@PatriotsToday i said this before I live Josh as our OC if that happens but as someone said dont come in and mess up what Drake knows and that's a West coast offense. Josh don't run that so wouldn't Drake have to relearn a new offense all over again if we go Josh. We could go NC or Tommy Ree(The latter 2 offensive minded West Coast offense ppl. I could see them bring back AVP if it meant consistency but ONLY if we beef up our O-Line by getting Kelvin Banks Jr. or Will Campbell if not get McMillan. Unless we go off script and get Abdul Carter but back to the OC. as much as I LOVE Josh I just think by him not running a WC offense hurts Mayes 2nd yr growth. If Josh can show he won't screw up what maye has accomplished and work off that then hell yeah grab him. Look what he did to Mac 1st yr rookie pro bowler with Josh but shit since (but he was brought up under Josh too there a difference)
I think a very underrated question is the WR coach. Wes Welker was just let go by the Dolphins. Polk and baker could benefit from a real WR coach. He’s coached for SF and followed Mike McDaniel to Miami. Bring in Josh McDaniel and then you word have everything to marry the old with the new.
Listen, Mac Jones's only good season was under Josh McDaniels. He is a great offensive mind and we won't have to worry about him leaving again to pursue a head coaching job. I'm totally in for Josh McDaniels! Not to mention that I loved the way McDaniels schemed up some of those trick plays.
What is similar in Mac Jones’ and Drake Maye’s skill set? I have no preference on McDaniels but please stop bringing up Mac Jones. He ran a pro offense in Alabama, and was plug and play in McDaniels system. Nothing about McDaniels system that he has done in the past fits Drake Maye’s skill set and is actually exactly what Maye really struggles with. Under center, and making line calls - two things Maye has never done/is horrible at. Even Cam Newton had a completely different skill set than Maye. IMO Maye needs to be in shotgun running a west coast system exactly what he was running this year. You can tweak things to help the run game, and the route tree was just not right with AVP, but trying to make Drake Maye Mac Jones, or Tom Brady is exactly what made Josh Allen struggle as a QB, and will severely impact Maye’s growth. I think McDaniels can adapt, but I personally believe he’s just as much of a question mark as any other candidate, because he’s never worked with a QB like Maye, and has never run a system to fit Maye’s skillset. I do like that he will never get another HC job, but I just want to point out the negatives, because people simplify it way too much. Saying he made Mac Jones good is just false. Mac Jones fit his system perfectly, but Drake Maye is like the complete opposite.
@CP-vd4me Josh McDaniels has been a part of all 6 Super Bowls for the Patriots. He has always been great in New England. He lives in Boston, wants to be here and has the experience. I think he can develop Drake Maye. Yes he sucks as a head coach but he's great as an OC. We'll see what happens but I would rather see McDaniels back than anyone
@JasonGage Oh wow, he won Super Bowls with the greatest qb of all time, who ran through the system more than Josh did. So talented. You guys act like McDaniels whole system isn't on the qb reading the defense and making adjustments at the line.
Josh McDaniels should without question be the OC. I think a lot of people are down on him because he didn’t work as a head coach but he’s a elite OC. He is a rare coach who can coach the QB while also being able to game plan and call plays at an elite level. He got the most out of every QB he had even if you exclude Brady (Brady was his best with Josh as well tho) but Jimmy, Mac, brisett, Newton and cassell were all their best with Josh calling playing and running the offense. This is the most no brainer decision of all time.
Rob Gronkowski on Josh McDaniels: “If I'm Mike Vrabel, the first thing I would do is call up and dial up the number of Josh McDaniels-a familiar [face] to #Patriots fans-and hire him as the offensive coordinator as soon as possible.”
WR coach is a big question not many people are asking. At this point it can't be that the Patriots just keep picking the wrong receiver in the draft over and over and over and over. There's got to be some issue in coaching and development that is leading to all these draft busts and lack of production.
Facts.we need a new blood.Like perhaps chip kelly. He Is a seasoned pro with Prolific offensive schemes and years of experience.Although he could be expensive
Honestly, after all this years of losing and not making the Playoffs, do we really need or want to venture outside more? Josh Mcdaniels had success and made Mac Jones look good. Even Gronk praised Mcdaniels… The guy is good, at least it’s someone who we KNOW will bring in some results… Why risk it and test someone new?
@@murillof7337 the one good year with mac jones is a statistical aberration .And The Defense was a really good scoring defense and helped him look good with the running game moving the chains .And his good years with brady were based on brady i say. If Macdaniels Was really good The Offense with the radiers wouldnot have stunk.Atleast he could have come up with designer offensive schemes to elevate the offense.same with the broncos .He had a little bit of success with tibow but he aint no kliff kingsbury or kyle shanhan 😉
