Matsusaki Ryokan: Kanazawa, Japan (2-night stay in private hot spring bath)

Ryokans are a Japanese-style inn and often a hot spring resort. More than just a place to sleep, they are an opportunity to experience the traditional Japanese lifestyle and hospitality. After 6 days of heavy touring in Tokyo, I relaxed for two days at the lovely Matsusaki Ryokan in Kanazawa, Japan. My room had a private hot-spring bath and provided breakfast and dinner. There are also public baths in the facility and a pretty park within walking distance.
It was a lovely and quiet setting, perfect for recuperating from the previous travel days, and it was an interesting food experience. All the food was presented in several stages, and was laid out with a beautiful presentation. Each meal was different, some dishes more appealing that others, but it was all an interesting display and excellently prepared.

For senior and solo travelers: If you are interested in a traditional Japanese experience, I would recommend it. I'm not sure it was necessary to go all the way to Kanazawa, but it was certainly nice to have a relaxing break after the hustle and bustle of Tokyo.
