Well done for persevering Gordon, an original saved & as you said a learning curve for you. I did one year in an Agri Fab shop way back in the late 70’s, they had a couple of decent 3 phase Co2 welders there. Upside down inside out, as you didn’t have any slag to control. We used an anti spatter spray directed into the nozzle shroud to help prevent any build up, but kept the side cutters handy to clear it after long runs. Learnt loads there, but the atmosphere was awful, asked me back after 2nd year at college but politely refused.