I think people are being gun-shy with Josh as OC because they saw BB lose his prowess, so there's this belief that coaching talent has an expiration date. A silly assumption. I do think some mentalities and playbooks can definitely age poorly as the game itself and personnel changes, but let's not pretend JM is suddenly going to go "uhhh durrrrr I don't really know any plays guys, how about uhhhh a hand-off?"
Possible New England Patriots offensive coordinator candidates: Former Patriots OC: Josh McDaniels Rams TE Coach: Nick Caley Former Patriots OC: Alex Van Pelt
AVP has not been fired yet. My hope is they offer and keep him on as QB coach/assistant OC to give Maye some stability. McDaniels makes the most sense for OC as he has had success in the past, is local, and unlikely to be offered another HC position anytime soon. Would definitely though be interested to see who they bring in for interviews for a new up n comer.
McD may be good for QBs, but his scheming and language/terminology are overly complicated and hard for WRs to master. He better have simplified the designs/terminology for wideouts, or find someone else!!
Trent Brown was healthy at LT in 2020. These guys were turnstiles. We gotta lock down a franchise LT and sign or draft some WR talent. Idk if Josh McDaniels necessarily encourages free agents to come here, but he's a decent OC.
Josh McDaniels make plays to players strengths. Brady was a pocket QB he designed plays specifically for Brady and the offense around him he never had a chance to create plays with a dual threat QB that can make all the throws this would most definitely give him more to work with and a different scheme
The missed blocks and dropped passes were a much bigger deal than the scheme. Sometimes the scheme was lame, but it doesn't matter if the quarterback is running for his life every play and the receivers can't catch a cold. I hope whoever they bring in can clean things up.
NC may be more dynamic as far as the offense. McDaniels knows QB mechanics, and so does AVP. Nick C as OC with AVP as QB coach would be a super combo. Otherwise, McDaniel is the best balance.
Mick Caley would provide a unique perspective for OC since he knows the West Coast way of football and might bring some fresh moves to the NE Pats game. But then, Josh has been in the West and can add value since he knows NE and has had a taste of the West! Who knows. Either way, they would both be great options for the OC.
If we go new oc id go josh mccown, dude is in Minnesota and was the high school coach of maye, lets do that. But hey whoever it is they wont have to work on the feet. The only problem with the west coast is the zone blocking. As a unit, it is amazing but its Achilles is that its hard to zero in on the better players. The other problem is in most zone blocking the offensive line is lighter and faster, which sounds good but again vrabel made a point that dline is getting bigger, stronger and faster. Whoever it is, please bring the beef up front and make it the great wall of boston.
It's nice to have new ideas, but they are risk. McDaniels has a proven track record in QB development... If it aint broke don't fix it, Josh Mcdaniels is the only sane choice because he and Vrabel will see eye to eye situationally.
Vrabel should think about a young coach for OC who has aspiration's of becoming a head coach in the future…someone who will give 120%….Josh McDaniels may give 99% but he does not have much to shoot for as far as becoming a HC in the near future…..hard to see him getting a 3rd opportunity from some other organization.
as long as wolf and groh have any say in the upcoming draft means it'll suck.some things never change, but bring back josh mcdaniels unless ben johnson will accept being anOC.
@GeraldGuilfoy Raiders are on the hook for $10 million a year through 2027. My understanding is if Josh gets hired for whatever amount, the Raiders have to pick up the difference.
Yes!!! Call up Megatron and Randy Moss to be WR coach, Gronk leaves Fox to coach TE, Barry Sanders forsakes the Lions to coach the Patriots RBs. Sign em all up.
First off, why the hell is Covington not fired? Is Kraft going to make Vrabel do it because he's afraid to fire two black coaches? As for OC, if you bring Josh back, then just call back every player that's ever been here and give them a job Newsflash: McDaniels had TB. He was awful with Newton, not bad with Jones, but bad in two stints as a HC and neither of those two teams had anything near a decent offense. Its like the guy in KC everyone said was amazing-but had Patrick Maholmes. Just move on FFS

He was coaching with the dolphins? I didn't know that. Kinda a surprise considering they traded him super early into his career
Nothing underrated about pats failure to select, and develop WRs.
Polk and Baker are awful, I said when they were drafted they were wasted picks.
@ the almighty draft wizard Evan. I bet you knew Tom Brady was going to be the goat as well

This is exactly what I have been saying!!! Glad I’m not the only one lol
Mac Jones needed the help and can only accurately throw out to 15 yards. Would've loved a Liam Coen kind of OC who schemes up shots

The nice thing about McDaniels is if it works the likely hood he will be hired anywhere else as a head coach is really low
