at least where I live and have colleges who charge $100-$150 as a business coach. I'm definitely confused as I hear varying rates when it comes to coaching & facilitating a session or a day. Thank you!

    I've been working as a product designer for about 7 months and am about to move on to my second company. I also facilitate group sessions where students critique each other's designs for the same bootcamp I graduated from. It pays $40/session (each one is an hour), and I do these 4 hours a week or $640/mo. I thought this side hustle was great until watching this video lol.
    I would love to facilitate larger concepts at a higher rate and more hours, but with my limited experience in design, who would trust me? What could I offer, or what topics could I facilitate? I'm struggling to answer these questions before even attempting to find clientele.

    just to share: I comfortably fit the top 1% facilitator list of qualifications and been workshopping (DT and DS) for 4 years, but I'm only earning $1500 / month.
    quite unfortunate that the role "facilitator" isn't as popular here in the Philippines let alone understand our true value 🥲

      @AJSmart  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Rashi Kasliwal thanks for sharing! Being a UX designer and being a Facilitator are not necessarily mutually exclusive. A lot of people build their facilitation skills on top of their main job, especially in fields like UX design, where facilitation is a very beneficial skill. You could also offer workshop facilitation as one of your services 😉 Good luck Rashi and keep it up!

      I second this. What I wonder is this specific sinario......
      Someone works a full time job, does all they can to get into facilitation and get some experience in it. They would love to use facilitation to help people and make the kind of money mentioned in this video, but.... They work a full time job. Is it just unrealistic to think that someone could do both things in their life??

    I´ve actually never seen the role "Facilitator" been asked anywhere. AFAIK it simply doesn´t exist. But maybe in your yellow world... I guess the 75k guy is Russel Brunson?

    • @AJSmart
      @AJSmart  3 роки тому

      Hey thanks for your comment. Sorry that the video didn’t resonate with you. To address your point, that you personally have never heard of the title Facilitator doesn’t necessarily mean that it doesn’t exist. We have several communities were people are full-time facilitators either as freelancers or as internal facilitators in a company (earning within the ranges mentioned in the video). Their main job is to help companies solve problems and make decisions through workshops. One of the communities is a based around the Design Sprint, a very well-known process/workshop created at Google Ventures, which helps validate ideas and products. The other community has only members who are experienced full-time facilitators, who can facilitate and create any type of workshop (e.g., Strategy Sprint, Leadership Retreats, Marketing Workshops) depending on the situation they’re hired for. But of course not only people from our communities are facilitators. There are people all over the world facilitating workshops based on other methodologies (e.g., the Agile Methodology, Design Thinking) as their main job. In some cases they go by other job titles like Consultant, Trainer, Coach. Hope this was helpful! Have a great day.

    • @IRREGOLARE123
      @IRREGOLARE123 3 роки тому +2

      @@AJSmart Just because one person´s title is "Technoking" it doesn´t mean that job exists. The "Facilitator" as a job simply doesn´t exist. You can have Designers facilitating a workshop, but luring people into believing that they can be hired to "facilitate something", imho is wrong.
      A company doesn´t hire someone to facilitate something, but rather to solve a problem. With which method? Maybe a series of workshops? That can be.
      You guys do a great job in marketing, selling things, but that´s what the game is, selling a course. Congrats on that.
      (75k a day is really ridiculous even simply to mention. If you hire Chris Do, you do it to have him, not to have a "facilitator")

    • @AJSmart
      @AJSmart  3 роки тому

      @@IRREGOLARE123 Yep that indeed can often be the case: where a company hires someone in to solve a problem or help them achieve something, and they use a different term (consultant, strategist, designer, etc) but from our experience, and that of our community, a lot of companies are actually now using the term 'facilitator' too, which we're really excited to see! Thanks for raising this point. If you have any questions, or if you'd like us to send over more information on this then just shoot us an email on support@ajsmart.com and we can help directly.
